I am a former U.S.Army Airborne Officer and a Viet Nam Veteran. I am also familiar with the French occupation in Indochina. As matter of fact, Alain Delon served in the French Foreign Legion there. The Last Command was a better motion picture than our own Green Berets with John Wayne!
@Comodoro1955 Lost Command sucked dude!I highly recommend The Centurians which is the book Lost Command is based on and is far superior to the movie and far more realistically.
@Comodoro1955 True, Green Berets was a propaganda piece based on Wayne's belief that USA was losing the war not in Vietnam but at home...but Berets became, despite its may flaws, a smash hit at the time landing in the top 10 money makers of the year telling me there was a thirst in the heart land for a pro war or anti VC movie etc Also I have a soft spot for Mr Sulu as So Viet officer huntinng charlile
Anthony Quinn (not a favorite actor of mine) turns in a good performance. The action sequences are well done, and the movie gives a fairly even handed approach to the Algerian War even to the point of showing (as much as can be expected in a 1966 film) atrocities committed by both sides.
This film was based on Jean Larteguy's novel, "Les Centurions"(The Centurions), and I wonder what Monsieur Larteguy must have made up of this adaptation of his work.
Why was this movie banned for 10 year in France?

There are quite a few "Vietnam" movies. This is the ONLY 1 I know about the deals with the French occupation/defeat. I want to see this real bad.

This is a pretty good film all the way around.
