I remember during the winter of 1971, while stationed @ Altus, the wind was so strong that it took the drivers door on my 1965 Mercury Comet and blew it back so hard that it hit my left front  tire and wheel well. That's some pretty harsh weather in that part of Ok.Haven't been back since and don't care to either.

They say that an indian drew a circle around Altus a long time ago. Now when theres two storm on both sides of Altus and there's no sign of a storm in town, it's called the Altus Split. It's happened twice already this year.

I remember the tornado that hit Altus AFB at 6:04 PM on Tuesday May 11,1982 that destroyed 1 barracks and damaged 2 C-5 Galaxies.

apparently you've never lived in aluts... everyone and their mother stands outside during tornados and storms to video tape.. i remember countless times that me and my family would stand outside during tornadoes just to videotape and then as soon as it got close we'd run to the shelter. haha.
