I can understand why this would be hard for them, but it's almost like they expected this childhood experience of fame and glitter to transform into an adult one. I think most of this comes from the parents being unbalanced and making their daughters believe that their value as human beings was somehow related to their success as entertainers. Unfortunately, that's a view that pop culture embraces.
Joanna was seriously an AMAZING Annie. Whoever fired her was out of their mind, she can sing circles around Brittney. Terrible decision. Her voice was strong and young and loud. Perfect Annie.
The girl at 3:45 played on Kate and Allie too.Isn't that sad how poor Kristen teared up after all those years, and that poor girl that played her later Joanna Paciti. There was a movie on Showtime just about this. These women said it was really ugly behind the scenes, homosexuality, prostitution, one of the mothers had sex to get her daughter on the play
I remember when Joanna was let go and Britny was hired.I saw Britny in it on tour with nell carter and after hearing joanna sing it is clear joanna was a stronger singer
Watching 1997's Macy's search for Annie on 20/20 its clear Joanna's voice is outstanding. At one point in the show the producer Martin Charnin states, he wasn't totally convinced with their pick (being Joanna) She won the part which was presented by Andrea McArdle, the original Broadway Annie of 1977. While on tour before the show hit Broadway, Joanna was let go and replaced with Britnny, who played a chorus orphan. Joanna repeatedly came down with tonsilitis and bronchitis. What a shame!
Sorry Kristen, but 90% of people do not know you as the original Annie. The majority of the world considers Andrea McArdle the original Annie. So if you want to make a name for yourself, you'd better find that cure for cancer.
@coison123alex3 I didn't know Kristen Vigard was supposed to play the first Annie, The first time I saw her she was playing on Guiding Light, she looked WAY too young for her co star.
I am glad she got booted from American Idol. I think that anyone who's every previously had a recording contract should never be allowed to audition for that show. It's not fair to other contestants who don't have the exposure that she did.
I'm not denying that Joanna is very talented, but I do wonder if perhaps she wasn't trained as much as she needed to be to be at the time to play Annie, meaning I think she had trouble sustaining her voice etc...over the course of the show's run.
Possibly, but listening to the difference between the two, the replacement wasn't any more talented. Plus, they must have been training the other girl behind the sidelines because the replacement wasn't even the understudy. They pulled in another orphan.
Joanna, did she do a show or no

I went on a group "date" with Aileen Quinn when we were both in college, and it seemed she was very well grounded about the whole experience.

Two productions thrived on Broadway??? I keep hearing that the second one failed due to the firing and the script changes.

Joanna had the better voice - and did a better job. I mean Brittney Kissinger was adorable, but Joanna did better.
