Black album was the beginning of the end of their early sound, which made them who they are in the music bussiness. So in other word Metallica USED to rock but havent COMPLETELY rocked since 1988 album. Thats a long time to go without making good music. In other words Anthrax sucks COMPARED to Megadeth, and Slayer, OH and Metallica( even though metallica sucks Now, the first four albums were awesome). Anthrax is decent but compared to, they are at the VERY bottom of the BIG 4 list.

The band that started thrash metal and black metal, of course because of the self-titled album back in 1982 was Venom. Those bands started the blueprint of all thrash, black, and maybe even death metal. When people say Metallica started thrash, I'm like, yeah right, most of their songs are dominated by more acoustic guitar sessions, and their records aren't thrash all the way through the album, so that way Slayer and Anthrax and the other thrash bands get a maximum overdrive of over 200 BPM.

@Noah58 Megadeths early stuff is very fast as well, and in MY opinion is the best. but you are correct, Venom was a huge reason that 80s metal was the way it was. Metallica gets too much credit for starting thrash metal. and in the begining of metallica it was Dave Mustaine who had that original "Kill Em All ' fast sound. The best guitar in kill em all was written by Mustaine. Just look at Mechanix, nice and fast, the way it was written first. Four Horsemen was SLOWED right down.

Also, James and Lars wrote Hit the Lights before Dave was in the band, and Hit the Lights is easily as thrashy, if not even more than The Mechanix

Why the fuck do u think Metallica changed the lyrics and the song name after Dave was booted from the band, because Dave wrote the song. Hit the Lights is a watered down version of The Mechanix which Dave Mustaine wrote. They would not change the song if they wrote it, and Megadeth wouldnt of put it on their debut album if Metallica wrote it. You are spreading misinformation

In the demo No Life till Leather there was seven songs. hit the lights, mechanix, phantom lord, jump in the fire, motorbreath, seek and destroy and metal militia. According to Dave Mustaine, he was the PRIMARY writer on 4 of the 7, more than half. They include, Mechanix, Phantom Lord, Jump In The Fire and Metal Militia. and even though he wasnt on Kill Em All, those are some of the best

@TheCorruptionlives Yeah, I don't deny he was a big part of Kill 'em all, but I do believe James' and Lars' attitudes towards music also had an enormous impact on the outcome of the album. I do suspect that alot of Cliff's stuff wasn't on until RTL however, as you can hear the music in RTL has a much greater musical perspective than Kill 'em All's pure thrash. Also, I know Dave made alot of riffs for RTL, like the main riff of the song ride the lightning.

Cliff was amazing and brought alot to Metallica,RIP. If he was still around Metallica might have not released albums like ST ANGER, which in my opinion is one of the worst metal abums ever, Metallica or any other band. It doesn't even have one solo in it, its more Nu Metal, which I'm not a fan of. I like DM but Endgame is Much better.

Load and Reload on the other hand has the right sound, but is more alternative rock rather than metal. But it still isn't Nu-Metal.
