  • While its true that they were German hunting dogs they are known as posh and French because that's what they "became". They are very versatile dogs and the French realized they didn't have to breed the "hunter" out of them in fact it was best to leave them as they were because of their intelligence, loyalty, and personality.

They were actually used in Napoleon's wars to help in various duties, including fighting, and Napoleon's own Standard Poodle was laid to rest next to his grave. <3

  • The "posh" image that surrounds the poodle is a result of their hair cut. The purpose of the poodle cut is to focus hair (and therefore insulation) around the major joints - hips, shoulders, ankles- so that they might be more limber and a moments notice, and also protect those joints from sudden temperature drops when they throw themselves into a pond to retrieve your recently fallen (shot!) fowl. I have had Standard Poodles and Giant Schnauzers my whole life and will continue on!

  • I got a big black standard. He's my bird dog. He's very intelligent and all my friends are eating there words. Very underrated bread

  • @bassmusic3 Im not dissing france.. one of lectures is french and hes awesome.. Im saying most people who dont know about the poodle think that its all posh and fancy because of the fancy looking cuts the french gave them, i mean i know they were useful for hunting etc... its just the view people have on the poodle today :)

  • i have a standard poodle and the breed is more loving and loyal then hunting. my poodle wouldn't harm a soul

  • Ohh geez....at least those ducks got away! My black standard female has given me the great gift of morning doves once or twice. My friends laughed when I got Lucy, saying oh what a sissy dog and such. To all of their surprise Lucy has proven herself very smart and sharp entertaining everyone with tricks I didn't even teach her! The poodle is tops!

  • I agree totally btw. I think all this crap about them being prissy and french is stupid... they were german and they were hunting dogs...well water retrieveing dogs.... the frnch just stole them and made them fancy :@

  • @lyssascreamokid Cause the french are a bunch of pussies

  • @Adam19822000 haha lol, well thats some peoples opinion of them :P

Our best Grouse dog was a toy, She loved to go hunting even when some of the game was bigger than her,My wife is a professional groomer so when I went into hunt camp with Curlly and her painted nails I usually got my own cabin :o) LOL !!
