  • What is the technique for cold casting a 2 piece that needs to be hollow. Do I rotate the model around with a high or low viscosity casting material. I've been looking for books and haven't found any in this area of cold casting

  • @ojed86 For a hollow cast you can mix bronze powder and ez flo like we do in this video and slosh it around to form a hollow shell. The bronze powder acts as a thickener for the resin. To add additiona thickness add more ez flo & bronze or add a layer of ez flo 120.

  • how "handy". tehee

  • Incredibly informative, helpful, and straight-forward. Easily understandable to a relative novice such as myself. Would you mind telling me which video I can watch to learn how to make the mold, like you have at the beginning of the video? I browsed through, but couldn't find it.

Love the channel, and love the videos. Keep it up, please!

  • @OWADesign There isn't a video of that exact mold but if you search "gel-10 1 piece mold" you will find other pieces we have done using the same process.

  • @brickintheyard Thanks! I found it right away.

I actually have a bit of a sticky wicket here. I have a project in mind, but a one-piece mold simply won't do (there are areas where the mold will need to wrap around and create semi-isolated areas - a one-piece wouldn't be able to do that).

I'll need to begin by casting it in alginate, this much I know. Then I was considering casting it in lightweight foam and making a final mold in two halves - but out of what? What would you recommend?

  • @OWADesign Call us and we can help you figure that out.

  • Since you're adding colour to the filler resin, would a white resin work just as well as the clear?

  • @bugsnbeetles Yes, you could use a white resin like EZ Flo 60 but you have to be carefull to make sure you have enough pigment and metal powder so no resin shows through. We have used EZ Flo 60 for cold cast in other videos but EZ Clear is a little easier to use for this process starting out since spots missed will just be black or brown rather than bright white resin or grey resin.

  • As with all your videos, very informative and nicely presented. I can't tell you how much your videos have helped me. Cheers!

  • ..please post vid on casting objects in plastic and viscosity...this process i am quite aware..direct burnout cool and expensive

  • Nice!

  • very instructive thanks to share with us

  • Hi Mitch!!! Recently i read your mold manifesto, thoes lines inspired me to try to be better, thanks a lot for all your videos, i learn so much with them!!! Have a nice day and greetings fom México!!!

  • @Eduardroid Thanks! Glad my manifesto did some good!

  • Really nice! I have a gorilla bust I need to cast and think your process would be perfect.

  • Ohh, I like that Dino sculpture! :)

  • Have you tried pouring the bronze powder into the mold first ? I've used this method with standard GRP. Not sure how it would work out with the fastcast resins. The silicone mold contains oil that grabs the powder. Shake and tap out the excess and re-use. Then add your coloured resin. No need for the 2 part pour. I would be interested to see the results using this method and fast casting resins.

  • @Dach101 We have tried it both ways. I have a video of the process you described that should be up soon. :)

  • @brickintheyard great, I'm just interested on the different use of materials , the bronze powder is quite expencive. If the different methods give similar results, one may use a lot less powder , and cut your budget. Thanks for the reply, looking forward to seeing the other vid.

  • @Dach101 OK, just posted the new video. You can find it on our channel page!

  • Nice digital hanger.
