True, but his back was airbourne, and he was heading for the wall. There was probably a chance that his wreck would've looked a lot like Bobby Allison's wreck here a number of years back. It's hard to say. It did look like he might've come down before the car hit the wall/fence, but then again, maybe not.

NASCAR is doomed, Chevrolet has no business taking our tax money and being involved in NASCAR in any way. And Ryan is right, this ain't racing at all!
That cot car must have not gotten tested for what happens if the car is going backwards at 180+. The ass end is concaved and the wing design creates uplift when airflow comes from the back. Both help the car get into the air and take off. Nascar is definetly going in the wrong direction here
at first when u see the quick glance at the car in the air in the beginning, i thought it was carl edwards...but Newman and Mark Martin who flipped after this are my 2 favorites and I was pissed.
Not often the roof pinches in on your head. Neman is lucky the greenhouse on the COT had the extra 3-4 inches of headroom. Still, NASCAR should add another roll bar to help that from pinching in so much because it seems to be a problem with the COT cars not landing on all 4.
Very nice to see Newman be okay after that wreck. I mean cutting the roof off was definitely the way to go. Newman is a bigger guy as it is to other drivers (6 foot tall, approx 190 pounds) and the roof was caved in a bit so I mean not a lot of room for him to just climb out either way. As much as I hate the COT's, I love the safety. Had than been the 80's, Newman wouldnt be racing the rest of the year with injuries due to the wreck.
It seems like the COT causes more flips at tracks other than the usual Talladega and Daytona. We've had 3 restrictor plate flips this year, but since the implementation of the COT, there've been flips at Texas, California, and Dover as well
I think you can get more air under that wing than you could the old spoiler. Mark Martin flipped after getting turned abrubtly, which NASCAR can't control. Carl and Ryan both got blown over. Yeah, the new car's more prone to flipping, I believe. If that's the case, though, I like the COT! As long as the driver's safe, I love seeing flips.
Man I would have loved to see an in-car camera on Harvicks car!

newman's speech that day helped bring about the "boys, have at it" that we saw this year
this year's talladega races had 88 and 87 lead changes, respectively.

compared to f1 or le mans it's pretty weak, although I'm sure chevy is making more money off NASCAR than it is spending on it

It would've been VERY FUNNY if after his crew chief said "Are you okay?" if he said "Yes! NOW FLIP THIS DAMN CAR OVER!!!" LMAO
