  • Wow, this video is a pixel

  • So Real won this semi, Villa won the cup final...yet this man utd team was the best ever? Too much hype and not enough objectivity. This was a very good man utd team BUT they were not a great team. (Today's Barcelona is a great team, for example.) You have to win prizes. I would compare this 1957 man utd team to the ipswich town of the late 1970's, early 1980's. Young, exciting, breath-taking on their day, but not truly great.

  • @mark57153 The average age of their team was 23...Duncan Edwards was 20 by then, and when he was 21 (the year he died) he was ranked as 2th best player in Europe. So yes it was a very good team, but you are right they were never the best.

  • @Da40cal yea madrid were the best and edwards is a legend

  • @mark57153 I don't think they ever had the chance to be truly great, such is the tragedy of the air disaster. Had they lived there is no doubt they would have won more.

  • @mark57153 since when did loosing a cup final not make you a great team this team only had like 3 years together in the first team they won 2 league titles

  • official "champions league" didnt exist before 1992.

before that year, was a "friendly training cup", so all teams that won before 1992 dont have any value (well, the same if i win a match with my friends)

    so fuck real mandril

  • @bakalagz then deducted manchester won the trophy in 1968 ahh, the champions has had several names since European Cup, European Champions Cup and UEFA Champions League so that they all have value, not vanga me with that are not worth it because are equal.

  • i uploaded a full match of the babes check it out

  • man u/fa gloryhunters take note, this Real side who won 5 European cups in a row is the best club side ever,Liverpool of the 70s/80s second with Gullitt's Milan.Real achieved great success more recently when they won 3 CLs in 4 years,98,2000,2002.Don't ever believe the claptrap that emnates from man u/fa lips,it's all distorted, unfettered bitterness and antagonism towards any club who has won much more than man u/fa.They attack, the TYPICAL GERMANS,Liverpool,Milan.Other teams spent much in the 50s

  • lol at real madrid players even at 1957 were divers

  • if only Busby Babes survive, Liverpool would not have 18 English top flight titles, it would be Manchester United...

well, what done is done, we will get our 19th title this season.

  • @timmyfung01

that's stpid answer it's like saying if Arsenal have players fit every season we will win every title .lol No excuse. what happen it happen because everything had it reason.

  • @timmyfung01 It's really a shame that these young players passed away so early in their careers T T. They definitely were set out to accomplish great things.. but their spirit is very much alive today in our squad :D

  • @dockcha

Amen to that, and let's hope United will beat Arsenal and Chelsea and secure the PL title.

I don't want to wait until the last game of the season to win the title, let's finish this when we can.

  • Aston Villa beat them in that year's Cup Final...

Real Madrid beat them in Europe...

Manchester were very good BUT not great. Only the British media hypes them up and calls them great.

  • @thedoc241000 this post makes no sence since when were teams judged on 2 games remind me who won the league title in england that season man utd played villa and real madrid. madrid were the best team in the world. so now your telling me that 42 league games back then mean nothing interms of how good your team is and that if you happen to get put out 2 cups then your overated.

do you even know the facts of things that go against them vs villa i suggest you look it up

  • @thedoc241000 utd won the league in 55/56 and in 56/57 there first season in europe was 56/57 which was when madrid put them out in the semi's they got beat in the fa cup final that season to i seen it on dvd the goals were unstopple also utd played most of the game for 10 men and with 3 players out of postion they had won the league by april that year. also in 57/58 they got to the semi's of the european cup again but 8 players had died by then

  • @thedoc241000 but what the hell lets do what you your doing and forgetting there talent and sucess over many games that made them a great team your post is so wrong if they were overrated as a team its not for the reason you said and there sucess is fact.

by your logic then were real madrid over rated because they finally lost in europe and could not make it 6 european cups in a row.

  • Hala Madrid. The Best Club in the world jajajajajajaja.

  • goal at 0:46...wow! what a beauty! Kaka would have been proud of that pass...

  • Utd wud've won in the years ahead many times the euro cup, even di stefano addressed tommy taylor as 'el magnifico' with edwards an co,hard not to see why

  • Im not saying that United would have dominated Madrid if they didnt die. But there would be some memorable battles between them! Charlton said that edwards was the only person who ever made him feel inferior.

  • @mully133 Since this match was held in 1957, i believe Sir Duncan Edwards played in this match too?

  • its like an episode of warner bros

  • Hmm, yes Manu with edwards might have been diff... however i still think this Madrid side would of been too good for them, they have the best players in the world.

  • @dem1991boy5 madrid was coming to the end of there time that great team in the late 50s

  • that bit at the end was hilarious!!! we try to take the player off and Real try to bring him back on..lol

  • Vamos a ver Ingleses.

  • Chavmanx, "Man U weren`t that good in 1958". Oh please get your facts right ! United were in fact VERY good...they had perhaps the best Youth team in the world, a very strong Reserve team who fought like brave lions after the disaster when forced prematurely into the 1st team and battled all the way to Wembley sweeping all aside and in both 1957 and `58 the double League Champions attempted two Trebles only to be halted at Munich. They were actually feared and respected throughout the world !

  • BTW Charlton has played alonside George Best, has played aginst Di Stefano, Eusebio, Pele and Cruyff etc. and his famous quote was sying"Edwards was the best player i WILL ever see", not have ever seen. MADRID fans need to get off their high horse and except that Charlton meant that if Edwards (who was already better than Di stefano) hadnt lost his life at 21 he wudve gone to become 1 of the greatest ever and hadnt it been for Munich, in the 60s d team wud have the babes and the trinity.

    CLEAR

  • actually

Charlton said that about Edwards the best ever see

    because edwards is english haha

  • yi edwarss is the best ever but di stefano is a legend to.

  • u man u fans do annoy be with their blind ignorance towards this. all it takes is a bit of education.

  • Okay neither of us i assume saw how great this team was but how are we blindly ignorant? its natural for us to feel robbed. All i wanted was some repect and misperceived u as a pompest real madrid fan leaving a stupid condescending remark as if Busby babes just wudnt win anything. Now that i withdraw my "ignorant tool comments", its still clear that if they reached their prime we wud have more than 3 european cups by now and U still cant say that they werent good either man, thats uncool. ciao

  • If it only it wasnt for munich we might be sayin. Hu d fuck is real madrid?? now

  • munich was in 1958, and man u weren't that good, rose tinted spectacles and all that.

  • U ignorant tool. I assume ur a Real Madrid supporter. This was a team with an average age of 22 and was cut down before their prime now so dont get me started. And comparing United to King of pop and rock is cos were kings of soccer, woohoo!!!

  • Spot on!

  • Your an ignorant tool, i'm actually English dick head, what does race have to do with it, you fucking NF cunt. Anyway the point is that when people die they are inflated above what they were, they were good no doubt, but they were by no means as great as everyoen says, And as you have no video evidence and are basing your opinion on hear say why should anyone believe you. TY

  • they were miles better than the great team what won the european cup 10 years later with charlton best and law

duncan edwards tommy taylor absolute legends

  • Al it takes is a bit of education. Check the papers from Ireland to Germany before Munich happened. The young United side led by Duncan Edwards were being hailed as the team to knock of Madrid in 1958 and bring the European Cup to England.

  • Maybe the fact they had won the league 2 years running and had been done out of a double by a decision which wouldn't stand now suggests they were good.

If you need video evidence then you would have to rule out players like di Stefano, Puskas, Garrinchia, Didi, Vava and many others who we don't have loads of vidoes of .

And if you DON'T have video of them you can hardly say they WEREN'T that good as you have nothing to base the statement on. You are the ignorant cunt.

  • Why would I need video evidence? Real Madrid proved their quality, I never said man u weren't a good team, but winning the English league 2 years running doesn't mean they would've won the European cup, that's what unfortunately you Mr Ignorant can't get your head round. Anyway I'm done with this. People still replying with nonsense 3 months on. All of you need to take your rose tinted specs of and ask yourself is nostalgia clouding the truth.

    au revior

  • REAL MADRID WON!!! GO REALLLLL

  • this was FOOTBALL

  • Maybe now Real Madrid can shut up English ''mouths'' again now they are trying to buy the European Cup again, maybe they need to buy a decent defender (or four) first - its alright scoring 6 but no good if the other team scores 7.

  • We shut english mouths in this eliminatory. English papers in 1957 said: "manchester will tharsh madrid", and we saw later: real madrid won with an aggregate of 5-3

  • european cup games where played at maine road i cant remember why now think it was due to floodlights

  • i was because of floodlights i think they also played there league games there i think the babes only played 2 season at old trafford.

  • Thanks for the vid, it was a great semi-final. The match is the second leg, in Old Trafford (with an atendace of 65,000). Real Madrid won 3-1 in Madrid, and the next month won the final against Fiorentina playing in Santiago Bernabeu with an attendance of 120,000 fans.

  • It was a Old Trafford in the 50's???

  • real was simply unbeatable, everybody must admit that. of course munich was a catastrophe, but this manchester wouldn´t come close to this real madrid not even in the next decade. but they probaply had won a few trophies in england

  • munich destroyed everything. RIP BUSBY BABES

  • @manctilldead i know that was a shame madrid were the kings of football and utd were the up and coming force back then.

madrid had di stefano and pukas the finshed articals great players and united had footballs rising star the allrounder in duncan edwards

  • @thetoon99 your a real football fan mate. up the toon

  • We would have beat you for the next 15 years if it weren't for Munich.

We certaily had as good, if not a better team than you, even the Spaniards believed it in 1958

  • nope. di stefano and gento were unreachable.

  • Except di stefano said that our best player duncan edwards was the most talented player he had ever played with.

Add englands top striker tommy taylor, bobby charlton, and george best and denis law coming later, puskas and di stefano would be humbled

  • Funny that. Bobby Charlton has said in numerous times that Di Stefano was the best player he's ever seen.

  • Then explain these quotes about Edwards. "I totally believe he was the best player I ever saw or am likely to see," said Charlton having played alongside Edwards. "He was the only person I felt intimidated by. I was never going to be as good as him." Contemporaries of Edwards have been unstinting in their praise of his abilities. Charlton described him as "the only player that made me feel inferior, the biggest single tragedy ever to happen to Manchester United and English football" Case Closed!

  • yes but real was the team who won this eliminatory, not man united. so real was better ;)

  • Yeah, but we were young and inexperienced. The next year, after letting our young Babes grow and after getting a feel for the competition, consensus is that we wold have won if it weren't for Munich

  • hahaha Its very funny to see a person who invents "there's an hyphotesis of man united winning european cup the next year, because everybody has consensued that" man, real madrid was the better team of the early years of the european cup, It was unreachable, not only di stefano, also gento, puskas, kopa and rial. 5 european cups in a row man!!! and a football style that impressed the world!!!

  • Haha its very funny to see a person who's making statements without having any idea what he's talking about. It's not inveted, go do some research on what English, French, Spanish, Italian, etc. commentators and newspapers say in 1958. Manchester United would have won many of the cups real won. edwards, taylor, charlton, pegg etc. if Munich hadn't happen, it would be a different story

  • If munich hadn't happen, real would have won, because of the simple fact that players like di stefano, kopa, puskas or gento were world stars, and players like pegg taylor or edwars weren't.

  • I would disagree. Edwards was a massive star in Europe and became a star everywhere United traveled. Every boy from Dublin to Copenhagen loved him. Tommy Taylor was the #1 striker on one of the most revered national teams in the world, England. Inter Milan offered a world record fee for him. We had a budding Bobby Charlton, one of the best ever. We had the most expensive keeper at the time Harry Gregg, best goalie of 58 World Cup

    Edwards-Di Stefano

    Taylor-Puskas

    Charlton-Kopa

    Gregg-Gento

  • don't please, disasters make us think better of the dead, happened to elvis, happened to wacko, happened to united.

  • I cannot explain those quotes :) I think it's absurd to treat this as a competition. I wouldn't ask you to explain these other answers,

Who would you have liked to play alongside?

Alfredo Di Stefano. I think he was just the most amazingly talented player. I was very lucky because I got to play with Denis Law and George Best.

  • Who was the best player you ever saw?

Alfredo Di Stefano. But there were so many players who were good for different reasons. Pelé. At speed, Diego Maradona was just so dangerous. Franz Beckenbauer.

  • And then, you are quickly dismissing Di Stefano apart from players such as Puskas, Koppa, Rial and Gento!

  • Who would you like to play alongside? He played alongside Edwards, never Di Stefano, so that is a fair answer. As far as the second question, he probably was talking about his competition, not his teammates. We need to see the quotes in context, what's your source?

  • It's a fair answer but note that he says "he was just the most amazingly player".

The second question is a straight one with no context involved. Di Stefano, Pele, Maradona and Beckenbauer were the best he saw.

  • My source is quite easy to find in google and for some reason I cannot paste the link here.

You will see there is no context that might change the perception of his quite clear answers

  • I think i have it. Charlton could not compare with Edwards because he was good at everything, no faults in his game. Di Stefano was the best in the world at certain skills like passing and finishing and had great intelligence and leadership. He says no once hes seen can compare to Edwards. Its exceptional at some things vs great at everything. At least he can compare with Di Stefano, only Edwards made him inferior. He was complete

  • I wonder why many of 'R. Madrid vs ManU'vids are disapearing fast.

  • HALA MADRID!!!

  • What's with all these gloating Madristas? Pay some damn respect. This team of kids (the team you just saw had an average age of 21!) was decimated one year later at Munich. Go gloat somewhere else.

  • Real Madrid WON :D

  • The Babes were good but not really at the races against Real.

  • Real Madrid Simply The Best

  • Excellent!! and glorious days, football at it's best.

  • Mundial 1957! Vasco da Gama(Brazil)4x3 Real Madrid! ;)

  • you are lying, madrid won that mundial

  • The only reason Real Madrid even got into the European Cup in the 50s was because Franco prevented clubs such as Barcelona from signing players.

    Onelove.

  • yeah yeah sure thats why franco built you, cules of shit, the fucking camp nou

  • And bankrolled Real! Correct! Still history is history and they were the best team at that time, but it's a case of the original ambramovic back then...but also what may or maynot have become of United.

  • Real Madrid a class above anything in England, football versus brute force.

  • glory man united!

  • Thanks to the english for the 1957 quality video, but thanks to us for the quality football, Real Madrid.

  • as you can see who says the british are blondes???

  • qfwes, es la semifinal de la copa de europa de la temporada 56-57. La segunda de las 5 consecutivas que gano el madrid.

  • madrid!! madrid! dun dun dun

  • Whrere´s the match??

  • Old Trafford

  • Good man Ray Wood, bursting that madrid fella was class!!!!

  • Glory Glory MAn U!!!!

    Damn Galacticos suck.

  • The best team in the history, distefano, gento, puskas, kopa, mistic!!!

  • Puskas was still playing for honved at this time, he didn't sign for madrid until late 1958 at the grand old age of 31, amazing how he played 8 years there
