Really to me it is not about what she looks like. She does not look like a TV to me. I rather have a socalled ugly soprano with a God given voice than some slim gorgeous untalented soprano singing opera roles just because she looks the part.
Having just heard her Lady Macbeth in San Francisco, I can say that this is actually a very good performance for her (her Lady M was a total disaster).
This singer seems to have a tendency to sing sharp. Her Lady M was sung at least a half-tone above the pitch.
You can hear it at moments here.
Still, this cannot compare to other performances of this role. She's much better suited to Abigaille or Lady Macbeth.
I really expected her to be bad after reading some of these comments. Yes, she does look like a drag queen....However, she does not handle it as badly as I thought she would. It is a big voice, and I am always nervous they will murder the coloratura. The coloratura is certainly not superb, but not the worst I have heard for this aria. I do love her top notes and the heft behind her voice. She does have a bit of trouble grasping the legato line, but all in all...3/3.
Cerquetti also looked like a drag queen but she could sing, these endless casta divas are too much for anyone to stomach, this one should also have been disqualified from the start. The voice doesn't float, the voice must float and the legato should be magical
I had to scroll past the video and just listen to her because I kept thinking that she was a drag queen (and she'd be a good one!). She reminds me a little of Ghena Dimitrova and I'd rather hear her singing Lady Macbeth. If I were Pollione or Adalgisa, I'd be real scared of this Norma. I'd still give her a 3 of 5 for dramatic urgency and getting through it OK.
The sheer timbre of the voice is rich and interesting, but she has no agility whatsoever. The diction is admirable, though, and she tries to bring out the character with what she can do 1/3
Another contender for the worst "Casta Diva." The passion and commitment are there, but the voice and technique are lacking, so the expression suffers. The coloratura, I think, is more than a bit shaky, her voice is wobbly, and she seems to have difficulty singing a decent scale. 2.5/4

Great Voice with the necessary heft and weight for Norma but a bit shaky on the coloratura.
Singing: 3.5
Characterization: 3
