To those who dont undestand why so many fans like myself old FF7 in so much consideration, ill give a minute to explain. FF7 comes from the time where games were yet to loose their "wits" or "interest factor" to the high grafic capacity we now have, so all we could have was a great story.And the lack of grafics back in the day, made us use more our "imagination" rather than our eyes. The bad grafics were conpensated by great dialogs and storylines, that is the secret beyound FF7

and one further... the whole game worked together, the graphics weren't great (dumbbell arms, etc...) however, the music was chilling, or lighthearted depending on the scene...

the story was, as you stated compelling, mesmerizing, addicting!

The characters were relatible (in a sense, sure there were fantastic things, but all the same...)

and... honestly... for its time, the graphics were great... but... the mood was set by the graphics, the lighting was good...

This game truly was a masterpiece!

i have to disagree with you that all games werre lost to shiny new graphics like metal gear for instance one of the greatest game story's of all time with compelling antagonists and protagoist but its hard to choose ffvii over the metal gear seires for the sory though :(

I dunno, I like FFVII's plot a lot more. MGS felt too convoluted, with too many plot twists, which some made no sense at all. Though it was very suspenseful, though I prefer FFVII.

MGS does have an excellent plot too, and as does some of the other PS1 gems, such as Parasite Even, Chrono Cross and Xenogears.

I haven't played FFVII since that bastard is 60 bucks used. I DID love the MGS plot though, especially the ending! (good, i didn't beat the bad one yet, and I lent the game to my friend)

There were a shit of a lot of plot twists though, and too easy to spoil the game. Grey fox was the ninja, Naomi injects you with Foxdie, Foxdie kills Liquid and the DARPA chief impersonator, and all that. Too easy to spoil the game.

Though FFVII isn't too far off.
