  • you can see Prof's hand shaking at 1:17 . He might me feeling too cold ! lolzzz

  • Why does his hand shake ? is he going to be okay

  • alien clay... 140... corbomite

  • I love all your videos, and now I'm wondering whether if I email this facility I'll be able to buy me one of those ties. 44 year old stay at home mums can be geeks too!!

  • /Facepalm... back to the kitchen

  • i gotta get me some of those ties

  • brainiac :)

  • Do Photons/ Ephrons and phrotons travel in particles or waves?

  • thats 1 element closer to element 140 corbomite. UFO, Phillip Scneider said what U.S. stealth planes use :)

  • That tie is for pulling. ;)

  • Haha, i wonder if It'd work for me. Trying to explain that at a wedding could get tricky

  • Rockin' tie!

  • I think the lab is in Dusseldorf, but Heidelberg has a great lab, too. Plus, Mannheim has a huge Chemical plant where they store and destroy tons of stuff, and it's not far from where I live. Professor, if you come to Heidelberg, I'm totally taking you out for jaegerschnitzel and heffeweissen! :D

  • Prof. its time for some chelation. EDTA will help those shakes if they are from heavy metals. if parkinsons, sorry youre SOL.

  • Not really. There is a form of intracranial stimulation using electrodes and a pacemaker like device that can drastically reduce the worst shakes.

  • The shakes are from the heavy metals :(

It is the price we chemist pay. We are not just scientists we are ARTIST! Life without danger is not a life worth living.

Professor, I can't WAIT 'til you go to the institute in Germany! I only read about this kind of science!

  • Why's the professor's hand shaking so badly? Is he ill or is it just because he's old?

  • Stupid question...sigh

  • he might have like parkinsons or something so leave his hands alone

  • i want chemistry

  • Suitable for the Professor to teach in the video.

  • Cute tie.

  • hmmm .... it seems that the professor need to show off his tie at a night club. Or just his student for an opportunity to get a boost for their grades.

  • professor definitely wipes with his right wiggly hand

  • "You know the Germans make good stuff." -- Vince "ShamWow guy" Offer.

    That includes making good elements.

  • nice tie professor

hopefully you get one with the new element :)

oh and hey, do you believe in the 10th dimension? just a question. later!

  • i always hated science at school although your videos are very interesting, thanks!

  • jeez professor you gotta relax more, your hands are shaking very much haha

  • I dont think thats from nerves, he may have an illness :(

  • looking good bro

  • I saw the prof for the first time yesterday...his hair is so awesome lol

  • What a delight! I agree with the other posters: that's a handsome tie they sent you. It's not often you see a tie that's explicitly science-y and yet has a good sense of style about it.

And I don't know -- "Copernicium" is starting to grow on me!

  • beautiful tie :D

  • I dig the prof.

  • That is a mighty fine tie

  • I hope you make a video of your trip.

  • Awesome tie.

Not going to lie, the Professor was awfully shakey. Was it nerves? Does he do all his videos on the spot?

  • kinda but i think he fine

  • I don't know if he has nerves, he's a professor so I'd imagine he'd be used to giving speeches in front of large groups of people or cameras. Could be parkinsons? Hes a pretty old dude.

  • Some peoples hands as they get older just simply shake when they're trying to hold small or light objects, thats how it is. he probably won't shake holding a cup of tea but may do handling keys. not a big deal.

  • As long as he doesn't try holding a 100 year old, one of a kind, phonographic wax cylinder, he should be fine!

  • yeah i was thinking parkinsons too. tis a shame if he does :-(

  • arian el favor de tradusir sus videos a español de mexico o subtitulados porque nunca entiendo nada pero los esperimentos estan buenos

  • i want one! D:

  • sweet! Hope you get the tie with 112 on it though... as soon as they name it anyway.

  • Waiting STILL for his ACTION FIGUREEEE guysss.... get on it! NAAAAOO

  • Oooo where can you get those ties? I want one! :D

  • awesome!

  • Snappy tie!

  • I want one! Awesome.

  • Wow! That's love, man. Scientists UNTIE!

  • XD cool

  • nice :P

  • cool tie!

  • I want one : (

  • NICE TIE!

  • I'm concerned about those shaky hands.. i hope he was just nervous about being on camera

  • Can I have your old tie prof? I do school science displays in Ireland and it would go down a treat. Have had students mention to me about your post before and it would be great to be able to say I was wearing your old tie!

  • Ooh lala, shiny!

  • are you okay Professor? your hands are really shaky.

  • Huntingtons? Parkinsons?

  • Grow up. Shaky hands are hardly a rare thing

  • He means during chemical experiments...

  • Huntington's chorea?

  • I know, he's like 20 something and his hands are shaky.....

  • for many people that is just an eventual part of aging. he seems sharp as ever. I'm sure he is fine. :-D

    peace

  • I need one of those ties.

  • does he have parkinson or is he just excited? serious question no offence

  • He never mentioned having Parkinsons, I do remember one of his videos where he explains he likes to use his hands to emphasise what he is saying, and that he can't really keep his hands still ;>

  • Hahahahahahahaha!!!

    That's spectular!!!

    That's one rare tie. ;)

  • i wish you were my professor!

  • how nice of them!

  • Are you feeling well, professor? Your hand seems to be shaking a bit; this is a serious question.

  • i agree, are you okay Prof?

  • They always have

  • Maybe he was just so excited to get the new tie :D

    I'd be hand-shakingly happy, anyway!

  • What's the big deal with the hand shaking ?

I think is because he's just not young anymore, i've got a teacher who is quite like him in that sense, I that's why he's got some very bad handwritting

  • Rok on pretty sik nasty tie

    RgB

  • this tie will self decay in 10 seconds :)

  • His hand shake so much! lol Nice tie anyway though :)

  • This is so nice. My special thanks to all the researchers at the institute, and to our professor on youtube.

  • Videos from that institute with professor would be really great.

  • Damn it feels good to be a gangsta', don't it, Prof? Just mention on youtube you want a new tie and voila, there it is! ;)

  • How very nice of them to send you the tie.

  • cool tie!!

  • Ahh to see where these elements are being made yummm oh yes lets!

  • Nice tie!

  • And what a very nice tie it is. I hope you get to go and visit the Professor.....and also shoot a video of the event of course ;)

  • Love the tie Professor

  • The profs' hands were shaking so much o_o

Is he always like that or was he just nervous or something?

  • It's all the radioactive elements on the tie poisoning his hand :_)

  • always like that

  • always

  • YOU WON THE GAME!

  • theese periodic videos dont appear very periodically

  • I know I've said this probably twenty times already, but I LOVE these vids. It seems to have been a loooong time since the last one!

  • you're amazing!

  • Your a beast!!!Nice Tie!!!

  • You are my hero.

  • Great and congrats to your new tie, Professor Poliakoff!

  • Oh great! I'm so happy for you professor!

    Nice tie by the way!

  • Ha! awesome!

  • dear periodicvideos people.

i once saw that in one of your videos, on some african community you were showing the elements and changing their names to things the people there liked or dislike but not the real thing like "that yellow metalic rock is gold", isnt that awkwards?

  • Oh, how sweet! I'm glad you got spoiled with a lovely treat. :)

  • Although a German nerd, I haven't heard of the GSI before. They made Copernicium and also Roentgenium, Darmstadtium (duh), Meitnerium, Hassium and Bohrium everything between atomic numbers 107 and 112 within the past 30 years.

The GSI is a GmbH which means a private limited company. I'd have guessed they were tax-funded. I'd love to visit the facility (and sport an appropriate tie, of course) when Professor Poliakoff visits.

  • It's Darmstadtium, because the GSI is located in Wixhausen, which is a suburb of Darmstadt. I've been cycling around there a lot, but I've never been inside the facility. And Hassium, because it's the state of Hessen.

  • Cool!

Professor drinks too much coffee perhaps?

  • I saw it too :S Either looked very nervous or like he was having some sort of fit.

  • arms bit shacky ^^

  • I think it's cause he can't contain his excitement from receiving that tie. LOL.

    Great video :)

  • because he is so excited probably :p

  • I really appreciate these vids :)

    keep it up guys
