  • Beautiful sounds !!!

  • real life...................

  • Real Life

  • This song was the best of the non hit singles on the album!

  • Just listened to this song..........have had the cassette for years.....never liked it before. Truly a classic

  • Como me gusta esta canción :')

  • The classiest song about a prostitute I've ever heard.

  • Brilliant picture of a sailors life and the seamier side - terrific.

  • All songs from this album are fantastic. Besides Captain Fantastic, and all the earlier albums this was the end of the greatest work of Bernies and Elton.

  • i dont think many people know this song is about prostitutes. but its still one of my favorite elton songs. it makes me think of my mom

  • If you've listened to this tune & have felt nothin', then you need to check yer pulse!

  • This double album has everything. Brilliant tunes, lyrics, music, double gate-fold sleeve album artwork, the lot. The whole concept was finely tuned to perfection. Its even got seagulls on it! This to me is classic Elton John/Bernie Taupin + the band at their prime. When I first heard the intro 'Funeral for a Friend' it was late at night, and I was young and alone in the house. It scared the living daylights out of me :). 'Sweet Painted Lady' is just one of the many stellar songs on this album.

  • I love you mom and dad!!!! I hope your having a great time in heaven! Thanks mom for letting me appreciate great music. Any Elton John song makes me wanna cry thinking of you!!!!! 10-11-96 Love your daughter, Alicia

  • I was setting pool side in las vegas 73 man the years went fast

  • I MISS MY HIGH SCHOOL DAYS

  • @davidjoshjacob123 I can agree...let's go out & make some new memories...life's actually better now but we think it was better back then...cheers & Happy Holidays!

  • I was lucky enough to see him on this tour in Detroit. I never will forget the fog and the darkness as the first notes of Funeral For a Friend rolled out. I know this album gets some critical acclaim , but really it is one of the best albums of all time in my opinion. When the critics rip on it for not being a "concept" album, I think that it is much like the Beatles White Album that works because of the diversity of sound. This song and Roy Rogers are my favorites.

  • @wpollock1

Good points, each song has a great diversity. This was always one of my favs also from this alblum. Not a bad song the entire thing.

  • Barcelona 1973.. USN.. That beautiful Spanish lady 10 years older than I..

  • perfect.

  • What is this song about? I don't understand...Just show me

the tricks that you've learned, okay? Probably my favorite

    E.J. song.(unregulated smile).

  • @spoildn8410 youre kidding, right??

  • @boonmcbwen I am always being sarcastic on these comment boards. Don't pay any attention

to me. I know what tricks are.

  • The first time I kissed the first woman I ever truly loved was to this sing. I miss you, Liz. -8-Track

  • @EagleKammback The 1st love is alway's the true'est love we ever have isn't it??

  • @EagleKammback The magic of music!

  • Love this song

  • 78,000 is rediculous...there should be like, 10,000,000 likes over here.

  • The Super Seventies !!

  • reminds me of the beatles' rocky racoon..elton john didn't miss a beat on yellow brick road..

  • @801liveable -It does sound like 'rocky raccoon!!!"

  • how good is this !

  • Will you guys please stop BEING so picky about the lyrics!! We all know what it means, Right!

  • @magpieeye - Yeah...I agree, knock it off about the lyrics.

    Oh, uh, never mind.

  • Comment removed

  • As far as the lyrics go: In order to "get" something you have to do something. Being is a form of doing, such as being in debt, it means the process of doing. Being alive, the process of being alive; therefore, in order to "get" something, you have to "do" something. So getting paid for being laid is correct. Don't you get paid for working? Jesus christ, if I could do my life over, I would have dropped out of high school and never picked up a book... ever.

  • @jason13204 why do you say that man? i dropped out and work at the sonic, but i aint go no regrets. why would you want to drop out and not read? aint we supposed to better ourselves through education? just seems odd unless you know something i dont know.

  • @TATELANDDOG oh, i was just saying ignorance is bliss. I think it was socrates who said the unhappiest of men are those who are well learned.

  • The album that gave Billy Joel his sound.

  • gary pepper

  • The album is sadly dead. Along with album art. Now we have shitty little pumped up singles from little pieces of shit like lady gaga. Those like me who came of musical age in the 70's are the ones to be envied.

  • @miabarry I think that's too much of a generalization. There are still many within today's pop culture who make quality pieces of art - that are not singles - for us to enjoy, like Jack Johnson, Jason Mraz, Coldplay, Sigur Ros, etc. Albeit I enjoy 70's music and whatnot, it's sad that you are neglecting our contemporary artists simply because you have misguided prejudices about pop culture.

  • @fikerk I agree totaly there is fantastic music today as there has always been since classical times you just have to filter out the dross

  • @miabarry AGREED!!!

  • i had an 8 track, friend loaned me the album and it had the words, i'd sit in my car and listen to it till i killed the battery. good time to be a teen.

  • Magnum Opus

  • Elton peaked with this album............

  • it should leave everyone warm and fuzzy flashback or not:)

  • The lyrics are wrong. It should be "Being paid for gett'in laid."

NOT "Gett'in paid for being laid." That makes no sense. Ugh!! Bernie Taupin - you dumb ass.

Okay - all of you brainwashed Bernie Taupin fans will vote thumbs down on this comment because you don't understand the English language!

  • @coolcat20million

'For' in English shows posterior causality as well as an end/objective.

  • @musictomyears8 - I was referring to exchanging the words "Being" and "Gett'in in the song's reprise. The "for" can stay where it is.

  • @coolcat20million Er, the point is that we understand what he means. There are many, many songs that lack grammatical high marks, but their meaning is still clear. Unless you are 8 years old, of course.

  • @candelise - I agree with you...there are Plenty of songs with bad grammar.

Does that mean Sir Elton has to join them? Someone with his musical accomplishments should be held to a higher standard, not simply lumped into the same category as "everyone else does it."

    And, for the record, I'm 7 & 3/4.

  • @coolcat20million Maybe. However, I do not think that Elton and his entire musical legacy is going to tumble down like the'Tower Of Babel' because of one line in ONE SONG, do you? Still, I will raise a toast to all the 7 & 3/4 year old super pedantic ,hair-splitters of the world! I wish you well, really.

  • @candelise - Cheers to you, my friend.

  • @coolcat20million you left out the comma before the quotation. : )

  • @jason13204 - he, he, he.

  • @coolcat20million I understand the english language. It just would not sound right if it were "Being paid of gettin" laid" And it does make sense the other way...you're just being picky. I supposing you were'nt even thought of in the '70's...this is why it makes no sense to you :)

  • Best Elton Album and my favorite Elton song.

    :)

  • You'd think this song gets more views...this song is amazing.

  • A magical album!

  • drew the cover for Yellow Brick for advertising class when I was in High School,,,,,Lisa, (my classmate) got levi's for our display. Got an A.

  • One of the GREATEST things about the 1970's- this song from Elton at his BEST!!!!

  • Great album with great songs: Sweet Painted Lady is my favourite. Let´s keep on praising Elton John but don´t forget Bernie Taupin´s fantastic lyrics. One of the best songwriting teams in music history. Just make a list of their highlights.

  • @crazyrabbit84 DIRTY LITTLE GIRL IS LIKE HIS SECOND BEST.

  • @GJG5241 Yes 'Dirty Little Girl' is one of his best, without a doubt! And 'Harmony' too!

  • It's time to go buy this on cd. I have the record, but it's nice to have it for car use. Perhaps Elton's best album of all time!

  • love this album i listen to it over and over again

  • I miss you, dad. You inspired my love for Elton. I miss you everyday, but everytime I hear an Elton song , it's almost as if you never left.

  • @Diofan888 God that's so sad. I'm sorry for your loss.

  • @Diofan888 You're lucky to have had dad who was tuned in.

  • Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is my favority Elton John album. Released as a double album it is so strong from beginning to end. The diversity in the music and the lyrics. Just a great album. It's in my top five of all time.

  • I love love love xxx

  • This complete album is a piece of genious...but who didn't know that already.....

  • George AFB 1973 2067COM

  • One of the best albums of all time--every song was awesome.

  • I love this song, not so much for the subject matter, but the beginning makes me think of my childhood...back in the early 70s'...brings a smile to my face.

  • Reminds me of days of high school.....yah..."76

  • the Super Seventies !!

  • such a sad song...for the painted ladies and all the young men...

  • @BetaDeltaCebu Excuse me, but there is a MAJOR difference between prostitution and marriage and I take great offense as a wife that you would say they are the same! I agree that we should leagalize prostitution as it would help the economy and it is the oldest profession of women, but don't belittle two people (not necessarily a man and woman) who are in love and want to spend the rest of their lives together!

  • Yeah yeah yeah mizofan, you're pimping the new album on every Elton thread on youtube. We get it.

  • I was enjoying the seventies when this song came out, the whole album is great!!:)

  • Magnificent album! Captain Fantastic and Tumbleweed Connection my other 2 favourites. Now we have a great new Elton album The Union with Leon Russell about to be released.

  • this song reminds me during my second year high school.

  • Its Really Sad When People Cant Enjoy A Song Without Telling The Whole World Your Life Story. Enjoy The Music.

  • @marijuanaisgreat People like sharing memories. If you're 43 like your profile says, you should understand this. They're most likely enjoying the music while remembering where they were when they heard this. I enjoyed this song while writing to you.

  • @mindlessjrlee Good comment because great music...or, for that matter, even bad music creates a new wrinkle of memory in the grey matter...and this melencholy tune conjures up for me, a time when life was carefree & innocent even though the lyrical content is far more mature than I was when I first heard it some 30 something years ago...breathe!!!

  • @marijuanaisgreat did you run out of weed? :( just be happy for ppls expression of themselves...:)

  • Beautiful song about experiencing a woman in the worlds oldest profession. Yellow Brick Road was Sir Elton John & Bernie Taupin at their creative best!

  • simplismente lindo

  • @edsroraphael está canção me trás doces recordações.

  • Very pretty melody on this one. Love Elton's voice on this one. It's titled "Sweet Painted Ladies" though. Bernie Taupin's lyrics "Opportunity awaits me like a rat in a drain" and "forget us we'll have gone very soon, just forget we ever slept in your rooms, and we'll leave the smell of the sea in your beds....." are visually descriptive and opens up the senses. Miss those two together.

  • God how I've missedthis entire album without realizing it.

  • always loved this song.

  • sailors love song,,,

  • Typical comments from men, not all women are this way, as not all men are crap, hopefully some things have changed since the 70's .. Oh wait, no.. have not, still great tune for music lovers

  • This is about a kind of woman every man needs every once. Sometimes we (man) just want a very quite woman to make love, not a noisy locomotive. It's sad some wives don't understand that.

  • this was my first rock album ever in the 70s it was such a treat after being forced to watch hee-haw growing up,and i dont give a shit if he is gay,its still good music!!!!

  • this thing is like about a prostitute

  • I named you Youtube name after this song! It's one of my favorites! Love ya Elton!

  • ...So she lays down beside me again, my sweet painted lady the one with no name...

  • ... and we'll leave the smell of the sea in your beds, where love's just a job and nothing is said...

  • Awesome song, I can relate!

  • The whole album is great, but somehow I come back to this song as the melody is so good. I bought the "Making of" DVD of this album and it is amazing how quickly he came up with the melodies to this album. This is his finest album, I think.

  • @wpollock1 Very close to his finest, it's all subjective, probably his/their

best known, Taupin says they both love GBYBR, but not sure it's their best.. If it

isn't ,it's very damn close though. Tumbleweed and Don't Shoot me are pretty

    excellent.

  • @17865329 Yes all subjective as I see Don't Shoot Me, GBYBR, Honky Chateau or Elton John as his best. For some reason, Tumbleweed is not in my top five or six.

Never warmed up to some of the songs. Madman and Caribou are also higher up - that I consider his best writing period. Again, all subjective. The breadth of writing on this album is astonishing. Saw the tour in 74 and never can forget the fog, then the first notes of Funeral for A Friend.

  • @17865329 I suspect that they love 'Captain Fantastic' more.

  • .. there is a place in the world for a woman like you...

  • i love this song........

  • Every song on this album is GREAT!

  • I figured this song on acoustic!

    Epic album

  • One of my fav's ,remember being 7 years old and holding this album and singing these tunes with my father(now passed) good memories and good taste in music.

  • Oh, and this album is now hanging on my wall with a few others, placed perfectly in their frames...

  • I don't know if it's the good wine or this just has become my favorite Elton John song. Both are of quality sort. This is one of the albums I never bought. His greatest hits was when I came in on the scene. I remember that day my neighbor turned me onto him. Been a hard core fan ever since. Rock On Elton!!!

  • Great song, the wine makes it even better.

  • I was three years old when my mom bought this album and I would study the pictures inside and dance everyday to the music....every song is a winner.

  • @ellammenno Bless You!

  • CAN I CUM INSIDE?

  • nigel olson is a great drummer.

  • My mom is good friends with Nigel, and he IS great!

  • Great sounding song, and one of the best albums EVER!

  • This song reminds me of a beautiful girl I used to see.

  • same hazelwood1963...LUv this song xxx 1972-73 not sure...hugzzzzz

  • this song reminds me of this nasty hag that gave me head one time, outside of a bar....

  • i love this song it reminds me of my high school days...he he he

  • at the end of the song when its the seagulls making noise, i picture a middle aged whore on the beach wiping bukakke off her mouth and face.

  • Thats True

Sweet Painted Ladies Love Sweet Bukaakke

  • this song is so great !his voice is wow!!!!!

  • thank you U.S.N.

  • Reminds me of my time in the in Navy in the early 70's hitting ports in the Med... This song is the way it was...

  • have ever contacted STD?

  • No.. But I ran into a BMF in Palma..

  • Waiting for the last liberty boat back to the ship , VillaFrance USN 1972.., about 6 AM, sun coming up... after an evening with the sweet painted ladies.. That's what the seagulls at the end remind me of..

  • @Gilk53

i heard GG gave u something to remember her by...and the GG stands for Guaranteed Ghonnorhea....good to know that my tax payer dollars went to soldiers like yourself who wasted their time and fucked whores...

  • @Gilk53 ... It was the same story, different sea for me... WestPac 70's & 80's.... song takes me back there every time....

  • Love this...Gettin paid for being laid, guess that's the name of the game.....

  • this kind of woman are nescessary for the society..

  • A very fine song from fat Reg.

  • You won't need a gutter to sleep in tonight...

  • Tonight anyway..!!
