After one hundred years, evil is made flesh again. An immortal creature of the night, it can take the shape of a wolf, a bat, and fog. Feasting on the blood of young humans, Dracula, lord of darkness, master of the Devil's castle, walks among us.
A long time ago, people lived in peace and harmony. No one noticed the looming shadow among them. The darkness had clouded their senses, and evil ate their souls. Driven by madness they made a pact, with the devil. In the late hour they gathered, to call forth the forces of darkness, with their sinful blood, in their minds expecting the dawn of a new world in chaos.

no, unfortunatly for us. the narration is in german cuz that was the common language of transilvania at the time the games story took place, or thats what they say, anyway.
One of the best Super CD-ROM games to ever grace the system. The game play is amazing, graphics are top notch, and the soundtrack is 2nd only to Dungeon Explorer II on the same system. I spent a good deal of money to get the game, but still got it at a really good price. Any classic TG-16 / PC-Engine Super CD-ROM / Turbo Duo collection is lacking without this title in the library.
We have come here together to call the Forces of the Darkness with our cursed Blood. We want, that they rule the World, and we expect the Falling of the World with a smile.

The SNES Dracula X(known as Dracula XX in Japan) was an alternate version, not a sequal, not a remake, but, a different game, retelling the same story as Rondo of Blood.
That sucks. That was the best part where you see the Vampire Killer zoom across the screen to break a skull and you see the crosses flying in the air and stuff. That was the bomb.
I'm playing The Dracula X Chronicles version of this game, and I'm trying to unlock Symphony of the Night right now, but it's kinda difficult with all the darn enemies coming at me and crap!
I should be able to unlock it after trying more than a few times and practicing along with watching the video that shows me how to unlock Symphony of the Night.
It's alot harder to find nowadays since Konami suddenly did a crackdown on the distribution of the ISO image which makes it alot harder to try and obtain, but you can try the torrent sites that don't require you to sign up for the site in order to download they're torrents.
Definitely the best intro for a Castlevania game. Although, I do like how SOTN starts as well. I can't wait for the PSP remake to see what they do with the intro. I hope they keep it in German.
Also during the time period in Rondo of Blood, Wallachia was the stage of several wars between the Ottomans, Russian empire, and specificly the german speaking Austrian empire. With the land changing hands so much it wouldn't be out of place to have german, turkish, and russian speaking citizens. Oh also the area of Transylvania at the time was mostly under the influance of the austrians as well.
I have a new theroy that may explain the german dialouge. Vlad Tepes like his father Vlad II Dracul was part of the Order of the Dragon. One of the order's big bases of power was in germany so it would be safe to assume that Vlad tepes and those serving under him would know german. Also, his soldiers in the beginning are wearing red which is the primary color of the order as well.
I've got this game -- bought it and a Turbo-Duo many, many years back for a great price. As much as I love the game, I'm considering selling it and the system ... hit me up with a good price and I'll work with you.
Man,how I wonder play this game,i played the Snes remake and I don´t liked it because is too hard(Richter´s jump is terrible),but I sure Rondo of Blood is a great game.
Rofl The Narrator is speaking german! Nice, so I could undeerstand the Story of this Game without Problems although he sounds like someone had pushed a stick into his *ss XD
any castlevania fan would be proud of owning this piece of relic.... *sigh* by the time I have my own money to hunt this game down, the price would've been gone through the roof :(
A hundred years had past, and he was resurrected. Able to become bat, wolf, or mist at will, he lived in the night. He drank the blood of young maidens and lived an eternal life. The lord of Demon Castle, the god of evil, Count Dracula was reborn.
In the days of old, the people thrived on peace and prosperity. Indeed, fears of unrest were not among their thoughts...
Everpresent, however, is the underside of tranquility, evil. Evil, which spurns prosperity and disdains peace.
Gather they did, those who wished to summon the powers of darkness and cleanse the decadence of the world. And, with smiling countenance, they anxiously awaited the coming of their era...
I don't know German nor Japanese, but I think it's pretty obvious that what's happening in the intro, is that the German speaking guys need to sacrifice the girl, in order to bring back Dracula.
No. It uses similar graphics and the same main character, but the two games themselves are vastly different in design. The SNES game is severely watered down.
I think it's because at the time, the style was well recieved as a fitting new addition, but after becoming used to Ayami Kojima's excellent Romanesque style, it took away the depth of the characters with rather generic character designs in contrast.
You've gotta admit, everyone except Mina could've done without the style change for Dawn of Sorrow.
Well, I guess I agree on that point. I really did love Ayami Kojima's art, but the new style change didn't really affect the game in any way, for me at least.
Whenever I play Dawn of Sorrow or look at Portrait of Ruin, I notice that the games are a lot more colorful, and the stories are more "kid friendly" than the games where Ayami Kojima is the artist... just an observation.
The issue is that the audience for Castlevania games is shrinking. In spite of their generally consistent quality, it's not attracting any new fans. IGA's explanation for the new art style is that precise issue. It was primarily a matter of "draw in new fans or the series dies." Much as most anime tends to suck, I'd rather see it continue than die out.
Yep. Maybe they thought it would sound more "authentic," but I'm betting they just liked it. I don't think Vlad Tepes actually spoke German, anyway (though I could be wrong)...
I thought Vlad was a Romanian nobleman who was "crusading" against the Turks with a penchant for doing impalements. And then that little problem with Lise getting killed and stuff led to him being Drac.
Eh, the real origins of the Dracula myth are pretty hazy. IGA rewrote a lot of the Castlevania backstory with a few retcons and the story of Lament of Innocence, anyway.
He retconned Circle of the Moon for GBA, Castlevania Legends for GB (or whatever the one with Sonia Belmont is called) and both N64 games out of the timeline. That is official.
In Dracula X Chi no Rondo, (before IGA joined the CV team) it was said in it's game manual for time period (the 18th Century) that Dracula was over approximately 800 years old... so IGA created a new origin based on that information. The Bram Stoker novel may have very little to do with the timeline after-all.
"In Dracula X Chi no Rondo, (before IGA joined the CV team)". Hold up, are you saying that IGA didn't participate in Chi no Rondo? Because he's given homage in the credits to this game.
Jonathan Harker spoke German to the local townspeople in the novel, asking them about Dracula. Maybe it was just easier to go from there, rather than find someone who spoke the old Wallachian language.
It's not all THAT hard to get ahold of (legitimately or otherwise). It's high-profile, but it's not the rarest or most expensive PC Engine game, by any means. That dubious honor goes to Ginga Fukei Densetsu Sapphire (Galaxy Policewoman Legend Sapphire), an Arcade Card-based shmup.
I keep meaning to get screenshots together... what's neat is that the layout of some of the stages was carried over to Symphony. Ie. the opening level and the room where you fight the Werewolf boss is the same as where Alucard meets Death and has his equipment taken away, and the clock tower is set up very similarly.
How good is this game compared to Symphony or Castlevania 4?

Houminid 4 years ago
um there is a torrent somewhere that say castelvania collection it have all even the soundtrack, and have this game and the emulator.
I dont know try torrent sites and put castlevania collections.
Vampire8887 4 years ago
It's alot harder to find nowadays since Konami suddenly did a crackdown on the distribution of the ISO image which makes it alot harder to try and obtain, but you can try the torrent sites that don't require you to sign up for the site in order to download they're torrents.
BigBoss023 4 years ago
i have the win32 compiled version, no emulators or .iso's necessary. pm me if you're interested.

Definitely the best intro for a Castlevania game. Although, I do like how SOTN starts as well. I can't wait for the PSP remake to see what they do with the intro. I hope they keep it in German.
chalavet 4 years ago
Also during the time period in Rondo of Blood, Wallachia was the stage of several wars between the Ottomans, Russian empire, and specificly the german speaking Austrian empire. With the land changing hands so much it wouldn't be out of place to have german, turkish, and russian speaking citizens. Oh also the area of Transylvania at the time was mostly under the influance of the austrians as well.
LordBrimstone1 4 years ago
I have a new theroy that may explain the german dialouge. Vlad Tepes like his father Vlad II Dracul was part of the Order of the Dragon. One of the order's big bases of power was in germany so it would be safe to assume that Vlad tepes and those serving under him would know german. Also, his soldiers in the beginning are wearing red which is the primary color of the order as well.

BEST CASTLEVANIA INTRO EVER!!!!!!!!

Funny how it's considered some rare, "holy-grail", when it's actually pretty easy to find in Japan. Not really rare at all.

Not all of us are willing to go to another country for a video game. Most people are just waiting for the PSP remake and port. (Dracula X Chronicles)

The lord of Demon Castle, the god of evil, Count Dracula was reborn.
xXbelmontXx 5 years ago
Close. But not exact. slurp not drank, although that sounds more silly in english than it sounds in german :-)

It's for PC Engine, therefor "Push RUN Button" makes sense.

and before you, the last masculine hero in a castlevania game, staring from simphony of the night all they look like girls. how sad.
zeth51 5 years ago
I don't know German nor Japanese, but I think it's pretty obvious that what's happening in the intro, is that the German speaking guys need to sacrifice the girl, in order to bring back Dracula.
Ryuseikun 5 years ago
i got this game....its for snes too...but is it the same as this one??
JuliusBelmont 5 years ago
No. It uses similar graphics and the same main character, but the two games themselves are vastly different in design. The SNES game is severely watered down.
MoriyaMug 5 years ago
Richter looks kinda like Ryu from SFA.

those guys just killed the girl, that was so rude.. twas tragic

She was a sacrifice, so she most likely gave her life. She did not scream or struggle prior, nor does it look like she was bound down.

thats a good ass game i think the coolest part is when you have that little mini fight with death on the horse carrage.

I don't see why everyone is complaining about the "anime" style of the new castlevanias coming out. It's not like it's new to the series.
TotoroTheTororo 5 years ago
I think it's because at the time, the style was well recieved as a fitting new addition, but after becoming used to Ayami Kojima's excellent Romanesque style, it took away the depth of the characters with rather generic character designs in contrast.
You've gotta admit, everyone except Mina could've done without the style change for Dawn of Sorrow.
soliloquial 5 years ago
Well, I guess I agree on that point. I really did love Ayami Kojima's art, but the new style change didn't really affect the game in any way, for me at least.
TotoroTheTororo 5 years ago
Oh, no no no. The game is fine. The character designs just should've stuck which most people agree with, that's the only thing.
soliloquial 5 years ago
Whenever I play Dawn of Sorrow or look at Portrait of Ruin, I notice that the games are a lot more colorful, and the stories are more "kid friendly" than the games where Ayami Kojima is the artist... just an observation.
AlucardsQuest 5 years ago
I like the anime style of Rondo,
but not that of Castlevania for DS.
Why?
Because the heroes are little kids in Castlevania for DS!
Having kids as the main characters takes away the serious atmosphere from the series.
Castlevania isn't supposed to be a kid friendly game like Mario or Sonic the hedgehog.
It's supposed to be dark and heroic.
Unlike Castlevania for DS, Rondo has a full grown hero, and thus carries on the tradition of the old series.
bigolebadassbob 5 years ago
The issue is that the audience for Castlevania games is shrinking. In spite of their generally consistent quality, it's not attracting any new fans. IGA's explanation for the new art style is that precise issue. It was primarily a matter of "draw in new fans or the series dies." Much as most anime tends to suck, I'd rather see it continue than die out.
MoriyaMug 5 years ago
Ah... Maria wasn't a kid?
SirJanyse 5 years ago
Well, Maria was an alternative character for those who couldn't beat the game with Richter, so she isn't really the main character of Rondo.
The hero of that game is Richter.
bigolebadassbob 5 years ago
... the entire intro is in German?
KingKazul400 5 years ago
Yep. Maybe they thought it would sound more "authentic," but I'm betting they just liked it. I don't think Vlad Tepes actually spoke German, anyway (though I could be wrong)...
MoriyaMug 5 years ago
I thought Vlad was a Romanian nobleman who was "crusading" against the Turks with a penchant for doing impalements. And then that little problem with Lise getting killed and stuff led to him being Drac.
KingKazul400 5 years ago
Eh, the real origins of the Dracula myth are pretty hazy. IGA rewrote a lot of the Castlevania backstory with a few retcons and the story of Lament of Innocence, anyway.
MoriyaMug 5 years ago
IGA didn't rewrite anything, he only added to the story set forth in the original Japanese game manuals and other official and original sources.
AlucardsQuest 5 years ago
He retconned Circle of the Moon for GBA, Castlevania Legends for GB (or whatever the one with Sonia Belmont is called) and both N64 games out of the timeline. That is official.
MoriyaMug 5 years ago
In Dracula X Chi no Rondo, (before IGA joined the CV team) it was said in it's game manual for time period (the 18th Century) that Dracula was over approximately 800 years old... so IGA created a new origin based on that information. The Bram Stoker novel may have very little to do with the timeline after-all.
AlucardsQuest 5 years ago
"In Dracula X Chi no Rondo, (before IGA joined the CV team)". Hold up, are you saying that IGA didn't participate in Chi no Rondo? Because he's given homage in the credits to this game.
soliloquial 5 years ago
Jonathan Harker spoke German to the local townspeople in the novel, asking them about Dracula. Maybe it was just easier to go from there, rather than find someone who spoke the old Wallachian language.

I miss this game..
DigiHatesMakingNames 5 years ago
You had this at one point? How did you get your copy?
Nintega 5 years ago
It's not all THAT hard to get ahold of (legitimately or otherwise). It's high-profile, but it's not the rarest or most expensive PC Engine game, by any means. That dubious honor goes to Ginga Fukei Densetsu Sapphire (Galaxy Policewoman Legend Sapphire), an Arcade Card-based shmup.

I... want... this... GAME!!!!!! XO;;
CyberDragon10K 5 years ago
I keep meaning to get screenshots together... what's neat is that the layout of some of the stages was carried over to Symphony. Ie. the opening level and the room where you fight the Werewolf boss is the same as where Alucard meets Death and has his equipment taken away, and the clock tower is set up very similarly.
MoriyaMug 5 years ago
Yeah I just noticed that on this video.
