Lol, I paid more attention to the background than the heli! Where do you live? Just seeing those mountains with all that snow makes me want to go snowboarding!
I have found that if you keep the lipo's worm it helps them to give the amps you need. I use a hand warmer and a thermal container to keep them snug. Then only take it out just before the flight. Ones you run them up they keep their temperature. I have done this in -2 night flying. Works a treat. :)
Wow... serious mountain scenery there. I don't have a Trex 500 yet (waiting until spring), but if I did, I think I might try flying with snow on the ground too.
looks only 20 feet up, even that may be an exageration, but it had like what? 2 feet of padding? worst it could do is snap one of the rotors or fuck with the battery...
Iv had mine drop out of the sky like that from cold. Horrizon said when the lipo gets too cold, the esc wont get the desired amps and shut down. U got lucky!!
Electronics doesn't care about little snow.. only thing that could freak out is receiver and thats only after you bring it inside and next time you go out.. if its still wet.
If you have hi rpm, your blades, feathering saft, mainsaft so on will go like in gras etc.. maybe it helps little with landing gear and tailboom.. I havent had any problems with heli+snow, only rc-car + snow.
only if you get it out of the snow very fast and blow all the snow out or bye bye ,all the electronics will get wet and we all know what happins when you mix water with electronics, but yes it allmost pads the crash
bird doesnt sound right, either the motor is in a poor shape or something doesnt seem to go smoothly... check your main gear and turn the blades, if it's ok then your motor proberly is bad...
where you in austria somewhere around imst, innsbruck?
cuz it looks familliar to me XD

@poitka80 internal resistance within the pack goes up when its cold. Pre-heat the pack to 110 deg. and it will be just fine.

That Snow Crash!!!! Hahaha, get it?

Sounds like you have a bearing going out. Motor bearing bad=too much current=Esc burning up.

I think its too cold for the Lipo!!!!
Please keep Lipo always warm!!! Never Cold!!!
Flying in the winter is difficult!
tmawem 2 years ago
Sounds like a failsafe shut the throttle
or the pinion came loose on the motor shaft
or the one way bearing let go.
or could be the lipo got so cold it did a voltage shut down on the ESC.
Flown my 450 and 500 a fair bit in the snow with no electrical issues. Best if you keep the lipos warm before you fly!

As its a real problem flying electric helis in snow.
Snow = Water.
Electrical equipment dont like water or snow.
So in the end you get electrical malfunction.
