  • AAAhhh!! I tried doing this and its really really tiring! Awesome, it'll work on my anaerobic and muscle endurance in my legs :D

  • What I liked about this video is he is speaking in English and not other language....which makes it really easy to understand....Thanks for uploading this video and hoping to see such soon.....!!!

  • @wc1hater it is better not to cross the leg so that your back faces the net because, when you push back to the center/base to perform a forehand, you don't need to waste time in rotating your hips and shoulders. plus it is quicker

  • @krisanantha 9 months already hope you still remember your question. Peter is a double player it is very important to turn fast from the standing position, by doing this you already cover half of the court the rest is up to your partner. The speed of shuttle cock from the opponent is faster than single. It would not make you get use to cover just that region for sure. If you are single player after doing this do the whole court foot work also just add one more step.

  • Nice, thank you very much! Had to transpose it for left hand, though xD

But I thought we were supposed to cross the other leg (so that your back will be facing the net) when you're backhanding? Or is that only for lunges?

  • @Aznremix - No. This excercise does have susbstance to it. I did this drill for 4 months, without playing badminton at all in these 4 months. When I came back and went on court - I could'nt believe that I was the one playing.

If you do this for about 1 to 2 hours, everyday...you WILL become incredibly fast on court. This is coming from someone who has done this drill.

Believe me - DO this if you hate your movement.

  • @trinekkini 1-2 hours non stop, are you crazy ???

  • @br3admonster Well what I did was progressive..For a 2 hour session, I would start with a good warm up..Then I would do the drill for 2-3 min then take a 5 min break. Once that is done, I would do the drill to failure..The reason I did it like this was because it trains your body to recover in the time it has..The 5 min is the only time your body will get to recover before you kill yourself to failure. Then take another 10 min break and so on..

  • you position urself in the correct position... lol

  • Will try but i feel i dont have enough stamina :(

  • I have a doubt here...Peter says it does not matter if we cover the entire court as we focus here more on movements....but if we keep doing this drill , then wont we get used to moving only in that region of the court and not cover the entire court during a match? Please reply fast

  • @krisanantha No, I think in a real match you'll chase the shuttle much more and make bigger steps to cover the corners. This drill is just to get used to the rhythm and the correct footwork. You wont start to misjudge shots because of this drill, and as this isnt the only thing you should be training, you wont lose your 'feel' for the court (i.e. where in court you are and if a shot is out).

  • @krisanantha This drill is for beginning players. Footwork is very important, but many trainers seem to dismiss it a bit (at least in Belgium). Now there are trainers (like myself) who prefer to teach footwork at a very early stage. In this early stage, it is much more important to do it slowly and correctly than to focus on the details. And compared to getting the positions of the feet right and making the correct steps an automatic behavior on the court, covering the entire field is a detail.

  • why the hell would someone dislike this?

  • I will try~~

  • Hav nu lidt respekt. Han er dygtig!

  • what ?? can t understand

  • Isn't his Court weird?

  • @ICanUnderstand What about it is wierd? The sound it makes? If so, it is because it has wood planks underneath to dampen the force on your joints.

  • lol he just no.4 2007

  • Ouch! I just dropped a knife on my big toe. -.-

  • why mus he be a left hander .. so wasted .

  • nice shorts

  • im really good at doubles but at singles my footwork lets me down my opponents always counter my shots becauz of my poor footwork

  • @alphie10 You can't be good at any events in badminton if you have bad footwork.

  • i didnt say im completely poor at footwork i just neeed to improve it

  • @alphie10 Lol yeah okay. Good luck.

  • GIT TO DA CHAWPA

  • arnie turns to badminton!!!

  • i had to turn my speakers to the max to hear him

  • he made it look so easy, simple and effortless,

but if you do the drills/shadow for lets say 1 or 2h a day, which is much exceeding the required amount, and focus on the correct movements/footworks

you can get incredibly fast after a few months or even a month if you have good athletic abilities, but for most ppl (amatures) they rather go and own noobs than thinking how to improve their own games

  • k let me refphrase it more clearly. With the coaches i have done shadow footwork training with, at the back of the court they say to not go all the way to the back singles service line before scisorring because any shot except maybe a a really defensive lift or long singles serve would out. Instead, they say to practice scissoring around the back doubles line instead. But in this drill he is just working on recovery and quick footwork. I have seen indo/chinese players doing the same drill!

  • This guy needs to look up position in the thesaurus :P (see smash vid :P )

Great vid tho, thanks. I find it useful.

  • You sound abit harsh on Peter for showing one particular drill for footwork tips in a 7 min clip, isn't there other world professional coaches and players who have already shown how to cover the court fully? One can find those drills on the net if you look hard enough.

  • note that peter was only doing this drill as a warm up, this isn't how the real drill is suppose to look like. When moving up to the net, he should be fully up to the net and not half way, and same thing as going back, he did not go all the way back. As well as moving to the sides, if your a doubles player then this drill is completely uselss unless u go all the way to the corner. The reason why im telling everyone this is because bad habits could occur and its not a good thing. Cheers!

  • Well, according to Peter, the main purpose of this drill is to develop rhythm for the single's game. It can serve as a warm up too, but I think it's a proper drill by itself. Not every footwork drill is about coverage although most of them are.

  • yes i agree that this footwork develops rhythm but think about how much u abuse this footwork and go into a real game. He should have a video where he goes fully towards all corners to show everybody that this type of footwork drill is only used for a rhythm purpose. Peter is a great player, im not underestimating his abilities but his coaching method is lacking stuff in between. He should be describing how to step forward, the type of injuries you could have if doing it wrong, etc.

  • hey, just to let you know, it isn't always neccisarly true that you should be moving the full court to practice the footwork. you should only typically move back to the doubles service line at the back before scissoring else the bird that you are shadowing would be out the back...

  • not to be mean or anything but what you just said made no sense to me Illusion113. What does moving back to the double service line have to do with anything? How would you know if the shot would be out or not? Your not hitting with a bird while doing this drill and of course you have to move at full length for every corner you go to or otherwise its a bad habit if you do short steps. Trust me i've done a 1000 shadow drills with coaches.

  • Gosh, his shoes are squeaky.

  • very good drill

  • thxs 4 da steps...hope i can win on the coming mssd la...

  • Hope we can meet in mssd and mssm ..
