It's certainly true that alot of people on the internet act like assholes. And for many reasons, though my reaction to haters is usually to just ignore them. The main reason is so that they would have done nothing except waste their time typing down a useless comment/message etc. There also is usually no point in paying any attention to them since doing so would satisfy their desire to waste your time. By ignoring you also waste their time because they get no results/ angry replies etc. from you
