Without it we wouldn't have the brave men and women of the NYPD or FDNY. We should all be paying our gratitude to them in just little more than a week from now. For without them, it surely would have been far worse.
@ChaoticMatters Thanks. We all lose with taxes that are too high. When you start trying to really get ahead of your bills and find that the gov starts taking more and more - keeping you from getting there - it becomes apparent that they WANT you to be indebted to them and subservient rather than independent. Keep voting for liberty with a minimum set of taxes required to provide for essential services mostly centered around national security and infrastructure. The rest should be state. Thx.
@cranberries09 Whereas it might seem that "free" healthcare is the compassionate path, in fact it doesn't work the way you would think. "Free" doesn't mean "good" - rather just that you don't pay when you visit. Survival rates for life threatening illnesses are lower in nations with socialized healthcare. Why? Because rationing takes away incentives. It's not really free. At a point, there is not enough money to give prompt care. Decisions have to be made who receives treatment and when.
@OldFartsChannel If you have a broken leg, it may be weeks til treatment because it is not life threatening. It may not sound bad to you now, but if it were your leg having to be rebroken and reset because the delay caused improper healing to start, you wouldn't be too happy. Or, how about the woman in Oregon who was refused life-saving drugs because their state run care didn't think the return on their investment was good. Generally speaking, in the US, you receive immediate care.
@OldFartsChannel Financial incentives keep doctors employed and drug companies coming up with new treatments to treat problems and extend life. Take away the incentive and it doesn't get developed any longer.
@OldFartsChannel I'm really not saying I'm an expert on this issue, but my Grandmother actually has to rely on universal (sorry not "free") healthcare in the UK. She got a rare form of arthritis at age 29. I know that not everyone will get the absolute best treatment with this kind of healthcare, but people do owe their lives to the system. The fact that it has been working (albeit not perfectly) seems to be a really good thing. I just don't see why the US seems to be the only one complaining.

There are state subsidized insurance programs which are based on income and only a few dollars a month. In addition, the Emergency Room must treat everyone - it's law. @swso2000 I disagree. Actually "illegal" is not a moral word. It is a description of legal status. As a Christian, Jesus talks about those trying to get into heaven as "robbers." What an unkind word to use. Why would Jesus use that term? Because he is describing the status of that person as one who is not invited to be in the house.
@swso2000 You would correct in saying that many (if not most) of the illegals who come don't come for the purpose of criminal activity. However, there are many who do (please see reports on drug cartel activities and current violence.)
@swso2000 Lastly, unless we control who comes in ("legal" immigration) it destabilizes our country from security and economic points of view. It would be the same as if you let just anyone (invited or not) sleep, eat and entertain themselves at your house. Could YOU sustain it?
