Hmm...a question I have: That stoppage of the clock was AWFULLY close to the double 0 showing on the clock. I personally think that the judges should've at least let him try to answer and then check the tapes if he answered correctly at that point. Probably wouldn't have made a difference, and I might not be correct that it wasn't that clear that his stop came after the 00, but do you know why they didn't even make sure? I would've let him try and then review the time if I was the judge.
It's pretty cool that they mentioned u and ur tv station, Mitt! SOTC in my area was on WHO-TV Channel 13 in Des Moines, IA, and it came on at 9 am after the Today show, because I remember my mom taping it for me while I was at school. I was living in the Madrid, IA area at the time, now I live in Perry, IA. Thanx 4 the upload!
I read up on the net somewhere that only one person did achieve that goal, but it seems as if no one has the clip. a rare find. there's a clip somewhere on youtube that someone attempted for the $50k but failed.
mitt do you remember when rani white went all the way on the winners big money game was it really exciting in person as it was on tv and if you have that episode please post it.
Wait a second...I thought that $ale was ALWAYS aired on KPRC, without any preemptions (I live in Houston also, and I remember watching it when I was between 2 and 3 years old).
When did it first get preempted on KPRC, and how long did that last Mitt?
I thought the same thing when I dug up this tape. I wish I could remember the circumstances, because I too recall it was already on Ch2. When I worked for KPRC in 1983 and 84, they were privately owned. I can only guess that might have been when Post Newsweek bought them and they renewed their agreement with NBC, but I don't know.
I don't know for sure what the plans are for Sale and Scrabble, but in my opinion, Fremantle would better serve the shows to make a deal to have the shows streamed over the net than selling them as a DVD set...streaming is the future.
Mitt, that would probably be the wise thing for Fremantle to do at this point, not only for the U.S. Reg Grundy games, but for those outside the U.S. as well.
The winning contestant was in the Stanford band and he was in the way of the Cal team from 11/20/82??? Part of the most memorable college play in history.
The sound quality of this tape is superb. I love the revamped cues of this show and also I noticed, this is one of the rowdiest $otC crowds ever!

Yes. Rani White won the $50,000 - and did so with one second left.

Knowing of the rules of the WBMG, and that only one person took it for $50,000, from your perspective, how crazy was it in the studio that day?

Well, it's a shame your family couldn't see you in Houston until the final season.
BTW, are there any plans for an SOTC or Scrabble DVD set?
