  • For me, i think the traben big bridge gives a fatter tone and higher output

  • @metalballs2010 Cause it does.

  • There's no reason to doubt their claims. More mass in the bridge equals more sustain. Guitar builders have known that for years. But, there's a reason why most guitar makers, don't insert a huge block of steel into their basses. No one wants to play hour plus gigs with an anchor over their shoulder.

  • @AAI6718 Putting a weight under the bridge is an asset a least in one area.If you put a weight under the bridge it will balance a neck heavy bass.I have the John Moyer Havoc. And I immediately noticed that the bass hung at the correct playing angle because of the bridge.I am considering adding weights under the bridge of my Tune TWB63 since it is neck heavy.

  • but really who uses a standard bridge?

  • @jvmc08 Every other non Traben bass!

  • @gebass6 well not really, the only basses that use standard bridges are the Fender basses and cheap basses. I still like the Warwick Bridges better than Traben

  • @jvmc08 I think by "standard"they mean a non weighted, non Traben. In other words, any bridge that is not theirs. The comparison point being the mass of the Traben bridge.Actually to get a fair comparison they would have to compare bridges of the same mass.

  • I'm sold, where's my checkbook!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I think Traben are no more. They've not updated their model range and now John Moyer is endoresed by BC Rich. All BC Rich have done is taken his Traben bass and stuck the BC Rich name on it.

  • @vikingraider1 yea traben are close to being no more but all the basses might come out through bc rich because the company that owns bc rich also owns traben

  • I love Traben basses (I own two of them - a Choas Core and a John Moyer Havoc) and I really like them, great sound, huge output etc. but this test is a big pile of gash. There's no credence in it whatsoever. They should have simply compared it to another active bass out there on the market. This test just doesn't make any sense.

  • Traben are really nice basses and they really didn't need to do something like this and for people who say traben are crappy, have you ever picked one up and played it?

  • Hello everyone, I was just thinking about the Traben Chaos Attack 5 string. I have a BC Rich Warlock NT 5 string now, do you guys think that a Traben CA is a better choice for harder metal types like folk metal? I would be interested! Plz answer!

  • I hate it how unknown crappy brands want to make people think they're better than the real instruments made by quality brands.

  • @ranger1944omaha Have you ever played one of these basses?

  • @BassBoy2113 yes, it was very AVERAGE. nothing special.

  • @ranger1944omaha I'd have to disagree, but whatever. I don't feel like arguing with people who haven't pissed me off.

  • @BassBoy2113 Don't get me wrong, it's good, okay good, If someone doesn't mind it, it might be perfect for someone. but it's not special enough to get me away from my regular company basses. It's just an okay bass with a gigantic bridge.

  • I think i'll just stick with warwicks yeah its more expensive but its worth it. its a hand-crafted bass from Germany made of exotic, endangered, hard-woods that give them a sexy look, shape, and sounds that will make you orgasm...

  • even if this isn't fake, the industry bridge sounds more clearer. big bridge sounds too bassy and muddy, but i do believe it does give more sustain.

  • Traben, possible the ugliest bass on the market.

  • smells of bs...

  • it's basically like...

If you have a jazz bass, and for the standard bridge you play with the front pickup off while playing down near the bridge pickup.

Rather with the "big bridge" you play with both pickups on full and play near the neck pickup.

The neck pickup has a fatter tone while the back pickup has a treble-y tone. Both great options, but these guys make it seem like the fatter tone is the way it should be.

  • i got myself a traben phoenix fretless bass - it is a lot louder, BUT my tone on my P Bass sounds nicer :)

  • It's Henry Rollins twin, except much nicer!

  • If they are truly dedicated in the science behind the large bridge then surely the bridge would be shaped in a way to best allow the bass to resonate. (ie it wouldnt be designed to resemble flames/symbols).

The people at Traben don't see how contradicting these tests are.

  • would you rather have a big square on the body? in my opinion these are the best looking basses going and some of the best sounding as well.

  • 2 things

    1) string instruments resonate by the bridge transferring the energy from the string to the body. so more bridge contact equals more energy transfer, but less resonance. on an acoustic instrument, this would cause the tone to suffer. On an ELECTRIC instrument, it isn't quite as important.

check out the traben chaos. it's bridge has the same mass, but is built into the body.

  • there great basses and I have one,but this is a stupid way to sell your product.Take it from me.....this is fake

  • This has got to be the most ridiculous comparison video. The tones are so different, its obvious that the "standard" bridge tone has been eqed completely differently, The sustain experiment has the exact same amount of sustain and gain. It's just they made the bigger bridge one louder and better sounding via EQ. Thats one of the worst sounding basses i have ever heard (Standard bridge)

Also it insults the listener by trying to convince them a bigger waveform is better.

  • umm.... sound engineer here... it's easier for me to shape a larger wave form than a smaller wave form....

also... bass player here... these things sound better than most basses twice there price

  • Yea i got a Phoenix but in black

    its a sexy machine XD

  • this is so fake

  • killer tone

  • industry standard was played closer to the bridge, dishonest when they did not need to be.

  • The regular bridge had the mm humbucker only on. The chaos models are their best.

  • the bass with little bridge has only the bridge pickup playing. that's a lot of bullshit.

  • matchbox 20...LOL

  • Anyone here tryed the Traben Chaos obsession bass?

  • ProTools FTW!!!!

  • I think trabens don't sound any "worse" or "better" than any other bass because of their bridge. They have their own unique sound and look

  • Hy! I'm interested in the Chaos 5 string model, is it a good choice for metal? Coz it's beautiful but I donni if it has a good "metal tone"

  • It's quite shame they put this video out. It's quite obviously a dishonest comparison. I'm a big fan of Traben and especially love my Traben Phoenix 5 string, but it dampens my faith in them a little to see this. They don't even need to make a dishonest comparison. They should've just let their basses do the talking.

  • This test is so flawed on so many levels.

The size of the waveform is just the output of the bass. All it means is that the one with the bigger bridge is louder.

  • @RicePlaysBass : Right, but for me the sustain test is make sense and useful.

  • @RicePlaysBass Going to have to disagree with you there. Size of the waveform is volume. The taller something is, the louder it is. There's a lot more low end to the bigger bridged one as well. That was only 1 'level' you pointed out, what are the others?

  • You may have the answer bassist 13. I thought exactly the same thing. Two different tone settings. I beleive this comparasin is baloney.

  • The thicker bridge 1. has bigger tone and more control+sustain. Although the standard has a little mroe resonance in my oppinion and ive tested it efore thats all!

  • I own a traben phoenix 5 string, i'm not gonna lie, it isnt a high end bass but for under a grand its one fucking great deal. Getting a five string with that kind of boom that trabens create, its just great. if you want something even higher quality, check out the bootsy star with five rockfield pickups, or the new john moyer custom the bassist for disturbed.

  • If you use an acoustic bass yes wood does make a big diffrence. Yet I gues in a bassguitar that has its main on metal/rock wich mainly aims for a more distorted sound the sound is far more delivered by pick ups and your amplifier, the only thing that I would risk my guts on is the realiability of the wood. So I will pay you all my life savings or whatever if you can actaully hear the diffrence of exactly the same bass setup only the diffrence of basswood with ash on a full life gig.

  • the wood its made of changes the frequency the pickups get. all trabens are made of basswood, which gives a warm (yet still ballsy) tone as compared to other woods

  • That's odd. Crap sound? No way!

Crap techneque? I guess so...not in my case.

I like Traben basses. They are a new company and in order to get folks of the snobbish type (like on this page it seems) they have to vut costs. It also means kids can buy them, y'know, the new upstarts that change music history.

I gots a few expensive basses and I'm buying a Traben. Why? Cause it.s new, different, exiting AND I have the ability to pull it off. It's all in the fingers.

  • poo huh?, wow if thats all you can come up with go back to elementary school!

  • no one can aford a $1000+ bass jackass, I know I can't, so piss off cause clearly nobody cares what you have to say!

  • whoa dude, settle down, have some bad experiences have we?!

  • you dont know that, it may suit the sound of their basses. i admit i dont like them much either but electronics is a big part of a bass, humbuckers single coils whatever. you can make a shit bass sound good if you know how to get a good tone out of it with whatever your using. electronics makes a big difference. jazz bass pickups and p-bass will sound different.I have had three musicmans i find them way too harsh sounding, fender got it right with the p-bass

  • lol? are you stupid SirDewdalot? You sound like an ass. "oh this bass sounds like its made of balsa, im also a whinny tool" by the way balsa would be a good material for a bass beacause of the masive amount of resonance but its not sturdy. Not only that texazranger04 never said "his bass was his cok" LOL thats not even how spell cock retard. And last you haven't had a single logical arrgument. You keep say "traben sucks get a real bass" which is an arbitrary comment.

  • sounds like the industry standard is running the bridge pup only and the one with the "bigger/better" bridge is running both.

  • ok well im done with this, you are retarded. i dont own a traben, but i have played them and they sound amazing, i played 3 separate music mans and did not like their sound compared to the traben. all you do is look at material and instantly dub it shit...that makes you a tool. and seeing as i dont see you in the studio, or on tour i dont think you have any kind of opinion on nething

  • all u have to fucking do is shit on bass companys and wood?????wow i wanna be u when i grow up u faggotfuck. reguardless of what theyre made of, sound is key, and alot of people like thier sound. like i said, go say some of this over on talkbass because you will get banned for being so retarded. people like you shouldnt be allowed to play music or have a say in living at all. you should be shot on site

  • ive still yet to hear anything from you...i think you might wanna take walk over to talkbass and say some of this shit and watch yourself get shot down. yes wood makes a big difference....so do pickups fucktard, so do bridges, everything needs to be taken into consideration. now if you can convince all the people that have a traben that its a piece of shit, by all means, i wanna see this because they know what they ahve and they know the sound they have and love it. cant wait to see your line

  • yea....im gonna go out on the limb and say you sir, are full of shit. isnt the bass u fucking nignog, its the bass player. and reguardless ALOT of people like traben basses, as opposed to...uhm...'your" line of basses which im not really seeing anywheres...hmm...

  • Are you replying to me? Play what you want if it works for you great. I didn't say I didn't like Trabens. I owned 5 of them. I just like some other basses because they work for me. It's personal perference.

  • I noticed that they're using the Phoenix model for the test. I have the black 5 string and I love it. Thumbs up for Traben.

  • Can't wait to get my Traben Array 5-string!

  • I love the playability the trabens have and to be honest basswood isn't a bad wood but yes ash is wayyy better. I installed a Aguilar OBP-3 in my Neo Limited and it sounded way better. It's a shame they didn't use a swamp ash body on the Havoc. The Rockfield's are great pickups. If I could start over again I would just stick with a american fender p or jazz bass and save my money even though there are some other great brands out there. (G&L and Musicman) That's all you need...

  • This video is full of crap. Does anyone really think that this is an honest comparison?

  • basswood isint bad. its not as warm as mahogony but not as bright as alder. its very growly and even mute.if set right you get a good mute salsa/latin tone from it, but its very growly.they also have maple tops witch give it some brightness + the big ass bridge. when popped they have a big somewhat bright growl to them.one thing basswood does is it cuts through.tats why its used in many guitars it cuts through.uckeye burl is way worst musically but people love it because its pretty and expensive

  • I like how the chnged from D to A when the changed basses...

  • I've had my traben pheonix fretless for about 3 gigs now... how the fuck did i ever play without it?

    Traben is TONE!

  • wat do u play? wat kinda music?

  • Yeah, you know what? When you're making a bass with a BASSWOOD BODY, you damn right better have a big bridge... a big headstock... big pickups... ANYTHING to maintain a tone.

And is it just me, or did it sound like the "industry standard" bridge had the bridge pickup soloed with a flat EQ while the big bridge had both with a bass boost?

And the industry standard was picked closer to the bridge? What's that about?

  • Good ear man I was thinkin the same thing. For the standard bridge they soloed the bridge pickup and picked closer to the bridge. Then for the traben bridge, the had both pickups with a bit of bass boost and picked closer to the neck in order to get a thicker tone. Not to mention they probably got a bit of compression goin on for the sustain....

Truth is, bridge makes a difference but it isn't that drastic.

  • I've a Kore too, and it rawks!!

  • ICE...your the man...wish you could have let loose here...

  • wow they just had the bigger bridge one with more volume

    I dunno sounds fishy

  • Although I adore the Traben, I must say that although the basses are "Identical" (except for the bridge obviously). He did not actually say at any point whether any kind of pre-production had gone into the bigger-bridge bass prior to the recordings.

The great big Traben logo at the beginning does also lead one to wonder who wrote Jeff's paycheck.

By the way... I've just bought a traben phoenix fretless, I can't wait until it arrives so i can make my own video of it :)

    Traben Rock!!!

  • it wouldnt matter if pre-production was done, traben big bridges rule. and i hope you enjoy your phoenix, i just got a 5 string phoenix the tone is incredible

  • I have a Traben Kore... Its straight up CRAZY!!!

  • That rounds off my choice to buy a Traben!!

  • Traben is the best bass in da house!
