I don't understand why Obama signed this. However, it was the Republicans pushing the bill and I guarantee you that any of the republican nominees including Ron Paul would have signed it as well. I'm thinking Obama was forced into this in order to get the payroll tax extension by the Republicans in the House.

I couldn't agree more. This bill is a rejection of human rights in favor of state's rights. Basically this bill, from what I've read and researched, is a massive step backwards socially. Returning America to a time before the country was even founded, a time were Royal command was law. Any bill or law that allows innocent people to held without charge for an indefinite amount of time is a human rights violation. Its finally happened, freedom is dead.

America just needs a republican president to be elected, then we'll be just as well off as Germany and the Soviet Union. Especially since all republican candidates (except Ron Paul, but hes more Libertarian.) are against separation of church and state, so we'll probably lose our religious freedoms first.

@creekrocker yeah. It starts relatively small (like warrant less wiretapping) then moves on to bigger things (like indefinite detention). It's always justified by using some common enemy of the people or some group the majority can focus on. By the time people start reaching the conclusion that it's gone too far, it's too late.
