Musical Youth had talent, and plenty of it; but when I saw them performing this song on TV, I knew they were finished. I've only recently discovered that it was co-written by the man who ripped my favourite band apart.
the sound quality is disgusting but the picture is not bad i have this video clip in better version & hang on on dvd yes i said on dvd a home made musical youth dvd
made in 2007 for the 25th anniversary of the band next year it will make 30 years as me
IMO, michael jacksons version sounds about 1,000 times better then this....but I'm glad a band actually recorded it and released it and even made a video for it....just think if this and all the other unreleased thriller tracks were all kept on...would have made some awesome videos. Damn quincy jones left off so many good tunes.
this was originally going to be put on Michael Jacksons album Thriller, but was cut by Quincy Jones, in my opinion it could have easily replaced "Lady In My Life" which is the song i listen to when i want to fall asleep.
I think you're viewing London and England based on how it is today. The demographics were probably different in the 80's when this video was made so keep that in mind.
I'll have to disagree. I like this version better. At first i didn't like it at all... Sounds too commercial. It grew on me though. I just watched their Unsung last night. Sucks what happened to them. They could have been so big given the right instructions.
Could they have picked a more ugly main girl though? XP...
i can picture if this music video was just Michael. He would probably dance in the bus and probably dancing all over the place and there would be a whole group of dancers around him watching him dance. too bad michael did'nt do this song/
Not really, it was Hawk Wolinski, one of the writers of this song, who gave it to Musical Youth. They never even knew MJ recorded it too, until I told them ;-) . The resemblance between the two versions is amazing.
@thedanielbressette WOW I Had not realized it was a cover to mjs jaja until i listened to it tdy and saw u comment jajaja an aually have both songs jaja and yes mj's is better
Other than this song that was passed on by MJ, another song that was suppose to be on Thriller was Chaka Khan's Ain't Nobody and Quincy Jones wanted that song, but songwriter David Wolinski said that he already made a deal with Russ Titleman and wanted that song to showcase Chaka Khan's vocals.
u dont believe me nigga? i fucked up sum nigga name PEE WEE in tha courts at tha patterson houses on 145th....in tha bronx.....nigga i smashed on that foo durty style and his faggot ass homeboys ran upstairs lol
lol omfg!!!! dcflava.....strait up dawg...FUCK THA BRONX!! nigga im from texas...... fuck them big city niggaz .....they dont know shit about the hood....i been to NY 6 TIMES AWWREADY.. everytime i go nobody tries to mean mug or nuthin.... nigga and thatz cuz i be reppin my city in your city and dont no one say shit!
Yeah that's Kelvin Grant. He has a website, myspace and facebook blogs. He was on the Musical Youth Unsung profile on TV One recently. He basically sounded like he had other interest besides music.
dcflava74- nwacompton181 is so right for calling you a faggot and saying stop whining- every single comment you have wrote has been negative- dissing them copying the jacksons and saying all that bollocks that no-one gives a fuck about & doesnt read, just enjoy the fucking video & don't be a cockface and reply back, the moaning dick that everyone hates so get a life and keep your dirty mouth shut or i'll find u n kill u u cocksucking racist cunt and wanker, get the fucking message bastard?
Find me,i live in NYC in the Bronx and see what will happen to u,u won,t last a second talking like that.U r just pathethic as well as an idiot,u need help.
To the idiot lowlife who had to resort to childish name calling by calling me a faggot,u don,t know anything about me and it just goes to show how ignorant and pathethic u are to resort to that,it was very unnecessary of u,it sounds like u r a very miserable individual.
Wow,i didn,t know Musical Youth at the time had made a crossover. This sound very Jackson-like or something that Five Star would make, sounds alright but it sounds like they were under alot of pressure from their record label to sound so much like the Jacksons.I rather hear their original roots reggae sound instead of this,it,s a wonder why they had a quick death in the industry.
I can kinda see why MCA wanted to cross them over some. As an American Reggae listener I've noticed that Reggae has a more niche fan base in America. This is mainly because of the exposure to Reggae in America. Reggae is mainly heard on college radio in the states. Rarely do Americans hear roots Reggae on commercial U.S stations. Outside of Pass The Dutchie I think MCA knew the rest of M.Y's music would appeal mainly to core Reggae fans who again are smaller in the U.S
I think the American record company made a mistake in hindsight releasing this song as a single. It sounds nothing like what Musical Youth is mostly known for. It sounds too much like a Jacksons song and MJ, who originally sung this and was a candidate for the Thriller album, would have been better off giving it to his brothers for the Victory album. It seemed like a good idea at the time considering Musical Youth was suffering an even quicker commercial decline here in America than in Britain.
A catchy, addictive pop song that would have been a smash hit had it been marketed properly. This is the definitive rendition; MJ's version sucks.
This video is highly entertaining, too.
