  • This reminds me of Jim Carrey. LOL

  • best part 2:10 to 2:25

  • Undoubtably written about Kerry Dincsoy

  • <3

  • That What Is Not is not their best record, and it's probably good they bowed out right afterwards. Cruel and Acid Drops and God are good but the rest of the record is crap.

  • I was talking about this song specifically, and further more Love Hope and Covered are also very good like Cruel and Acid Drops. Lucks Up is only marginal. I agree the rest isn't very good. You really can't compare PACO PIL to the other PIL groups work either, the only constant member being Lydon, the music changed as the band did, but hey that's just me.

  • All being taken into account I would have to say this is John Lydon's best work, but that just might be me.

  • @deaddogcanyon - Agreed, this album was brilliant - but its hard to compare PIL's work past and present because its all so different. Some PIL albums do some things better... as a body of work though, it is brilliant.

  • Friggin cruel...

  • John looked hot in this video! Wow!

  • Great visuals...too bad about the sound 'glitches'...

  • He looked incredibly healthy in this vid

  • the clip is playing back glitchy on my computer :(

  • Aw, jonh and the teddy, :D

  • Dont want to ruin it, but PIL are one of my favourite bands, but at this point in their career, they just became awful I think, songs like this and warrior are just nothing compared to the likes of Public Image, Careering and Death Disco.

  • @012greenej their early work is one of the most important bodies of work the form has ever produced. But this later era gets unfairly criticised imo. This also represents one of the last great examples of the playing and songwriting of the late lamented genius John McGeogh. PiL may have some poor album tracks later on in their career, but every album post 1986 still had some epic songs and this is one of them. I would strongly recommend "Acid Drops" from the same album that spawned this track.

  • @CONSIDERABLYMORE1 Its just not how I idealise PIL.

  • anyone else have problems with the audio glitching?

  • @yoursaxman yeah me too =/

  • Those adds paid for the America Tour, which was excellent...Good song too, I like the use of the teddy bear :)

  • well, i tryed PiL, and theyre not for me. o well.

  • @blackserenade24 This is What You Want is good if you're getting into them. It's what got me into PiL.

  • nice skips :<

  • Why upload if the track skips...??

    Shit copy dude....

  • Look mummy, it's the butter salesman!

  • @MrSeventhElement

not the first vid Ive seen you posting this stupid phrase..

    get a life please..

the man is making music for 30 years now..he wont apologize to me or you nor anyone for his actions and decisions..

he wanted a few millions or whatever at that point, he did the job..so fucking what?

if youre too judgmental and too much of a poser to get this..well im sorry..

if you appreciated his music ,you wouldn't care for the ad..

so if you dont.. gtfu please..

  • @ZALIZAAAA 35 years actually to be exact

  • @drinkyourtea

    the more the merrier..

if we consider the music he offered to the public...even if it was just a decade itd be the same to me ..

and lets be real..his voice...its a vocal orgasm...no ad can change that...

  • @ZALIZAAAA yeh I didn't even realise he had a butter ad to be honest I live in australia and have always liked him

  • Esta rayado?

  • "the voidce"

  • Good song!

any one can give me a tab of it? I can only figure out a raw one.

  • DON'T BOTHER! IDIOT that uploaded this 'forgot' to mention that his CD skips all over the track! UTTER WASTE OF SPACE!

  • The teddy bear cracked me up the first time I watched this... it still does.

  • "Irish guy born in London"

    Not Irish then. ENGLISH.

  • @Photonzos He is both, isn't he? Identity can be many a thing :)

  • @oogie11

No he was born in England and grew up in England. Its like the ridiculous American "Irish" who think they are Irish because they had an Irish ancestor. No Born in the USA grew up in the USA USAmerican not Irish.

  • @Photonzos Well, it depends, if he has an Irish father or mother, then, well, he can call himself Irish if he wishes. I was born in England, but my parents were not, so for me, identity is many a thing. I could be English, British, or Moroccan

  • Just think how famous he'll be when he finally dies! Micheal Jackson was a punk.

  • @aerosapiens Shut up

  • @kiribula What is it in my comment that you take offense to? I love Johnny Lydon and he has not gotten the acclaim that he deserves. Jackson WAS weird. Lydon + Jackson = Lydon, Lydon, Jackson. Lydon squared!

  • @aerosapiens Very interesting

    yawn

  • John so cute. ;DDD*

  • SEX PISTOLS ARE BEST LIKE PIL

  • Class

  • @Vurtual ?,...I heard the next "Batman Movie" had an opening for "Joker". I am in total agreement he would have been great in #1 even though i am a J.N. fan,...however once a part is done by a "great" whom qute shortly meet with a tragic end,..well,.. i just can't see anyone playing joker for a while.

  • S-tres=enge.

  • Hello, i'm French, i'm 14 and i love PIL. But is that normal the problems of songs there is sometimes in cruel ?

  • i guess it's just the quality of the video

  • Mcgeogh's guitar still brilliant on this - miss his playing wonder what he'd be doing today?

  • @tchancebutler

he said a tv magazine called them punk. he said he doesn't give a shit about punk. and that all those shit new waves band that appeared just after the pistols were just imitators.

  • Even Devo?

  • se sale.1punk de madrid.Alex.

  • la hostia.desde madrid.Alex.

  • Brilliant sound - one of the best guitar sounds ever produced....

  • @piginasack RIP John McGeoch.

  • How could anybody hate this ,its simply genious

  • Double Plus Canny!

  • ganz einfach Genial!!!Aimalisch,Echt-Rat-Chatchaaaa!!!!!!CRUEL!!!HUUUUUHUUUUU!!

  • fuck the haters he earend his greatnes now ....fuck off -RAT CATCHAAAAA

  • Love PIL, been listening to them since the mid 80's.. Thank you for putting this video up, but I have one question.. Does it skip for everyone or just me?

  • Could an avid fan of PIL clear something up for me.?Was John Rambo, Lydons friend/bodyguard ever a member of PIL? As he resembles the guy playing guitar in Seattle video.

  • no sure but john mcgeoch (rip) played with pil as well as the cure and souixie and bad spelling banshees

  • see too many people critisise rotton for what he did when he was a pistol not his actual talent and this song is an eample of that talent

  • absolutely wonderful song ! not sin, far too entertaining...

  • glasgow xxx

  • I have 2 tickets i am selling at Machester Academy if interested please private message me

  • At the beginning he is having a nightmare that he was sentenced to Hell and Satan makes him a polished pop-star that sounds worse than an American Idol reject's rusty muffler.

  • fantastic song

  • ITS A POST-PUNK

  • Comment removed

  • I like coldplay's cover of this

  • hope you aware that admitting that is sacrilege

  • i'm glad someone at least kind of got the joke LOL

  • all is forgiven... now, anyone got any Mika tickets ?... :-)

  • The band is a joke :)

    Cant ya guys see it?

johnny is tired of all that rubish music out

    there. its one big joke.

  • i would not say new wave, more punk just i bit slower.

  • Doyubi gets it. Finally, someone. It's only taken 34 years.

  • they were new wave before new wave even became known

  • Obviously you've never heard a thing of what John Lydon says. If this is of any genre, it's post-rock.

  • @tazzman560

More like progressive rock after progressive rock had come and gone.

  • It makes so much sense for PIL to reunite!!!

  • I would love that to happen!

    Best band ever

  • Truly magnificent! Brilliant minds.

  • Simply a great song :)

  • simplemente perfecto jonyyyyyyy ....mexico

  • oh wow, i've never seen the vid for this ep. Thanks for the upload!

  • 熊と一緒に寝てるし

    可愛い

  • FUCKING RULES!!!!!!!!!

  • I wish there was a better quality vid, but you have all there is, and for that, I tip my hat....you have my favorite song of all time. Thank you.

  • Being eccentric, to me at least, always pays off in music...

  • fast powerful song.that's the cream of the crop.

  • bloody brilliant!

  • Great song, love it.

  • great song! wish it didn't jump tho.

  • john lydon your awesome! i fucking luv you!

this song is so inspirational from a genius

    5 *****

  • Nothing less than this. He's like a breath of fresh air!

Nothing bad for an Irish guy born in London at the same daywhen his immigrant parents came to England. Despite -- and even because? -- the meningitis, the total ammnesya at his 8, the curve on his spine, the lack of musical education... HE IS THE BEST!

  • @Hacker73 but you dont want to feel Johnny's breath i think

  • hahahahahaha... logically not. don't be so cruel to me!

  • @JohnnyRottenFTW it's probably rotten.

  • John Joseph Lydon: SIMPLY THE GREATEST FUCKING GENIUS EVER!!!

Love him or hate him: this man broke the Music History in 2 parts: Before and After the Punk.

HE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PERSON IN THE ENTIRE POP CULTURE HISTORY. He changed the course of rivers of thoughts. The rest is the rest.

Did you had seen him in the History Channel documentary Classic Albums?

  • He's the incarnated intelligence itself... A genuine British poetry, original, provoking, disturbing, punk, modern... A real alchemist, uniting art and reality. The Most Revolutionary Musician Ever.

  • Very well said.

  • @Hacker73 sorry iggy pop or brian jones come first by far, although this is amazing

  • Aw, how cute he is in this one :P

  • this was one wonderful song of pil and honestly he is so fine here makes me wet!!!!

  • This was a great song, from a great album. Produced by Dave Jerden, who really beefed up the sound. Classy production.

  • this was the last pil record i ever bought!

    i have every album

  • Wow...Simply fantastic!!! One of the best of the 90s!!!

  • is the jumping in the song an effect or is it just a bad copy

  • just a bad copy

  • oh good. i really like this song but the jump kind of ruins

  • A cockroach must of got stuck in his record player :)

  • lydon its a genius

i miss the original formers of pil

wobble and levene are the masters of bass and guittars

  • fantastic. I HAVE to buy this record.

  • One of the best!!

  • Thanks so much!

  • John is awsome, and will allways be :D I love this song and the vid!

  • rip john mcgeoch top guitarist. sincerly missed. x.

  • wen was his passing

  • March 4, 2004. Played with great bands like Magazine, Siouxsie & Banshees and Public Image of course. With Keith Levene the best New Wave-guitarist.

Just look up Siouxsie & the Banshees - Spellbound.

  • That was a reaction to 'mommaliese'.

  • body and soul

  • You know PIL sampled the sound of a blue whale for the part of the song that goes, Cruel, cruel, cruel, cruel. Pretty cool trivia, eh.

  • where the hell did you find that out?

There's hardly anything on PiL on the Internet, let alone this particular song.

    Cool fact though.

  • Brilliant. I <3 PiL!

  • malcolm's full of s***. everyone knows that now.

john doesn't owe him anything really... cuz john is just john and thats what's gotten him to where he's gotten.

  • John is always a great artist..he will be for ever one of the most intelligent artist of the last 30 years..

  • Best PIL songggg :) soooo great :)

  • ground breaking for its time!

  • markofthebeasts almost

    casi pero no es P.I.L.

    is cruel!!!

uh uh uh ih uh uh

cleopatra..... rat catcher.... unbeliveble increíble so cruel ... lo fui a ver en Obras ... el viernes exploto un petardo en el asshole del bombo y quedamos todos sordos. el sabado terrible recital

  • thats some really brutal stuff. he's brought out nothing decent since '86 for god's sake. as far as i go he should take himself off selling real estate or whatever he and nora do these days, he's no creative force left and hasn't had for years.

  • Plenty of good post '86 stuff - get your head out the sand.

  • like what!?!? i think there were 2 decent songs on 9, the tune he did with leftfield was good too, other than that i'm at a loss as to know what you're on about. i love pil by the way

  • "That what is not" was a great album - no Metal Box granted - but I'd rather give it a spin than pre-86 "Flowers of romance" or "This is what you want".

  • i forgot about "this is what you want"- a real turkey!! flowers of romance was a fine bit of work. this song is growing on me despite my original aversion to it. hadn't heard it in about 15 years, that's all.

  • Oh please, FoR burys any of the late PiL albums.

  • sadly...i agree

  • Astounding..John Lydon could sing the list of ingredients from a soup can and give it the same chilling and glorious effect. "That Which Is Not" was one of PiL's best efforts. Heard it on a Pittsburgh AM station in 1991 for the first time and never forgot it.

  • great song.

  • why, do you recommend this by personal experience? if you like it, "the problem is yours".

  • I think Johnny Rotten can thank Malcolm McLaren for everything he has achieved during his career.without him he would've been forgotten a long time ago.

  • BRAVO! I agree with you 100%

  • I gotta disagree with you a bit; Johnny owes Malcolm for getting him started but not for anything after that.

  • i agree with Phantom.

  • Seriously?

  • Yea. Look at other 'creations' of Malcolm. Where are they now? How many are still in the industry?

  • malcolm and the bootzilla orchestra, a fiasco. lydon does alright. always has and still does. sticks to his roots.

  • Right.

MM talked the talk, but didn't walked the walk.

Talkie Malkie mastered fashion --- not music.

  • true, but malcom was a selfish greedy dog and im not sure why you'd want to stand up for him

  • First saw this performed on CH4's The Word - great song.

  • public image ltd songs sound like cindy lauper crossed with the sex pistols

  • cleopatra..... rat catcher....

  • Soul of a woman was created below .

  • Totally Rocks!

  • I've been sorta racking my brains trying to figure out what this song is about, I have some idea but that's about it.

  • I and I love it 2007.

  • So 80s...!

  • no, its early 90's.

  • Alright, but it sounds like 80s music...

  • So 80s...

  • The sound is f-ed up on this vid. It 'skips'.

  • Love IT

  • Fantastic!!!!!!

  • OH MY GOSH!!!!!! Now I've seen all PiL videos.

    Danke

  • I love John. He's come quite a long way from the pistols. music & lyrics... fantastic

  • ¡¡Great song...Great video!!
