  • RIP Bill...your soul was deep, as was your pain. I will miss you....sail on.

  • Bill's version was inspired by Dylan's performance of the traditional Handsome Molly on the bootleg "Gaslight Tapes." I had scored a copy of that bootleg (long before the record company issued Dylan's "bootlegs" as a series) and Bill and I spent a couple days in Chicago in the late 80s listening to the whole thing. He was really taken with Handsome Molly, and of course did his own beautiful thing with it. I also love the violins in the studio version but there is something haunting about thi

  • Followed his career from the 1970s, long before he'd cut an album, and when his only vehicle was his thumb (actually, he used his guitar case as a sign for destination). Thanks for all the music, brother. We love you, Bill.

  • Love this by Bill Morrissey. Unmistakeably his.

  • His best....love the violin on the recorded version of this..nice.

  • I put Bill Morrissey right up there with Springsteen, Mark Knopfler, and yes, even Dylan.

  • This song is one of his best I think.. Fantastic!

  • I've heard this done by at least a few dozen artists over the years. No one can touch Bill's arrangement.

  • Yeah, I know what you mean. "Handsome Molly" is a traditional song, but the only thing Bill kept is the title and some of the chorus. The rest is Bill.

  • Genius at work.... Thanks for posting this!

  • Yes, I didn't realize that it is actually a traditional folk standard, though Bill Morrissey has modified it wonderfully!

  • Amazing! Thank you so much. I love, love, love, love this song!!!
