@dooda197 Yes he is, but many of his tricks arent really "real", they are just tricks, designed to fool you. He openly admits he lies for a living, and at the start of most of his shows he explains he uses MISDIRECTION, magic (which is ALL lies), suggestion, and showmanship. He is telling you that if it looks impossible, its because he fooled you into believing the impossible
The ball isnt floating. Its sitting on a pedastall. Why would he need split screen the day after he predicted them right. The advert was showing the correct prediction the day after.
The media's opinions split screens, lasers, special balls are completely ridiculous.
If the 39 ball rose in mid air during the supposed 'split screen' switch, then why does it not fall back down when Derren touches the ball as he is moving them about a bit after revealing the balls?
And also, if it really were a split screen switch, surely the ball would have jumped up the very next movie-frame instead of slowly rise up? That suggests the other balls pushed it up. For split screen, the ball would have had to jump up.
@Deppgal01, he wants to make us think of snow flakes which after all he is just hiding a message that can be decoded as "So Fake" (SnOw FlAKE = SO FAKE). Okay maybe what I wrote is absurd but it's quite interesting since the prediction was completely fake. hehehe

But it explains why he didn't give the numbers before... so stop asking for that explanation! Obviously people pay no attention.
Supposidely no one is allowed to announce lottery numbers on television before the BBC draw. So if he did state his prediction and then it was correct, that would have caused all kinds of crap for him and channel 4.

@mikilan look, derren brown is known for his misdirection and manipulating peoples actions and THIS was the main point of this "trick". not to predict the lottery numbers. anyone in video editing can spot the splice he does in the video where he chops the screen in half and has an assistant replace the balls and then they remove the splice right when he begins to walk to the balls. he was able to trick millions of people into thinking he predicted the lotto and the trick involved intense timing

Some newspapers have speculated that the snowflake is a secret message. Many video experts and insiders refer to a special effects/camera trick on TV/film as a 'snowflake job'. Many have also expressed their opinion that is could easily have been a split-screen camera/live editing trick. If this is the case, then the snowflake could have been a secret nod to insiders how he really did it.
If you study the advertisment that Derren made for the events that was mirrored and played in reverse you will be able to see the lottery numbers on the lampost that he passes, meaning he new what the numbers would be weeks before those people 'predicted' the numbers. It is impossible for anyone to predict that information, he placed the numbers in the groups mind using suggestion and neuro linguistic programming, but I do not know how he got the numbers originally.
Personally, I am not 100% convinced with his explanation, there is certainly more going on here than we are allowed by him to know about. If he wanted to cover his back, then he should have kept all the paperwork the did the predictions off for reference.
There is 'Order in Chaos' - an indisputable fact .
But, be realistic, he had 45 mins to do a show including re-caps. You really think you would get the FULL answer in 45 mins?
But then, it's his trick... his prerogative what to do with it.
I've seen sooo many explanations on here .. a lot of smart asses are dissing Derren Brown, but for my money, he is head and shoulders above any other illusionist or magician, his stunts just get better and better. .. i mean, .. predicting the lottery live, c,mon!!! HOW COOL IS THAT!!! DERREN ROCKS!!!
It was a split screen what they did is kept one camera angle on him an whislt the other part the park with the balls in they made the screen frezze aand be all still, there was some one putting in the balls from the lotto so it was all fake.
i know exactly how this is done, .. if you notice very closely, you will see that Derren is miked up to Satan, .. Satan feeds him the numbers via a live feed. Once the stunt is complete Derren has sold his soul to the devil. Personally, i wouldn't risk what he did. Lucifer is a bad dude.
what a load of plop - like the guy will thought C4 might let a knife go threw his foot. he is as bad as the other guy who used to pretend to bend spoons.
Ok I've studied this and have come to the conclusion that no camera trickery is involved. The camera used is a shoulder cam which constantly has movement and because of the brick background no green screen could have been used. Because of the background and camera -not being a tripod- means that no camera trick could be used. I believe it is something to do with the fact that his prediction is on mimic lottery balls, why? why not just display them in the traditional envelope.
There is some thing that is called automated shake, that can be made quite easily in for instance After Effects. This would mean that it COULD be possible to create an automatic shake on a live camera and sync that with a split screen.
If you think the mechanical movement of that camera (just watch it) is actually the movements from being handheld then you are an idiot.
The left-most ball moves quite clearly as they transition the feeds; it's obvious and I don't know why anybody is even considering other possibilities.
So you believed his explanation? You actually think that all you need to do is get 25 people together to win the fucking lottery? ARE YOU SERIOUS?
Mongs like you are the kind of people he was aiming his explanation at - the gullible retards!
There's gonna be quite a few disappointed groups of 25 idiots out there this Saturday when they all fail miserably. Then they'll just think they did it wrong, because it can't possibly be that an ILLUSIONIST didn't give away his trick, can it?
It wasn't 25 people PREDICTING the numbers, but 25 people doing a form of 'Sub-Conscious Computation' (it's well documented). Our brains are incredibly powerful 'difference engines', theoretically more powerful than ANY supercomputer in exsistance or design.
I can see your problem, your pissed that he didn't provide a simple A to B solution, but gave one which requires a lot of prep, and pre-knowledge.
There is truth in what he says. Actually bother to look at 'Chaos Theory' before you judge.
for him to get the number 2 everyone of the 25 people would of had to predict 1,2 or 3 for that ball. if anyone picked a number higher he wouldn't of got the prediction 2 so it was not that method at all. he either fixed the machine as he said or did it some other way. the "sub-conscious computation" cannot work for this random set of data
OMG Read my reply i said that he fixed the fucking machine you fucking R-Tard. i don't believe he predicted the lottory nor do i believe he can pick out winners in horse races, his show on friday was to tell us how he did it he gave 3 possible ways of doing it so unless he is a fucking deity and can manipulate probability, so rub those fist full of brain cells you have together and maybe just maybe you will come to a conclusion.
and no camelot would not LET him do it but it dosen't mean it can be done but it makes more sense then trying to splice 2 images together im a 2 second time frame
Oh I see. Derren Brown managed to fix the outcome of something which is guarded like fort knox. Sorry, I should have known. Why don't you open your eyes you fucking moron. I bet you think 9/11 was a conspiracy too, don't you? And we didn't land on the moon either!
Splicing 2 images together is technically very simple and video experts have already said this is how it was done, but yeah, your explanation is much more plausible.
oh yea people saying they are video experts on the internet by the way i forgot to mention im the king of birmingham you believe that to, no ??? but i suppose you know loads of video experts dont you . ah well you win this arugment. there, is that better your e-penis has just grown en extra couple of inches congrats you can sit back and relax on your high horse all hail 1BretUK1 king of the you tube trolls
The left ball does clearly rise a few mm, but this is not proof that the balls were switched, it could have just been the shift in camera angle making the ball appear that it'd risen.
I personally think Derren is too much of a clever man to have been reduced to camera trickery. He is a psychological illusionist remember, that is his passion, not technological illusion.
This is how he does it! It's simply a split-camera technique. So just a camera trick in the end!
If you look closely on a big screen you will see that the six white balls throughout the first part of the broadcast are all in an even line and ironically there is a line of black bricks on the wall behind which acts like a ruler.
Now after the last ball has been dropped if you look very carefully you can see that the ball on the left end has become slightly raised against the others and against the black bricks on the wall behind.
When Derren Brown turns the tray around you can clearly see that the ball on the end (now the right end) which is number 39 is slightly higher than the others as it has not been placed in the tray properly.
The apparent semi-success of the 24 members of the group predicting previous lotteries is another independent scam to give some sort of false explanation for the prediction.
So TWO scams together and the whole thing nothing more than a conjuring trick to mislead and misdirect people - and play on their greed and gullibility!
Type in derren brown's lottery trick - possible solution to see Internet Animator Cyriak show you how its done!
How he actually done it was that the left side of the picture was superimposed onto the screen, whilst an assistant put the balls on the rack as the numbers came up. Then when it was done, they put it back to the real picture and he turns it round, pretending like he's some kind of amazing magician. What gives it away, like most people have said, is the ball on the left is slighty higher than the rest
it doesn't matter how he did it to be honest. Just people talking about it now, the people behind keyboards who think they are experts in this or think there being "logical" means he has done his job brilliantly maybe its more about the aftermath rather than the actual trick itself.
If you saw his show "The System" this is exactly what he does. for instance with the coin thing.
He flips a coin for hours to try and get 10 heads in a row. And only shows the 10 heads in a row on TV, not telling us the hours he spends flipping the coin.
This is because the trick is more exciting if we dont know the lame way he does it.
This is probably how he has done the event. A really simple process, but mislead everyone with the snowflake.
Its funny that there are so many people saying its utter bullshit... but how many of them are going to watch the next event, and the one after that, then the one after that. It makes good tv, who cares how he did it
He is simply amazing at what he does... even if he didnt guess the numbrs right, look how many people and different ideas hes got going round. Hes brilliant.
I love how so many people here get angry because they don't know how Derren did it. We all know it's a trick of some kind but not knowing how it was done is part of the fun, some of you need to chill out.
It's just a conjuring trick - the wisdom of the crowds is a red herring. Using diversionary tactics is what illusionists do. Just ask, why was the prediction not shown immediately before the draw rather than afterwards? These type of tricks all work via sleight of hand or other trickery. Notice that the various delaying tactics before the reveal? The real trick happened in that interval.
His alternative of rigging the machine is a much more credible approach than the "wisdom of crowds".
Of course it's not illegal for him to give his predictions before the draw. It's no more illegal for him to do so than it is for me to tell anybody my predictions should I be stupid enough to do the damn thing. It's just feeble an erroneous excuse to cover up the fact that he did not, and never did predict the correct numbers. It's an illusion - just a magic trick, and whoever said that Derren Brown had to tell the truth...
ill get thumbs down for all this but the side with the balls was frozen, the camera shake is just a cheap digital effect to throw you off. at the beginning, the long shot to prove theres a second camera. why is this shot only used once? this few seconds of film is pre-recorded, again to throw you off. to show you that the camera infront of derren is man operated, when its not. cheap camera tricks. led us up the garden path. disappointed. the wisdom of crowds theory was rubbish , think about it.
i really wanted to believe in the wisdom of the crowd idea, but the more i think about it, the less it makes sense. one of the numbers was two. that would mean the 24 people would have to only make predictions adding up to 48. very unlikely.
this is how he really did it
i feel cynical going with the idea, but it makes much more sense. the snowflake represents freezing i think we were all drawn in, and in the end it was just an elaborate camera trick D:
Actually watch his shows, he never pretends that he is pyshic, or he is "superhuman", if he makes you by the end think how did he do it, either by rigging the machine or using the 24 people he has done a bloody brilliant job. He perdicted the lottery perfect no matter how he did it, he did it.
he did not predict the lottery he used split screens which he does suggest at the end of the lottery episode. he says it was a trick. this does not make him a fake. he has fuelled debates across the nation. that was his aim, and he succeeded :)

Well its clear he had very little equipment going by the fact he had only 2 Camera men and they did a wide shot of the room. Which was empty.
If there were more people and objects in the room they would have all had to be wearing all green, all over... so they could be edited out.
And to edit at such a massive level Live would be near enough impossible without a blockbuster style budget.
Its hard enough to edit such things even when you have Post-Production time. Let alone in Live Real Time.

BoktheExpert 2 years ago

What is the point of the Christmas Star??
Did he... Reflect light off it to distract us and then switch the numbers? (Yes I am being sarcastic)
Maybe it'll be in one of the later episodes

It was a split screen what they did is kept one camera angle on him an whislt the other part the park with the balls in they made the screen frezze aand be all still, there was some one putting in the balls from the lotto so it was all fake.

Camera trick, if you look very closely you will see the ball on the very left move upwards.
mw2newbie 2 years ago
wot a prick
topwesthamboy1 2 years ago
i know exactly how this is done, .. if you notice very closely, you will see that Derren is miked up to Satan, .. Satan feeds him the numbers via a live feed. Once the stunt is complete Derren has sold his soul to the devil. Personally, i wouldn't risk what he did. Lucifer is a bad dude.
GOOD TRICK THOUGH.

strawwoodclaw 2 years ago
Ok I've studied this and have come to the conclusion that no camera trickery is involved. The camera used is a shoulder cam which constantly has movement and because of the brick background no green screen could have been used. Because of the background and camera -not being a tripod- means that no camera trick could be used. I believe it is something to do with the fact that his prediction is on mimic lottery balls, why? why not just display them in the traditional envelope.
Worble 2 years ago
There is some thing that is called automated shake, that can be made quite easily in for instance After Effects. This would mean that it COULD be possible to create an automatic shake on a live camera and sync that with a split screen.
acolyt3 2 years ago
If you think the mechanical movement of that camera (just watch it) is actually the movements from being handheld then you are an idiot.
The left-most ball moves quite clearly as they transition the feeds; it's obvious and I don't know why anybody is even considering other possibilities.

1BertUK1 2 years ago
did you watch the show??? let me know so i can put a stop to your ignorance
Tombassplayer 2 years ago
So you believed his explanation? You actually think that all you need to do is get 25 people together to win the fucking lottery? ARE YOU SERIOUS?
Mongs like you are the kind of people he was aiming his explanation at - the gullible retards!
There's gonna be quite a few disappointed groups of 25 idiots out there this Saturday when they all fail miserably. Then they'll just think they did it wrong, because it can't possibly be that an ILLUSIONIST didn't give away his trick, can it?
BertUK59 2 years ago
It wasn't 25 people PREDICTING the numbers, but 25 people doing a form of 'Sub-Conscious Computation' (it's well documented). Our brains are incredibly powerful 'difference engines', theoretically more powerful than ANY supercomputer in exsistance or design.
I can see your problem, your pissed that he didn't provide a simple A to B solution, but gave one which requires a lot of prep, and pre-knowledge.
There is truth in what he says. Actually bother to look at 'Chaos Theory' before you judge.
TheKuriIchi 2 years ago
for him to get the number 2 everyone of the 25 people would of had to predict 1,2 or 3 for that ball. if anyone picked a number higher he wouldn't of got the prediction 2 so it was not that method at all. he either fixed the machine as he said or did it some other way. the "sub-conscious computation" cannot work for this random set of data
jkay4182 2 years ago
OMG Read my reply i said that he fixed the fucking machine you fucking R-Tard. i don't believe he predicted the lottory nor do i believe he can pick out winners in horse races, his show on friday was to tell us how he did it he gave 3 possible ways of doing it so unless he is a fucking deity and can manipulate probability, so rub those fist full of brain cells you have together and maybe just maybe you will come to a conclusion.
Tombassplayer 2 years ago
and no camelot would not LET him do it but it dosen't mean it can be done but it makes more sense then trying to splice 2 images together im a 2 second time frame
Tombassplayer 2 years ago

TheEvilExeCommunity 2 years ago
The left ball does clearly rise a few mm, but this is not proof that the balls were switched, it could have just been the shift in camera angle making the ball appear that it'd risen.
I personally think Derren is too much of a clever man to have been reduced to camera trickery. He is a psychological illusionist remember, that is his passion, not technological illusion.
Catlover123445 2 years ago
Snowflake - so fake?
ashabashabooboo 2 years ago
Part 1:
This is how he does it! It's simply a split-camera technique. So just a camera trick in the end!
If you look closely on a big screen you will see that the six white balls throughout the first part of the broadcast are all in an even line and ironically there is a line of black bricks on the wall behind which acts like a ruler.
leonskie1 2 years ago
Part 2:
Now after the last ball has been dropped if you look very carefully you can see that the ball on the left end has become slightly raised against the others and against the black bricks on the wall behind.
When Derren Brown turns the tray around you can clearly see that the ball on the end (now the right end) which is number 39 is slightly higher than the others as it has not been placed in the tray properly.
leonskie1 2 years ago
Part 3:
Therefore the balls at the end of the broadcast are NOT the same set as the ones at the start.
So split-camera effect (with artificial camera-shake) and a magician's assistant (with NO studio audience present) are the solution.
The arrival at the prediction is therefore irrelevant as the balls have simply been swapped during the live show.
leonskie1 2 years ago
Part 4:
The apparent semi-success of the 24 members of the group predicting previous lotteries is another independent scam to give some sort of false explanation for the prediction.
So TWO scams together and the whole thing nothing more than a conjuring trick to mislead and misdirect people - and play on their greed and gullibility!
Type in derren brown's lottery trick - possible solution to see Internet Animator Cyriak show you how its done!
leonskie1 2 years ago

LightingRyan 2 years ago
yep his lucky to have a big brain
RAGSTAluvsDA90z 2 years ago
Thats exactly what Derren does. Bang on.
A really simple process, but mislead everyone with the snowflake.

show us it before the resuts u dick!
and there is no legal restriction with announcing numbers 827336!
Jemeela 2 years ago
It's just a conjuring trick - the wisdom of the crowds is a red herring. Using diversionary tactics is what illusionists do. Just ask, why was the prediction not shown immediately before the draw rather than afterwards? These type of tricks all work via sleight of hand or other trickery. Notice that the various delaying tactics before the reveal? The real trick happened in that interval.
His alternative of rigging the machine is a much more credible approach than the "wisdom of crowds".

-.-
It's illegal for him to show the numbers before the lotto numbers are read, if you listened to him.
Lewisno7 2 years ago
I think it is because that we can buy the same numbers after he showed us???
aclkwok 2 years ago
Of course it's not illegal for him to give his predictions before the draw. It's no more illegal for him to do so than it is for me to tell anybody my predictions should I be stupid enough to do the damn thing. It's just feeble an erroneous excuse to cover up the fact that he did not, and never did predict the correct numbers. It's an illusion - just a magic trick, and whoever said that Derren Brown had to tell the truth...
jonessg3 2 years ago
Yes but its fairly obvious hes going to get it right if it was just a guess then fair enough but everybody knows he will gt them right

ill get thumbs down for all this but the side with the balls was frozen, the camera shake is just a cheap digital effect to throw you off. at the beginning, the long shot to prove theres a second camera. why is this shot only used once? this few seconds of film is pre-recorded, again to throw you off. to show you that the camera infront of derren is man operated, when its not. cheap camera tricks. led us up the garden path. disappointed. the wisdom of crowds theory was rubbish , think about it.
adfro7 2 years ago 5
i really wanted to believe in the wisdom of the crowd idea, but the more i think about it, the less it makes sense. one of the numbers was two. that would mean the 24 people would have to only make predictions adding up to 48. very unlikely.
this is how he really did it
i feel cynical going with the idea, but it makes much more sense. the snowflake represents freezing i think we were all drawn in, and in the end it was just an elaborate camera trick D:

Actually watch his shows, he never pretends that he is pyshic, or he is "superhuman", if he makes you by the end think how did he do it, either by rigging the machine or using the 24 people he has done a bloody brilliant job. He perdicted the lottery perfect no matter how he did it, he did it.
