A lot of people have critisised Dee but I have met her and she is a compassionate, caring, intelligent woman, who has saved many lives from eating disorders. She comes off quite cold sometimes in these videos but she's very kind and she'll sit down and talk with you in your bedroom while you're at rhodes farm, and listen to you, and not mention food or calories at all.
Rhodes Farm became part of Care UK’s portfolio of eating disorder services in February 2011 when full ownership was acquired from Dr Dee Dawson. With Rhodes Farm as part of Care UK, we now have a unique range of expertise and experience in eating disorders spanning acute care and rehabilitation. Our clinical governance systems and processes ensure delivery of high quality care in all our services and promote safety and continuous improvement.
Eating disorders are a symptom of much more deep seeded problems. It is unfortunate that women are still trying to reach equality. If only society, peers, and the media would accept women as they are!!
I went here when I was 10 and until I was 12. It was hell at first but it got better. I got better. I'm still a bit underweight but I'm healthy and happy. I can still have babies and I'm at no risk for osteoporosis all thanks to this place
i just can't stand this lady!! She just cares about being like here put food in front of them make them it it........ i have a lot of things i could ay to her and about her
@RainyBeloved if u working to feed the girl..u will do the same like she does... its her job to make sure these girls eat..its not easy for them to eat... i love this woman..
@MushroomLake LOL! That's kinda funny. I think the parents use a TAD too much butter--sweetcorn swimming in fat, then crumpets or whatever they were with massive yellow blobs in the middle...If anorexia won't kill the kid, she'll get a freaken heart attack anyway!
@GazettEfan77 Yeah, I hate it when people do that. They could've at least asked her to leave, so she wouldn't have been sitting there so freaken awkwardly.
You can tell someone with anorexia a million times to eat something and they will never do it. It's soooo much more complicated than just refusing to eat.
I really think they go about things in the completely wrong way... knw this was filmed a long time ago but the lady is speaking to the girls parents like she isn't even there... she should be adresigthe teennot ignoring her and talking to the parents
It's tragic how often people "helping" others haven't solved their own issues and are actually using the "patients" to keep feeling "good" about themselves.
I see severe communication problems of the adults with these kids. The adults strike me as dulled down, programmed, highly insensitive and I think to a large extent the kids are reacting to a complete spiritual void surrounding them.
...and the concept of organic or wholesome food doesn't even come up.
The lady's mousy voice is a bit more than I can bring myself to listen to. "Peep peep peep, oh my poor darling, why are you crying peep peep?"
Please. These kids should just be around healthy, wholesome people with common sense, empathy and some fulfilment in their lives, which is obviously the No1 problem for these anorexic kids: they live in a spiritual desert, ...
I think people helping kids with eating disorders shouldn't have one themselves.
The lady is clearly obese, which must make the anorexic kids CRINGE IN HORROR, as they are made to follow her example, no doubt made to feed on garbage, as she apparently does.
("No, no, FYI I have a thyroid malfunction", as the obese invariably reply).
Does any of these people helping anorexics know ANYTHING about food? It's all about sterile, soulless calorie-bookkeeping...
Especially that first phonecall!! "I think it would be good to motivate her with her artwork, so when she does go into a clinic, she has something to do in her spare time!" "I think it would be a good idea to put some weight on her."
"Why hasn't she put a plate infront of that child and said, eat it!" BECAUSE ITS NOT THAT FRIGGIN EASY! If that was the case, life would be easier for everyone. But its not. So shuttup!
this woman is sick. I'm so glad the study of eating disorders has gone more in depth. There is nothing less effective to an anorexic than to force feed them high calorie foods against their will. The key should be mental treatment, since anorexia is a MENTAL disease. Of course, their weight does need to be brought up, but not as if they are animals
it doesn't help when the women treating these girls are really fat themselves. its like sending the message that hey, "look at me i'm not a patient because I'm healthy looking like THIS."...
I'm just saying they are not the perfect picture of health either so its kind of hypocritical.
There talking about her like she is not even there ! first mistake... a weekend ha what is she talking about it dont work that way last mistake telling your daughter there getting chubby ! stupid mother
@RoteFedern, because I think that an overweight woman that has no genuine idea about what anorexia really is... That clearly makes me stupid, right? I'm sure you feel really proud of your clever little comment though.
i was very appalled by the statement the lady made in the beginning about an 18 year old not being high on their list when they had younger ones waiting, WAKE UP BITCH, EDs come in all ages, shapes, sizes and origins, ANYONE seeking help should be put on your list FAIRLY, thats what is wrong with some of these clinics discriminating against adults who suffer from ED
@RoteFedern yep, thats me the brutally honest bitch and PROUD of that title, dont like it, kiss my ass, fair is fair, who signs up first, gets first, thats how its suppose to roll.

@ashvariety Rhodes Farm is as adolescent Clinic, it's not that she's discrminating as such, it's just that the waiting lists are so busy and an 18 year old can go into an adult ED clinic-They usually take from 17 upwards.
I wonder if Dr. Dee Dawson realises that she is OVERweight? And that that is a problem also? As a former anorectic, there is no way I'd take her seriously.
@pacratt666 who cares what she looks like or how much she weighs, that is not the point, the point is that she is helping these girls she is making a difference
@pacratt666 the clinic has grown quite a bit and has a very high success rate of helping young girls and now boys suffering from disordered eating. As a current anorexic I take her willingness to help these girls very seriously. It's caring people like this women who innately understand how to reach out as she does who save lives.
@pacratt666 That's funny you should say that! I've watched quite a few of these anorexia documentaries, and the doctors and counsellors are often FAT! Like obese! Very disturbing.
Rhodes Farm has always employed therapists, however, there is no point in negotiating with a 6 stone teenager who knows exactly what to say and do to avoid eating. Low calorie 'healthy' food plays into the obsessive nature of anorexia; high fat foods are on the menu to add fat to the heart muscle and prevent death.
Why is it that whenever we see that the fu...... father does not show any emotion these men have a serious problem with having a healthy relationship with their daughters. They really seem like idiots.
@InfectedMurderFreak Which they need to get to a healthy weight and get some fat which is needed. After they get them to a healthy size they can work on what they eat. Eating healthy makes it harder to gain weight and fat.
@ArielDarkBlade69 They can eat healthy, high-calorie foods that are filled with good types of fats, like avocados, olive oil and different types of nuts. Because things like that WILL help you gain weight AND keep you healthy. Unlike the stuff these girls are being fed, which makes them gain but keeps them unhealthy. They're not getting the nutrients they need. That food isn't good for them.
I don't know why everyone's bashing Dee... it's a start, right? To get them to eat, is the most vital thing even before therapy, because they NEED weight on them before they die. The psycological stuff can wait until their body is healthy. As for putting a meal before them and saying "eat it", there are different responses you can get from that that determine what the actual psycological reaction to food is. That's important too.
from the first min i can tell Dr D doesn't give a shit about how patients feel and what they enjoy it's simply- "just get them to a healthy weight" then they're fine
When dr dee talks on the phone at the beginning to that lady it sounds like she's being rather rude to her but then I can see how children who are admitted there are probably serious cases and needing urgent care.
Na, she was alright, i was in there when i was 12 and most of us referred to people without EDs as "normal people" i still do!-, even though i'm more or less one of the "normal people" now
To be honest she sounds nicer than most anorexia therapists. When that girl was crying she was being very gentle with her instead of speaking sharply.
Allot of the therapist are really harsh towards people with anorexia, I remember when I was 3 years ago my therapist was just so mean towards me and my parents never knew.
It's the luck of the draw really -i've had consultants who, to be honest, should really not be in that job!!..... but i've also had a couple, who were really great. My last consultant was amazing, she was strict as f*ck,(although, you need that with this illness) but she was a really, really nice lady!!!She's the reason i'm in recovery now.
I don't think infertility is the most important issue, here. The issue is helping her to reconnect with what it feels like to be alive before she dies of heartbreak.
@TheMovingPiano14 I think in a home setting where a parent does so, it really doesn't work. Sometimes it can work in hospital units etc. after the person has decided that they want to try and recover, because it's like they have 'permission' to eat.. however I agree. Food isn't the solution, restricting is a symptom.
@TheMovingPiano14 Sometimes it is though. I have had anorexia and when someone actually forces you to eat something, for the moment when you are eating it, the guilt and control is removed. Yeah, it doesn't cure you. But sometimes what you have to do is just stop them from dying of starvation.
@fleurdesneiges99 I don't have children, but I wouldn't even consider it. If they are surrounded by these depressed food fearing people, chances are they get influenced. Not that they will automatically develop an eating disorder also, but I can't imagine it's a positive influence. So indeed a major mistake.
Oh god I thought the image with the fridge at the beginning and the dramatic music were part of the program! It was like "erm... what? :/" Luckily not though.
actuelly I know that she has great results at Rhodes Farm. I 'm writing my thesis about ED and I read about Rhodes Farm a lot. So, it seems to work.sorry for my English:)
She seems to have at least some effect on the patients, because 80% of the kids that go in there come out completely better, or mostly better. I've been anorexic since I was eight, however, & I find pediatric wards quite strict, despite what this woman says - you eat, or you get a nasogastric tube. Simple. Then again, this documentary is pretty old.
One documentary on Rhode's Farm I truly despised was 'Dana The 8 Yr Old Anorexic,' though. Have you seen it?
@angaralove this woman has made such a diffrence in girls lives you wouldnt even know! she may seem tuff and just bragging on about eating but her systme works trust me!
@angaralove some people are just good at what they do. if people didn't know better there wouldn't have been any progress made in medical treatments til today.
@angaralove Yeah and "typical why hasn't she put a 500 calorie meal infront of her and said eat it" not the typical approach I would go for. Like Dee would seriously think an anorexic is going to eat just like that!
@angaralove Exactly! Anorexia is all mental, only the visable effects are physical. Just because you fatten kids up, they can still be anorexic, no matter how health their body weight is. And she just dismisses it with "it might come back." Well why doesn't she STOP IT FROM COMING BACK AND SEND THEM TO A PSYCOLOGIST OR PSYCHIATRIST?! When someone is anorexic mentally, every single swallow of food is immesely difficult. So in way, what this woman is doing may just be making their condition worse!
@angaralove this was ages ago, when this disease was misunderstood. Now dee dawson is knowledgable and she now knows. but i do see where your coming from. x
A lot of people have critisised Dee but I have met her and she is a compassionate, caring, intelligent woman, who has saved many lives from eating disorders. Not that they will automatically develop an eating disorder also, but I can't imagine it's a positive influence. So indeed a major mistake.

It's strange how everybody talks about Katie as if she wasn't even in the room...

Oh god I thought the image with the fridge at the beginning and the dramatic music were part of the program! It was like "erm... what? :/" Luckily not though.

I think it was made around 1995-1997, since Rhodes Farm clinic has exsist for 14 years.

I think this lady knows nothing about eating disorders. "let me take them for the weekend and I will make them eat." It takes a lot more than that
angaralove 2 years ago 47
I completely agree with you. She does get them to eat, but for how long?
sodabeentjes 2 years ago
actuelly I know that she has great results at Rhodes Farm. I 'm writing my thesis about ED and I read about Rhodes Farm a lot. So, it seems to work.sorry for my English:)
limoge1976 2 years ago
She seems to have at least some effect on the patients, because 80% of the kids that go in there come out completely better, or mostly better. I've been anorexic since I was eight, however, & I find pediatric wards quite strict, despite what this woman says - you eat, or you get a nasogastric tube. Simple. Then again, this documentary is pretty old.
One documentary on Rhode's Farm I truly despised was 'Dana The 8 Yr Old Anorexic,' though. Have you seen it?
Leatherlyy 2 years ago 3
Can I ask why you despised it, out of curiosity? I too found it uncomfortable to watch.
thealba 2 years ago
Same question as below.
I did see it, but didn't despie it.
I thought it was very sad.
sodabeentjes 2 years ago
@Leatherlyy
Dana was a very smart kid who knew what she was doing to get attention. She said it herself that she felt a lack of attention. So 1 and 1 makes 2.

@angaralove this woman has made such a diffrence in girls lives you wouldnt even know! she may seem tuff and just bragging on about eating but her systme works trust me!
vampydude 1 year ago
@angaralove Do you also realise how old this is? lol I'm sure there have been developments since then :P
SgtPepperGirl 1 year ago
@angaralove some people are just good at what they do. if people didn't know better there wouldn't have been any progress made in medical treatments til today.
RoteFedern 1 year ago
@angaralove
Of course it does take a lot more! I think she just really wanna help the soft way but it's not reality about how to help them.
fleurdesneiges99 1 year ago
@angaralove Yeah and "typical why hasn't she put a 500 calorie meal infront of her and said eat it" not the typical approach I would go for. Like Dee would seriously think an anorexic is going to eat just like that!
faithoffaith 1 year ago
@faithoffaith she wanted to have a strong confermation that the girl was anorexic.
JESSsuckItTV 1 year ago
@angaralove she said "I will have them eating." by this she means she will give them the help they need to have a healthy relationship with food.
JESSsuckItTV 1 year ago
@angaralove Exactly! Anorexia is all mental, only the visable effects are physical. Just because you fatten kids up, they can still be anorexic, no matter how health their body weight is. And she just dismisses it with "it might come back." Well why doesn't she STOP IT FROM COMING BACK AND SEND THEM TO A PSYCOLOGIST OR PSYCHIATRIST?! When someone is anorexic mentally, every single swallow of food is immesely difficult. So in way, what this woman is doing may just be making their condition worse!
DimSimToughBitch 1 year ago
@angaralove this was ages ago, when this disease was misunderstood. Now dee dawson is knowledgable and she now knows. but i do see where your coming from. x
