@SergeantRock40 haha! Out of all the music out there it's hard to see how someone would think this sucks. It's fantastic just like everything else those two put out.
@CrimeSyndicate I framed houses for a few years with my uncle who was a house builder. Other than that I have been involved in the construction trades all of my working life and hold a ticket as a Journeyman Glazier.
This is pretty cool. I am researching stuff like this for a cabin we want to make up in the Adirondack State Park. No power or any other amenities so something like this would be perfect. I doubt I will be able to prepare the base like you did though.
awesome job! I love the "screw home depot" apprach of using recycled material - i hope to make a similar cabin, but with a wrap around porch for extended space. i hope to demolish someones old barn, get paid/free material, than proceed...clever eh? oh man your video is inspiring...thanks dude
As you can see in the video the cinder blocks are sitting on concrete cottage pads that are 18"x18"x6" and they are sitting on gravel that is about 12'' deep that is in turn sitting on the undisturbed sub soil (clay&limestone mix).
I love it! This is exactly what I want to do but I'm unsure about how to get started...since I have never built anything before. About how much does a cabin like this cost to build?
The cost is difficult for me to account for as most of the cabin was built using recycled lumber that I obtained for free. I would guess that it wouldn't be much more than a garage package of the same size (16'x20') that you can get at most lumber yards. The windows and doors were also free as I work at a window and door place. They were mistakes that other wise would have been thrown out.
Great Job. All of the pictures look like you built your cabin all in one beautiful sunny day! We have a cabin on 17 acres in northeast ohio that started out as 1 room 10 x 10 and has grown to 4 rooms and 2 floors. We love it. Keep up the good work.
yes, Great Video! Great job! I too am building my own cabin on 10 acres that I have in eastern WA state. Mine is 16 X 24 and will have a loft (which will be my bedroom.) I'm taking lots of pictures, so maybe when it's done, I'll put together a video like yours. :)
I'm glad to see others are doing the same thing as me!
Stay tuned I am putting together a video of this past summers efforts. You will be able to see the inside. Let me tell you the finishing aspect goes a lot slower than building the actual structure. I look forward to seeing your video. Send me the link when and if you make your video.
Exactly one Canadian summer. We started in April and finished in October. What you see is just a weatherproof shell. The interior is about 50% finished.
I don't understand how you secured the wood to the concrete foundation?
mrdudej 3 months ago
There are three beams 20 feet long and they are sitting on top of the foundation pads. No mechanical connection.

Really nice job. I hope I'm next to build one as it's been a dream for 30+ years. Thanks for posting.

16'x20' in this video. We've since built a 16'x15' addition.
Thanks for the compliment.

How much experience do you have in carpentry? I want to build a cabin for my fiance and I next year but I have no experience in this field....

so does it just rest on the cinder blocks?
