I have to say that Darth Maul is one the forgettable villains in history. That character is boring, his make-up is boring, his horned head is boring, his motivation is boring and everything that I don't even remember about this dude. Thank you for all the responses informing me Darth Maul actually lived. I realize there's a Star Wars universe outside the six motion pictures, but if one looks at my original comment, I clearly stated he should have survived AND assumed Dooku's role in THE OTHER PREQUELS.

Whether or not Darth Maul survived to partake in stories outside the prequels is not relevant to the discussion. We all know if George wanted to, he could digitally insert him in all 6 extra special SPECIAL editions. :)

I don't know why I never realized it before now, but Obi-Wan was pretty much the biggest badass in the entire series. He kills Darth Maul in the first movie, chases Jango Fett off a planet in the second movie, and beats Anakin in the third movie. And all those bad guys have killed at least one master-level Jedi.

Maul should have survived episode I and assumed Dooku's role in the other prequels. This would have given the film some continuity like the original series, rather than make it feel like superhero movies where a new villain is introduced every film. Hype is built around long standing rivalries, after all.

@thebark72 Well, Palpatine's plans to begin The Clone Wars include Count Dooku. Maul was only a sith weapon, and for sure Sidious was going to kill him after the Battle of Naboo. It was time from Dooku, and for Dooku to die after The Clone Wars to train Vader.
