  • Fully skirted ground effect cars started with the Lotus 78 in 1977 followed by the legendary Lotus 79. The cars in those years still had front wings. By 1982 the cars created so much downforce that on some circuits they had no front wings at all. The wings became mere 'trim tabs' to balance the centre of pressure. The '82 cars are my favourite, particularly the JPS Lotus 91 - minus front wing!

  • This car is a called "Wing Car" with Ground-Effect which makes much downforce therefore no Frontwing!

  • The 82 cars had an aerodynamic underbody, so they didn't need a front wing, this was forbidden in 1983 because the cars became too fast and if the underbody hits the ground you lose the downforce.
