Being Alive is not meant to be sung in this manner. It's a life-altering revelation, not a fun jazzy tune about love. The song loses all its emotional impact this way.

That a song ending a cynical show about a profoundly lonely man trying to deal with his commitment issues, constructed out of a previous song (Happily Ever After) that ripped through the concept of marriage as a false ideal that made you miserable, with lyrics like "Somebody hold me too close / somebody hurt me too deep" and "make me alive / make me confused / mock me with praise / let me be used / vary my days" could possibly lose meaning being performed as fun? That's BS?

My mom bought her album home after seeing the movie "A Star is Born" us kids listened to that album until we wore it out! (the only black kids blasting Streisand in the 70's in our neighborhood) LOL!!

Got a little older and discovered "Yentyl" loved it! war out THAT Cd (it's all on my Mp3 ) haven't started looking into these "standards until recently, and I tell ya, I know I'm getting more mature because my taste in music has changed drastically and I can now appreciate great music like this!

@atlasshrugged2u I love your comment and I can relate. I was the other black kid blazing Babs in the 70's. When I heard Stoney End I remember thinking, "...who is this dame?" That's when my stalking began. I think it's just a testament that pure, God given talent transcends all races, religions, ages, social classes, etc. I'm certain there was, and still is, a diverse group of folks listening to Streisand...just maybe not as loud as you and I. But, as my granny used to say, "I ain't shame!"

Bullshit. Ms. Streisand wouldn`t have sung it if she didn`t have the feeling for it. What I see is time constraint. They were trying to get a lot in before starting the second act on New Years Eve 1999! Hence, the phenomenal background effects. Turn of the Century. Let`s see you pull it off.

i love barbra more than one should , have every thing she ever did and more , but i have to admit i didn't like this concert at times. I felt her verbrato seemed off , but in saying that i was at the sydney concert and it didn't sound the same. so maybe it was pressure of the 1st couple of concerts and trying to hard,age or something else who can say. everyone has there off day i guess.

the woman was 58 here... can u imagine what would be left of mariah's, celine's or whitney's (that last one is already gone...) at that age? i fell in love with these songs when i heard Barbra sing it in this concert so i think it was FABULOUSLY done. She seemed more in her zone and relaxed in this concert than the one from 1994. BRAVO

Please Celine has the most consistant and powerful vocals and her voice is as good as ever and amazing vocal endurance (700 sold out shows in Vegas) and 2 world tours not to mention that she is back in Vegas, no other singer has Celine's vocal range and endurance, trust me Celine will still blow everyone away when she hits 58 years of age.

As for Whitney you are right unless a miracle happens will her vocal cords, she will disappear for good, it's sad though cause in the 80's she was considered to be on her way as one of the best ever, not too tragic when you consider that she has dozens of millions of dollars to support herself with for the rest of her life if she can't sing anymore

Barbra's ability to interpret her own renditions of her recordings in such an uncanny way while all the time remaining an artist with a chance of the unexpected flourish or improvisation on a note and not the exact recording. She makes it through this song just fine, and in the recorded history of Barbra's live concerts, this is a natural progression of where that artist would be when say, you compare it to the live recording in Central Park - it' a beautiful sight to have beheld and watched...
