@Protoman85 CD-i has many titles that you can barely even call a game. Just think about the boardgames... some are good, like Clue, but you've also got basic stuff like backgamon, battleship and... four on a row. There's also the interactive games or the sports games, they are just terrible.
This game is right up there too though, it horrible.
@HaloSpartanG13 Takes some patience to learn the controls and memorize enemy placement. I've never been able to beat this though, that's just to taxing on anyone I think!
@diobloxx Ha ha ha, I knew about this video before the Avgn review, but his review reminded me of some good times with a slightly less angry game reviewer.
Oh, one thought on why they zoomed in the screen, It might be because the game was designed to be played on a moniter, and TV's have a lower resolution. So maybe it was their way around not makign the sprites blurry.
You crazy man! Making me look back at these old one, that's just evil I tell you!
I'm pretty sure they made this so much zoomed in because the CD-i just wouldn't be able to draw all the sprites of the enemies at a whole room. In the original there are quite a lot, and the CD-i is so bad with sprites of any kind. I think it was specifically made for the CD-i, so I doubt they made it for monitors since the CD-i was designed to be used on TV's (prefereably Philips ones of course ;)).
I've been meaning to tell you, your complaint about the CD-i controller only having 2 buttons. I bought an FM Towns Marty last year and that had a similar problem too, but they managed to get another button out of it by having one where up and down is pressed at the same time, as it's impossible to do on a Marty control pad.
Oh nice info there Larry! I wonder why they never did that on the CD-i. All they could ever come up with was that 1+2 together which isn't ideal as it can be done on the regular controller already.
I have no experience with the FM Towns Marty though. How's that system?
Well the other thought for a CD-i pad is the remote that came with it had multiple buttons, why didn't they use any of those as well?
I found a guy on eBay selling a box load of consoles that didn't have any power leads, It also had a 3DO FZ-10 (best version of the 3DO as it's got extra RAM, so you can play music and sound effects at the same time) a SG1000 and four orange gamecubes. It was also covered in mud for some reason.
But the Marty is a great System, Kinda reminds me of a CD32, very Amiga like in graphics Etc. but had some arcade perfect ports for games like Turbo Out Run and Splatterhouse.
Also LOADS of Lucasarts games came out on it.
They're pretty cheap if you can ever find one, also if you want any games too, give me a shout!
Sounds like a system I'd like for sure. Doesn't seem to be that easy to get over here though! Maybe I'll run into it at some point, for now can't reall afford much anyway. Thanks for the info though, I'll need to look more into it once I got some more funds for it!
Ah cool, well it's quite cool to get hold of obscure consoles noones ever heard of, I got an Apple Pippin as well (really cheaply) so you really just need to buy the machine, you can DL the games for free off the internets.
hey when making your intro and you pulled the box out of your closet was it an accident that all the other things fell on you and you just went with it?
AHset it up so it wuld all fall, the only thing preventing the stack from falling over is me. You can see a bit of a difference in the shot where I'm reaching for that box and the one where everything comes down. The first time we shot it the stack wouldn't go down which looked really stupid lol. To bad lost the source files for it :(
Depends... It's an interesting system and it can be fun to collect for since it's not overly populair. But the amount of quality games is to low to make it really worth it if you just want to play the games.
It also really depends on the price you can get it for off course, but in the US they seem to be stupidly expensive for some odd reason.
The CD-I version was completely ruined by the terrible controls. Why wasn't it game-tested properly? The programmers should be inmprisoned without trial.
This was the first version of Dark Castle I played, so the serries didn't make a good firt impression of me. I played the Amiga version later and that was much more playable, although still hard! Great concept it was at the time.
Haha you know I actualy got a new copy of it in the mail last monday! Now I can play it again, and it will be my next one since I promised it so long ago.
Neat. I came here to see a different perspective of Dark Castle and I really enjoyed your vid!

What are the games like on the pippin? what's it comparable to graphically? I've never seen the pippin in action
Jprime777 2 years ago
Yeah, I've never seen any pippen games being played as videos, (I'll have to make some myself)
Graphically it's pretty similar to the 3DO, but with a kind of CD-i presentation flair if you get what I mean.

Dragon's lair II Timewarp (CDI)
and/or The 7th Guest (CDI)
....just wondered....
PS: I'm a big fan, and love your reviews! :) ....and I'm Norwegian...!

Hi there Potet321, thank you very much for being a fan, that's awesome to hear!
The games have been added to the list. I think the 7th Guest will be up soon (actually got 3 requests for that one so far!).
Thanks again!
