Hard to argue that point, Some of us super tanker bike owners also own crotch rockets. I wouldn't want to drive an R1 coast to coast. I can guarantee you one thing, more crotch rockets get loaded into pickups after the non race driver bends the high performance bike. I do like your comparison to the space shuttle though, even if more rice rockets get airborne, keep your sense of humor and buns intact!
@japanowner You're a genius, they should be like japs, and make bikes out of plastic so at first crash they get totaled.
My friend t-boned and totaled a car with his fxdwg when that cager cut him off. I hit a sheet of plywood with my FLTRU and it only scratched the nose of my front fender, but when i hit a piece of cardboard with my Suzuki Intruder, the damn fender flew into pieces. So if you ask me, i'd rather have my "space-shuttle" than something that falls apart from hitting a damn june bug.

Maybe another solution is for american bike makers to make a bike that weighs less then the goddamn space-shuttle.
