  • Very very annoyed that I missed tickets to see him at the Sydney Opera House

  • David Sedaris Is Awesome. So Sharp, Witty And Clever. GO DAVID SEDARIS!!!

    y--

  • Anyone do the 240p joke yet?

  • @Exeron91 no idiot

  • Comment removed

  • The Sedaris family has produced some extremely funny people, and I'm not even counting Dinah the Christmas Whore. David and Amy are amazingly funny. Combined, they probably surpass any sibling comedy duo in recent memory. I miss the old Strangers with Candy days and David's books continue to be outstanding. I'm hoping Amy moves back into the spotlight where she duly belongs.

  • i LOVE him!!

  • The tub was just being an asshole .... haha

  • His writing betrays his sweetness. So very sweet.

  • He looks like Jeremy Brett a lil bit...(The Sherlock Holmes series)

  • What I really love about the Sedaris' is that... they're both funny, both brilliant. But in completely different ways. Amy Sedaris is just such an exuberant, over the top, exploding firecracker of life and just constantly hilarious, to the point that you can barely keep up with her, so much energy. Whereas David is quiet and odd, and considered. They both smile a lot, and both share that knack of saying something hilarious and weird which you only appreciate once the moment has passed. Brilliant

  • When I saw him he told me a dirty joke.

What is the definition of indefinitely?

When my balls hit your ass you'll know that I'm in definitely.

I think he may have thought I was gay. He was the funniest guy I've ever seen.

  • @rrtodd95 That's actually hilarious. Also. You know a joke it truly dirty when it takes you a while to work out who you could actually tell it to. Is he short in person?

  • He gave my daughter a jar of walla walla mustard and told her that he owed her five hours of her life back. It was awesome.

  • He's a Greek genius. Plato with a sense of humour

  • @EffLabels If you like Greece that much we can exchange places!...today!! haha!!

  • @haimstelken I am actually on my way to Greece.(I need sun, sea and good food) I am sick of the rain and people in England

  • @EffLabels But Plato does have a sense of humor, plenty of jokes in the Republic, the Phedo .. (that's all I've read, I'm not that pedantic.)

  • @jerryhello100 I never knew Plato had a sense of humour? I thought that was Aristotle. You see, now I am getting my Greeks mixed up! lol I'll look into Plato anyway, thanks ;)

  • one of my heros!

  • The human form of that wonderful Jellystone Park sidekick, 'Boo Boo'. Just adorable. And funny.

  • He's so adorable.

  • David is so quirky and brilliant. So is his sister, Amy. What a family this must be. Just imagine what their family reunion is like.

  • brilliant man

  • Funny funny man! And absolutely sweet in person :)

  • My god! everytime i read his books i laugh everytime

  • @haimstelken I've learned that I can't read him on airplanes because I get too many angry stares when I start cracking up :)

  • that letterman laugh at 4;20 is pretty rare. Sedaris is a very funny little man

  • Just a lovely awful mix of cynical, tender, awake, patient, neurotic, zen. his observational powers harken to older times, when America was more literate, when intellectuals lived in the shadow of Parisian sophistication and sensual adventure, when Be Bop grabbed us by the lapels, and as a consequence even talk show hosts could reference Faulkner or Joyce; but he is also remarkably contemporary, of this moment, without having seen and heard so much that it stops him from setting it to writing.

  • 3 people started laughing so hard that they missed the like button

  • If there was ever anyone who could replace Andy Rooney...

  • How could anyone be mad at David Sedaris? He's sweeter than a box of puppies.

  • I'm Brazilian. I love the "OMG MOST DANGEROUS PLACE ON EARTH, DON'T DRINK THE WATER!!!"

  • David sedaris is awesome, and he's not just known in the Us, either. My Austrian friend found this book in a bookshop in Vienna and had to immediately buy it, his name on the cover was enough incentive to do so.

  • I'm meeting him in a couple of weeks! I CAN'T WAIT!

  • he is so adorable.

  • I love his sister. She is so funny!

  • what's so bad about letterman in this? i thought he was ok.

  • Letterman is such a punk! Not sure why I don't find this too funny. I was hoping I'd be stifling my chuckles like when I read that book. :\

  • I wanna be a sedaris SO BAD. please? at least 1/16th? I hope I'm invited to a family reunion one day.

  • this guy's a genious. period.

  • @Showaholic and a genius!

  • Tubs: always being assholes.

  • I always have to buy all his books on audiobook for his delivery.

  • Peruvian flute bands ARE everywhere.

  • Engulfed in Flames is absolutely incredible. Finished it two days ago and just started over on it.

  • That's one of my favorite books! :D

  • Love David Sedaris, Letterman is such a moron though

  • I met him at a book signing. He is s good guy.

  • David Sedaris: a prince among men. His story about being alone in his French country house at night, being thrilled he knew the French crossword ( 2.down: "Vagine!!!!!") is one the the most side splitting things you'll ever read. If you don't wet your pants reading it, you're officially dead.

  • I hope we got the book in Belgium :D

  • me too!!! xD

  • Your English seems good enough to download the audiobook version- all his books are available in audiobook online if they don't have the actual book in your region, also Amazon will definitely send his books to all of Europe, since he lives in several European countries himself now :D

  • Oh thanks, well it won't be the first book I read in English. I'll definitely use your information ;)

  • Dress your family in Corduory and Denim is also top notch.

  • @Spoondude I have it on audio book and I listen to it in the car all the time. Rooster At the Hitchin' Post is my favorite!

  • Ahhhh shaddap, nanogod.

  • @nanogod - thanks for your useless analysis, you know what else falls under the "dictatorship of stupidity"? Pretentious and self righteous proclamations from the artistic fringe.

p.s. your youtube page is an unqualified disaster, my eyeballs ache from a brief viewing

  • Nanogod; Past & copy not allowed

  • I love this man. I think "When you are Engulfed in Flames" fell short of a few of his previous books - but few things could be funnier than "Barrel Fever" and "Me Talk Pretty One Day"

  • Ha! I shot the Crane/Stork wedding.

  • laughed my butt off on THAT'S AMORE =D

  • That's the best section! Kind of a disturbing ending though...

  • I must say: "When You Are Engulfed in Flames" is the funniest book I have ever read.

  • "There's a hotel there that smells like chlorine, but they don't have a pool." LOL

  • id only heard of him. i hadnt actually heard him or read anything by him. he is sooooo damn funny.

  • He ist gorgeous.

I think this is his best work

I read that book very slowly because I didn't wanted it to end.

  • such an interesting man

  • lol the sandwich wrappers.... every single chinese restaurant has the same chopsticks and the descriptions are ridiculous. read them next time you get chopsticks just read it... its awesome

  • @Hanke527 lol yeah. They changed it though, unfortunately :( It used to say something like "tuk under turmb and held firmly.."

  • "welcome to chinese restaurant. please enjoy your nice chinese food." bahaha

  • so true

  • I don't care for Letterman or Leno but Sedaris is so much better

  • I adore his work. He is so talented and amazingly funny.

  • it has to be a sin to be this ridiculous, brilliant, and funny

  • OMG! I live in Korea and can totally relate to his experience in Japan, I was crying and laughing through all of it!

  • this guy makes me laugh out loud so much. I love him and his books

  • HAHAH

'When You Check In a Hotel'

    'When You Find a Fire'

'When You Are Engulfed In Flames'

HAHAH best headings for instructions ever

  • I clicked this cuz in the thumbnail it looked like Chris Elliot lol

  • he's so damn funny! i plan on reading all his books

  • i know him , I ate with him yesterday night !

  • WTF WOW! how did you get to do that?

  • Oooo...

  • im straight and i want him inside me

  • my favorite modern author

  • i love him too much.

  • Um have you ever read any of his books? I don't understand how you could say you love him and not know he's gay. It's mentioned all the time in his writing.

  • Hahahaha great comeback. All I did was point out that there's no way you've ever read a David Sedaris book, and you give a poorly written response saying that I'm mean. Except you said that you hope I die, and you never want to see my face again. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but have we ever met in person? How have you ever seen my face? Really great insult, by the way.

  • lol!

  • Well actually I didn't "lol" I snorted.

  • Yes he is gay. He's awesome though.

  • why, can being gay make you 'not awesome'?

  • No no, that's not what I meant. I have many gay and bi friends who are amazing. I didn't mean it that way at all.

  • He doesn't need a disclaimer. He's awesome. Period.

  • "However the tub was just being an asshole and waking us up" ROFL!

  • sedaris is an awesome author

  • This man proves, once again, that being gay is just like being straight...Just a little more fabulous!

  • So glad this guy exists, he's frickin awesome.

  • David has never failed to make my face hurt from laughing. He is a national treasure and I'd blow him for a nickel.

  • Best Comment Ever! You just made my face hurt even more!!!

  • I never laughed so hard as when I first heard him read his story "Jesus Shaves"...it was during public radio pledge drive and I donated just so I could get the CD!!! I agree with shootcocacola73...I'm a straight gal that wishes I could be his gay BF!!! I envy Hugh!!!

  • I love this man! He's hilarious! I wish I was his gay lover.

    Too bad I'm a straight girl -_-

    lol

  • lol

  • I personally think that "When You Are Engulfed in Flames" is his best yet, due in large part to the longer-than-usual essay "The Smoking Section". Master of humor!

  • I dig the fact that he's Greek. His sister, Amy, is also awesome!

  • I have to ask this... which of his books have you read? I'm reviewing Pygmy for a magazine right now and I can objectively say that it is hilarious. Choke is funny. Survivor is dark and satirical. Haunted is darkly funny. Humor is rather subjective anyway... All I'm saying is Sedaris is overrated when it comes to satire.

  • That's your opinion. You're free to say what you think but you can't pass it out as fact.

  • Tell me... how exactly was I passing 'it out as fact,' as you say? An opinion on the merits of a writer can never be fact, so please tell me how I could possibly do that?

  • Sedaris is really a lousy reader. I'm sorry! I have all his books and I read them aloud and people are ROFLAO.

He writes some of the funniest stuff I've ever read. He's absolutely hilarious! But, for some reason, when he appears on the David Letterman Show, he doesn't read the way he writes.

Test it for yourself! Read one of his essays (of course, you might be breaking up during the course of it) then guage your reception against his.

I tell you, he's a better writer than readerl....

  • i listened to an audio version of his book, "me talk pretty one day" in which he reads and it's brilliant. his delivery voice is incredibly funny. i think he may just be nervous reading on national tv here.

  • welll..... screw you

  • Haha... Way to contribute.

  • have you heard/read santaland diaries? if you have, how can you say he's not funny?

  • I have indeed heard/read 'Santaland Diaries.' And it is funny. But, that was one piece almost two decades ago. I'm saying that as a body of work, his satire doesn't rate for me. That's just my opinion. I've already listed those writers and satirists who I believe are superior.

  • I wish there were more writers like him. He's so interesting.

  • I have all of his books- most of them signed by David.

  • You know what I don't like about David Sedaris?

.... nothing. Dude's a hilarious, brilliant, stand up individual and I'm privileged to be familiar with his work.

  • i started this book 4 days ago and Im about done, its sooo funny

  • Comment removed
