We had emotionally invested into those characters. I was there when Snake told Meryl that he wasn't interested in other peoples lives and now he was holding her still body begging for forgiveness. “Meryl can't forgive anyone anymore..." and it was my fault. I failed to press the X button repeatedly and now Meryl was dead. Great game.

@EmirhanMW2 If you gave in to Ocelot's torture, after you defeat Liquid you find out Meryl is dead. Snake asks Meryl to forgive him and Otacon walks up behind Snake at tells him the Meryl can't forgive anyone. Search "Snake Beats Liquid (Meryl dies)" and you'll see.

Along with those well chosen pictures this song reminds me so much of Sniper Wolf's death. She is one of the few video game characters I'll never be able to forget. Her death scene, upon defeating her in the epic sniper duel, is the one and only occasion a video game managed to make me cry. Ever. Wolf is my favourite mini-boss character in any game...

This song and the cinematics that it played over still rate amongst the best in video game history. I've played a lot of games since MGS, and yet somehow this song still stirs me in odd ways many years after the fact...

I don't picture Shadow Moses when I imagine it, actually. I imagine Aoife and her Gaelic folk band in some pub in County Donegal, surrounded by warmth and friends and the fields of heather. Gaelic folk music is incredible.
