I noticed your huge pile of the radish pods there towards the end of the radish segment. Is it possible to pick the pods when theyre about as mature as the ones you show and let them mature on the vine inside? or is it generally better to let them ripen outside?
@MrMyrdok You can pick them and bring them indoors to mature. I would pick the whole stalk and leave the pods on the stalk until they're dry. You shouldn't have any problems with that method.
@ohyeshedid1983 Wait until it dies and starts turning brown. The seeds need to ripen on the plant as much as possible. Be careful when harvesting the dry stems so the seeds don't fall off.
@ally4free1 The pods will form right after the flowers die. The pods take various times to fully develope. Wait until the pods are light yellow and dry before harvest.
Can you make a video about saving spinach lettuce seed ect. There are some videos but they do not show what the plant looks like when it is ready from the garden. Sure would be thankfull. God bless
(By the way: the Corriander/Cilantro Tip: very few know that....)
Couple of questions if I may: I thought "pods" should dry on the plant to ensure better efficiency of the seeds - to mature so to speak. I was told that in reference to Cucumbers, is it? and what about green peas & green (bell) pepper in specific?
Second, can you keep a dry Mango seed for next season?
@hatemtube Ideally they should ripen on the plant. I pick mine when they're fully grown and partially ripe due to early freezes in my northern climate. I let the cukes ripen until the cuke is solid yellow. That's ripe enough. Pea pods should ripen as much as possible on the plant. Peppers absolutely. I have never had luck sprouting peppers seeds that didn't ripen all the way inside the pepper. Mango seeds can be saved for next season if kept dry and cool. Great questions by the way! :)
I would love to be able to grow cilantro, but they don't seem to like hot, humid NC summers. They'll be growing nicely one day then BAM!!! They bolt. Great info!!
isn't it amazing how plants produce seeds? so many different types of seeds and natural methods of distribution of those seeds. it's amazing the way that nature allows for so much opportunity for plants to reproduce. ~Amanda

Did you notice by using the plastic plate, the static makes the chaf stick to it, thus making it easier to clear it from the seed? Cool.
