  • Rage for 3DS? I hope so.

  • John Carmack is a Goddamn lier! He failed to deliver on his own promise! The pc version looks like a port, and feels like a port. The very fact you can't tweak the graphics options, because there aren'æt that many options beside resolution, anti-aliasing and gamma. Yeah, okay, thank you, Carmack, you douchebag lier! The pc version has terrible texture pop up, even high end pcs, this is ridiculous, Carmack said the game was finished, and the bugs were worked out, how is that close to any truth?

  • This is actually what the game looks like on PC. I'm not even kidding.

  • ATLMember Shut up. Android ftw

  • @troy1002x im sorry i meant games. 6.5billion for apple and +700million Nintendo and +250million for PSP

  • @DevilmanAltair lol the controls suck. but i still love my ipod touch and it is the best portable game system

@SkankinDevil89 3ds is gonna suck the ipod touch sold more than the nintendo ds and psp combined. steve jobs said it himself

  • @smsjrtato IPhone or Ipod? since Iphone makes sense since it IS a phone.

  • No way, I'm calling shenanigans.

I have shenanigans on speed dial right now and it's all because of Rage.

  • No way... I'm calling shenanigans.

    Right now.

In fact I have shenanigans on speed dial, and it's all due to this game.

  • make an engine for 3DS. if he can make an engine on an iphone look that good, imagine what he could do on 3DS.

  • @SkankinDevil89 Iphone 4 is far more powerful than the 3DS.

  • @taypuc31 uh no its definitely not. not graphics wise. the 3ds is superior to a wii and close to xbox 360. most iphone games look like complete shit compared to anything on 3ds. look at resident evil revelations and super street fighter 4. the characters in street fighter 4 werent even rendered in full 3d on the iphone/pad . they were almost like sprites.

  • @SkankinDevil89 The 3ds isn't even out yet. Those images and videos are probably not actual gameplay. And yes, the iphone 4 hardware is more powerful than the 3ds. 3dS specs were released the other day and they're not that great. It depends on the developer, some iphone games look bad, some look great.

  • @taypuc31 um thats real time gameplay, its been confirmed by capcom numerous times. search on youtube 3ds software lineup. all those games look way better than anything on iphone. you know why? because the 3ds is a gaming dedicated piece of hardware. and even the psp's graphics shit on iphone's graphics. anyway, what does it matter? gaming on iphone/ipad sucks. theres no tactile feedback so the controls never feel as responsive as they should. you're better off playing games on a gba.

  • @SkankinDevil89 lol controls on iphone are perfect because you can create your own i never had problem with iphone controls try to play FPS on psp lol and on 3ds its bad too depents on the game some have good some bad

  • @SkankinDevil89 Actually, the iPhone 4 and 3DS are very similar in power, since the 3DS hasn't been released yet, it isn't known if it is worse or better than iPhone.

  • @taypuc31 No, it isn't.

  • Where are the dynamic shadow maps? Where is the depth of field? Where is the HDR? Where is the motion blur (there wasn't even camera based motion blur nevermind object based)? Where is the self shadowing?

Resident Evil 3DS is doing a lot more than Epic's demo did, its only real in texture resolution where Epic have Capcom comfortably beaten but then that advantage only really applies to the Iphone 4.

  • Can't wait android version of this game...on this video I can see that iphone 4 is not powerful enough to run this game smooth ... I would like to see this game running on samsung galaxy s humminbird processor! 90million triangles / s of power! :)

  • @fufnk Andriod games suck. Piss poor developer base and lack of hardware optimization. iPhone is clearly powerful enough to run the game smoothly as the video clearly demonstrates. I can tell you left your comment so someone would challenge you, so congrats.

  • PPL is this rage the game or rage the game engine cuz my p4 pc cant run rage on more then 15-20FPS and my iphone will run it on 60?

  • Everybody who works at Id speak so intelligently! Does anybody know when this is coming out.

  • Carmack could make Rage run on an abacus

  • batteries for a 1 hour with that game?

  • ok is a youtube video 360p you not goin to see 60 fps, some people are just idiots

  • Comment removed

  • i think... here 15-17 fps...

  • This is NOT 60 fps,it is maximum 20 fps....

  • @exon576 Well the tech demo is running 60fps, but actual games wont.

  • I love it how he mentions that it's still not perfect. That's professionalism.

  • Damn the graphics are really good

  • If only could make interesting games. :D Sorry guys, I still think Carmack is overrated. There are many companies that make more capable engines and much more fun and original games. I do not underrate what Carmack has done for the gaming but in no way he is the best one. As gameplay Doom vs Duke are incomparable. As engines Unreal vs Quake 2-3 too. Doom 3 sums it all: boring game on a boring engine capable of running 2-3 characters on screen.

  • @Zingam

Compare Id's engines and games to: FarCry, Serios Sam, Duke Nukem 3D, Descent, Chronicles of Riddick, Elder Scrolls, Grand Theft Auto, even Crysis and many, many more...

Up until lately his engines offered only confined spaces and dungeons at the same time when other games offered huge open worlds and dungeons at the same time with just as much eye candy.

  • @Zingam he created the first game engine(wolfenstien3D/Catacombs3D), then moved onto createing a TRUE 3D real time redering engine(Quake) THATS what hes done, THATs why hes awesome, THATS why iD software are ALWAYS setting the bar for indutry standards, NOT Unreal, NOT Crysis.

  • @KodiakJorgensson CAPS don't make your arguments ANY more substantial.

We owe a lot to John Carmack from a technological standpoint. However, he has a nasty habit of rehashing the same old thing on a newer, prettier engine. That's not to say that other developers don't do it. In fact, save Irrational Games, most developers get caught up in their own glory and release countless sequels even if the story is stale and without inspiration.

  • @PocketDrummer caps may not make it any more substantial, but it does help get a point across to people that do not read the whole post, and yeah i never said ids games are all original but they sure are better looking then any on the market. and becasue iam a loyal fan, iam always gunna stick with id as my fav developer original titles or not. enjoy :p

  • @KodiakJorgensson I know you never said the games were original... I said that. I judge a developer not by their technological prowess, but also on their ability to use their tools creatively. What's the use of a pretty engine if the gameplay gets stale after a single playthrough?

  • @PocketDrummer personaly ive never got bored of playing id titles, i still play them today, personaly i think this "replay value" is a laod of crap, if you enjoy the game your obv gunna go back to it, i still play alot of dos games today, not because the storys awesome or the graphics are sweet, i just enjoy them :-\. besides if you can strip down and compare certain games to the other youll find out that theres not much diffrence between the too. besides nothings original anymore.

  • @KodiakJorgensson

No, Carmack did not create 3D gaming. There were other 3D games before. Maybe the FPS genre but not 3D. Also there were other first person games before Wolfenstein 3D. Of course not the same kind but still kind of 3D FP. There other types of games not just FPS: flight simulators, other kinds of sims, arcades, puzzles, etc. ;) I remember playing a 3D flight sim in the mid 80s on a PC.

BTW Virtua Fighter was released in 1993 just 3 years before Quke and it was a True 3D RTgame

  • @KodiakJorgensson

BTW ID Software worked with Raven Software closely. The latter released some pretty great games with their technology.

Also the licensees have to change the ID engines significantly to offer capabilities as open terrains, skeletal animation etc.

  • @Zingam yeah there where other 3D games before quake, but not at the level of technology quake was at, second, virtua fighter IS NOT real time rendering ive read up on it. also, earliest game i know of personaly that used polygons is Mechwarrior 1 witch was out 1989 then theres MW2 witch was 1992-98. the point is, id made the game engine, before catacombs 3D/wolfenstien 3D there was no such thing as a game engines.

  • @KodiakJorgensson

LucasArts SCUMM interpreter is kind of game engine :) Game engine is nothing magical. Its just a concept, a piece of software etc.

And of course newer games/game engines would be better than older ones.

Only rarely newer engines are worse than older like Dark Engine :) It might not have been the best engine during its time but it was used for some great games.

  • @KodiakJorgensson good lord pulling out catacombs. thats going back ;P

  • @Zingam

I disagree (kind of). You can't quite say up until recently because of all the quake engines he made before id tech 4. I mean, every single quake had revolutionary graphics that did, in fact, feature fairly large areas. Plus the modified id tech 4 engine that supports megatexturing that was used in Quake wars also supported fairly large environments, although not quite on par with the games you mentioned. But you're talking about the guy that wrote in hdr to doom 3 in twenty minutes.

  • @Zingam

No, you're wrong. Carmack is great. He didn't "make" doom. So it's not his fault the gameplay wasn't as good as Nukem. And those games are FIVE damn years apart. I mean, damn it. You're talking about the guy that made the first technology capable of being in a fps.

  • @rolln2013

I say ID Software not Carmack. And their games and engines were always too limited and corridor oriented only.

  • @Zingam

Basically ID Software is Carmack anyway.

  • John Carmack could get Crysis on ultra working on the original Xbox... he is a technological GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @gtafans93 But he's still a socially akward nerd. ;)

  • @MrFooknuts he's A akward Sociall GOD of a nerd..... He's the Chuck Norris of Video Games

  • @gtafans93 lol, he reminds me of proffersor frink from the simpsons.

  • @gtafans93 How come Rage on PC doesn't look better than Crysis then?

  • I want Enemy Territory for iPhone, that runs on id tech 3, so it should be easy ;)

  • Put up the smooth framerate version from Gamevideo!

  • You guys understand that it's not coming out on the iphone right? He's just using the iphone as a demo to see how special the engine is, hopefully getting the game though!

  • @Proskater648 Um...it is coming out for the iPhone. A demo this year and a more complete game will launch next year alongside the PC game.

  • @Proskater648 :: Two iPhone Rage games are coming out before the console version arrives.

  • @Proskater648 Not there will be a "tech demo" version released on the iPhone this year and the full version will be released on the iPhone alongside the PC/360/PS3 version in 2011.

  • So wait...Rage is on the iPhone but not on the Wii? Something's not right here.

  • John Carmack is so damn awesome.

  • Sorcery

  • @theothercommentguy It be witchcraft, burn him.

  • Awesome. The iPhone is now comparable to a game console.

  • This looks great can't wait till they release it I love my iPhone 4

  • holy crapzz!!! i am happy im getting an iPhone 4

  • @HumanOFtheWeek3000 It is a fucking awesome phone. Don't let any of the asshole Android fans tell you otherwise.
