Y'know, I really get tired of hearing people say how American sounding they are now. The Screamworks album is amazing. I don't know how many HIM fans I run into who haven't even listened to anything past Love Metal or Dark Light. Venus Doom was not at all American sounding and was one of their most complex and beautifully written albums. I swear, a band is damned if they do or damned if they don't change. I am a HIM fan for life. I love their music and their style however it changes.

@savagemutha completely agree. also, ville stated himself that he didn't want HIM to become the next Bon Jovi, repeating themselves over and over again. Change is always good, and I love the new album. My favorite song is Disarm me. Venus Doom is anything but american sounding, it's the most 'gloomy' album. And I love it as well. Still, my favorite album remains Razorblade Romance. But I also will love HIM, no matter which road they take.

...whatever "natonality" you may think each album sounds like, they sound like Ville Valo every time, at that stage of his life. He knows what's happening in the studio, they don't sneak things by him in order to change the sound of HIM. Ville chooses the producers. He is always changing and evolving, finding his way...even his different looks. Yes, I know there are other members of the band, but realistically, it's mostly a reflection of Ville.

@jay270486 Yes, because Dark Light and Venus Doom both sounded so "American". As if dude, as if. Describe to me specifically how this is the case. Those albums contain their most complex and intricate song structures, as well as their best lyrics. If anything, Deep Shadows is the "American" album - some of it sounds like background music from a daytime sitcom!
