  • its 'Io not i'o

  • Guys...they said this color variety is found in the Kona region only. Of course there are all types of Io island wide.

  • @squidman22 . Yes, these "golden" i'o seem to be on west side of Big Island in Kona-area. Specifically, the Hienaloli drainage area directly above Kona. We have seen a number of these color variants, as you say, in the area just above Kona. There is indeed a wide range of "light phase" and "dark phase" i'o, ( in fact, we have one of each who are resident at the Sanctuary) but the very striking "golden" birds seem to be found in Kona area. I have photos of a few different, wild "golden" birds.

  • 3rr u r a blessing to the island ..it means alot when you help our natives back to health. mahalo for nursing and freeing pueo o' waimea. thanks for looking out!

  • Yes.. there are i'o all over the Big Island. We are in Kona but have an i'o here that came from Honoka'a. Not sure what the newscaster/we said that was "wrong". Thanks for clearing up any confusion...as I said, there are indeed i'o in all districts on Big Island.
