If I recall correctly, Marxist theory states that there would be a 'state socialist' intermediary stage between capitalism and the final stage of stateless communism, but anarcho-communists are wary of this.

Problem is lots of people (whether they call themselves anarchists are not) want to enforce their ideas of morality on others and that typically means bringing back the the immorality of government itself.
I don't really have a source, but it's personal experience. Individualist anarchism never was a popular movement, and collectivist anarchism is dead these days. They don't exist, "they" are all communists now.
Look up 2010 Anarchist Survey. Also keep in mind all major anarcho-syndicalist trade unions want to establish libertarian communism.

If I recall correctly, Marxist theory states that there would be a 'state socialist' intermediary stage between capitalism and the final stage of stateless communism, but anarcho-communists are wary of this.

I don't really have a source, but it's personal experience. Individualist anarchism never was a popular movement, and collectivist anarchism is dead these days. They don't exist, "they" are all communists now.
Look up 2010 Anarchist Survey. Also keep in mind all major anarcho-syndicalist trade unions want to establish libertarian communism.

However i would scarcely consider his judgement to be a "hijacking of the media". Philosphers have been trashing on anarchy and or anarchism through the 1700 and 1800's as well Thomas Hobbes 'state of nature' for example...so to say the meaning has changed seems a bit odd to me. Its obvious this version of anarchy is the 'new one'.

I agree that our country is better in a lot of aspects compared to third world countries such as Colombia and the surounding countries, but it doesn't mean we're good either. Hell tobacco, alcohol, and fast food are much more harmful to our bodies than weed yet it is marketed to our citizens as something bad.
