Robert: "I don't believe it ! I don't believe it!" You better believe it. She got $10,000 in cold hard cash. Ten grand! Ten thousand dead presdients, baby!
Robert: "I don't believe it ! Idon't believe it!" You better believe it. She got $10,000 in cold hard cash. Ten grand! Ten thousand dead presdients, baby!
Look, I remember seeing a contestant named Ruth on The New Treasure Hunt in 1975 strut around the stage amid the balloons and confetti when she found out she won $25,000!
... and in 1982 on The New $25,000 Pyramid, when Barry Gordon of Archie Bunker's Place helps this lady named Kay win the $25,000... Actually, it was more Kay's entourage that went crazy... ;-)
I could be wrong and you might be right but I thought on this version a couple seasons earlier that I remember someone doing a victory lap after a big win. Again could be wrong though.
Contestant: "Great! Now I get to try for $15K then $20K like that other lady did right b4 me!"
D: "Oh, I'm sorry. Once you win once in the W.C. you're retired and you don't have a chance to win any more"
C: "What?! You mean I HAVE to LOSE TWICE in the W.C. b4 I even am allowed a crack at $20K? You mean I have to suck at the game and fail to win more?!? I though this is the TWENTY K PYRAMID! Where's my Lawyer?!" :)
@Many people thought this rule was awkward - Dick even once read a letter from a viewer. At least in later versions , this was fixed as winning at the WC from $50,000 Pyramid (1981) onward did not end your run.
Though $50K Pyramid and Donny's "Pyramid" were total of two games and out affairs.
@thegameshowguy You know I can vaguely recall seeing some video either on here or somewhere else where he read a letter I think. I had forgotten the exact subject though it was something on that line. But yeah, to offer a top prize and then only be able to win it if you lose twice before was just bad all around. I'm a huge Pyramid fan, but this is the one thing about the show that will always bug me.
@RedNekLvr22 Wrong, pal. The rules for the ABC version of Pyramid and its Winner's Circle were that if a contestant nails all 6 subjects in 60 seconds in the first run, the contestant wins $10,000 and retires undefeated as champion. But if the contestant fails to nail the 6 (or the celebrity mistakenly gives "clues that conveys the essence of the subject, i.e. synomyns, too many descriptive clues", use hands gestures, or give any part of the answer), he or she doesn't win the money...
@RedNekLvr22 ...and has to try again for the second level ($15,000). And if the contestant fails the second time, the contestant can for the third level, the big one ($20,000). One slight caveat: the contestant MUST try to complete the Winner's Circle and win the top prize within the five days as champion because that was the limit. Also ABC game shows (like CBS) had a $25,000 winnings limit. The Bill Cullen version was a different subject.
If I were in Robert Walden's shoes, I'd be cryin' like a little baby. Those big wins would just be overwhelming for somebody.

Best great scene ever. No wonder Dick Clark and this ABC version of the "Pyramid" won Emmy awards over its run.

I've never seen a reaction to a 10,000 win like this. I've seen tons of winners circle wins but this takes the cake.

I'll take that back because in the video "The $25,000 Pyramid - 35 Years of Pyramid" A lady goes crazy after winning 10,000.

@gladfan1989 Well to quote Andy Warhol: "In the future, everybody will be world-famous for 15 minutes". That was her big moment on Labor Day '78.

Nothing like a good StarKist tuna commercial to get you all set & ready for the Winner's Circle. Sorry Charlie.

Well not so kickass to me:
Dick: "Congrats! You've won $10K!"
Contestant: "Great! Now I get to try for $15K then $20K like that other lady did right b4 me!"
