I do have to say, I think gay teens should come out, it all depends on their situation. If you're in a small Texas town full of religious wackos, you should most likely wait. If you're in San Francisco... no one will be surprised. Coming out can be a very painful process, so one must do that when they are ready, depending on individual situations.
I always beat the crap out of bullies, but in high school I was a 1st degree black belt in Tae-Kwon-Do with extensive training in Hapkido so that worked better for me then most lol. For the girls, just go get it like Woody said. I made that mistake of standing around and I found out during my senior year that 75% of both cheerleading squad's wanted to go out with me, but I never asked :( Which sucked because ALL of them were freaking gorgeous. At least I went out with some of them after this.

MOST importantly- from what I've seen- don't be artificial. Don't try to be someone who you're not, because high schoolers are extremely judgmental, and they WILL view you that way. So PLEASE just be yourself, no matter what you think is cool, because you will enjoy high school so much more that way.
Be sincere, be nice, and study hard. If you get involved and do things (instead of sitting at home playing games all day), you will love life. I know I did.
Let me say this as a senior looking back- people who try to be popular/cool won't be. Be nice, and make friends, and you will become popular. Go out of your way to say hi to people, and don't try to ignore people because you're in a different social group, or you think they'll embarrass you in front of your friends.

Another comment bout playing a sport - be careful how you measure success. I joined the swim team as a senior in high school, and I wasn't a strong swimmer. To compare myself to the other seniors (who had been swimming for years) would have been a mistake. On the other hand, I didn't want to compare myself to the junior high (JV) kids... even though our times were fairly similar. So here's how I measured success: I looked at MY previous best times, and tried to beat those times.
I don't get movies and how they show that kids get beat up all the time. I don't think it's real. Like it might just be me, but in my school, there are like no bullies. I'm in 10th grade at a public school with about 2500-3000 students. There are just different groups that people are in. Almost everyone talks to or has friends in other groups. Every group or whatever, can be nice. But every person either talks to or doesn't talk to someone. People don't get involved with other people otherwise.

@Geepgeep567 i am a freashman and im on varsity hockey. i am 5'7" and i am TINY next to all of those monsters. You need to practice on getting fast because you are so small. It will help a lot
@RagingSeattleite well that fits my category just about so I'll try and help you out as much as I can. Swimming might be a bit difficult to manage since it does require a bit of body mass (not much but it does have some importance). I can't say much for field unfortunately... So it really depends on some of your skills. Soccer requires strategy and planning (at least before the game starts anyways, since it tends to fail in the midst of everything), reflexes, and knowing when to take it easy.
@RagingSeattleite I ran out of room so I'm just continuing :P track, on the other hand, requires less strategy (in my opinion anyways), endurance, knowing your limits and how fast you run (this is also another important factor for soccer but you don't have to be Speedy Gonzales since there are several positions that don't require you to be fast all the time). But honestly, it really depends on which out of the four you enjoy (cheesy but true). Hope all of this helps and good luck! :)

I'm a sophomore and I make people laugh all the time by making sarcastic jokes about myself. I also make sarcastic jokes about other people but you have to be careful about that, they know I'm just joking around and when they turn it on me I go with the flow and make fun of myself as well. It's a good way to let people know you don't take most things too seriously, which makes you easier to get along with in their eyes.

Let me say this as a senior looking back- people who try to be popular/cool won't be. Be nice, and make friends, and you will become popular. Go out of your way to say hi to people, and don't try to ignore people because you're in a different social group, or you think they'll embarrass you in front of your friends.
Most importantly, forget about others' expectations and what's considered "cool". Be nice and friendly (but not weird), and you'll be cool.

Another comment bout playing a sport - be careful how you measure success. I joined the swim team as a senior in high school, and I wasn't a strong swimmer. To compare myself to the other seniors (who had been swimming for years) would have been a mistake. On the other hand, I didn't want to compare myself to the junior high (JV) kids... even though our times were fairly similar. So here's how I measured success: I looked at MY previous best times, and tried to beat those times.

I don't get movies and how they show that kids get beat up all the time. I don't think it's real. Like it might just be me, but in my school, there are like no bullies. I'm in 10th grade at a public school with about 2500-3000 students. There are just different groups that people are in. Almost everyone talks to or has friends in other groups. Every group or whatever, can be nice. But every person either talks to or doesn't talk to someone. People don't get involved with other people otherwise.

the highschool sports director came 2 my school and i signed up 4(or just to get info and think about trying)baseball,tennis and football.but my freinds say no dont try it your way to small and your gonna get killed but im 115 pounds of muscle mostly and im 5'7 tall and slim.should i try and not care.my pov is that ill grow alot too im 13 only.people think im small and puny and dont consider me.even my coaches in sports.it pisses me off and im good too

um woody, inasked a girl out and i got rejected. i was upset because i was hanging out with her alot and i think i may have messed up because i'm pretty sure i'm in the friend zone when i asked her. my buddy told me and this one girl we should date because we are alike. she is good looking but i;m nervous because i don't want to be stuck in the friend zone. i'm not sure if i should ask her soon or to wait. my gut tells me i should ask her. but i'm sort of scared of being rejected. @modernwarfarezack find out what you are good at. If you like to run, then try being a running back, if you like contact, be a defender or blocker. Ask your dad to help you find out what you would be good at. Then train for a bit to meet the standard of whatever position you choose.

@RagingSeattleite well that fits my category just about so I'll try and help you out as much as I can. Swimming might be a bit difficult to manage since it does require a bit of body mass (not much but it does have some importance). I can't say much for field unfortunately... So it really depends on some of your skills. Soccer requires strategy and planning (at least before the game starts anyways, since it tends to fail in the midst of everything), reflexes, and knowing when to take it easy.

@RagingSeattleite I ran out of room so I'm just continuing :P track, on the other hand, requires less strategy (in my opinion anyways), endurance, knowing your limits and how fast you run (this is also another important factor for soccer but you don't have to be Speedy Gonzales since there are several positions that don't require you to be fast all the time). But honestly, it really depends on which out of the four you enjoy (cheesy but true). Hope all of this helps and good luck! :)

I'm a sophomore and I make people laugh all the time by making sarcastic jokes about myself. I also make sarcastic jokes about other people but you have to be careful about that, they know I'm just joking around and when they turn it on me I go with the flow and make fun of myself as well. It's a good way to let people know you don't take most things too seriously, which makes you easier to get along with in their eyes.

I'm in 8th grade, i'm small and chunky but i can run HELLA fast for a short time, i currently play hockey and do pretty well, i am a beginner because the last time i played was like 7 years ago... But i was thinking i would play hockey AND football next year? :) I mean when i say short i mean 4'11'' LOL but i'm pretty tough and fast and can handle getting hit. Soooo yeah? :)
