Debbie Reynolds and Sandra Dee were not in real life as wholesome as they appeared on Screen nor was Marilyn Monroe as stupid as the roles she played either she had an IQ of 180. Amazing what misconceptions movies gives sometimes. Sandra Dee was irritating in this movie well that was the character and she did it brilliantly was better in A Summer Place made the same year. The whole cast was brilliant better than the original.

John Gavin who played Steve Archer in this movie played Sam Loomis in Psycho the following year. I use to get confused and think his name was Steve Loomis because of the names stating with the letter S.

@fashionhistorylover actually the motion picture production code was heavily enforced during the 50s so it would makes sense that the director didn't directly approach the issue, because if he had the film would never have been allowed to be showed...at least not here in the US.
I'm sick of people misusing the word pedophile. Being attracted to someone below the legal age is NOT defined as pedophilia. If anything it's Ephebophilia which is an attraction to someone AFTER puberty. Pedophilia only applies to prepubescent children. Educate yourself people.
