The amp in this system only has one power wire, that's why it's important to connect it to a fuse that is "switched," meaning it's only on when the bike is on.
I dunno about you guys but I prefer the sound of an engine and my own thoughts as I ride. Isnt that the point of biking though? Getting away from it all so you have time to relax and not have things that are normally in your life (yes even music) for just a few minutes while you ride.
Seriously, whatever... the system comes fully plug n play. Mount speakers where you want...run speaker wires to amp (mounted where you want.) Plug in. Power is taken from your starter box. You have to find out which wire is ignition and which is ground...easy enough. you get the power by using the supplied T Tap. A simple clip on the wire device. Cycle sounds uses a proprietary t tap made by 3m called the 3m Scotchlok..
Good quick instructional. I put a couple of 5.25" car speakers on my machine with a $10 Chinese amplifyer from Ebay. I also made use of a toggle switch so I can run directly off the battery to the amplifier. The only issue with my setup (or perhaps any) is theft. It'd be easy to steal the speakers, but I'm working on welding a small locked speaker case to the frame so it can't be tampered with.
We don't currently offer any motorcycle sound systems, I'm sorry. Keep looking around, maybe ask your friend Google, I'm sure he's got some opinions on the subject.
Connecting your sound system straight to your headlight is not a good idea. If it blows a fuse and your head light goes out as a result you could be up the creek without a paddle, not good.
would it not just be simple to hook a live up direct the the positive terminal of the battery giving it full power? i have just bought a kit for mine and will use a inline fuse holder instead of the fuse box as near the battery as possible as if anything goes wrong and the live wire decide's to short it will only short as far as the fuse not the whole system
It is certainly possible to install an audio system on just about any bike. If you've got a battery, a place to mount some speakers (either enclosed, or flush mount), and a music source (car stereo, iPod, Satellite Radio, etc) then you can do it.
Crutchfield currently carries systems made for touring bikes like Goldwings, but there are universal systems available like the one featured in this video (we no longer carry it, sorry.)
Ed, what is the system that you installed? I have used crutchfield for years and will not go anywhere else, terrffic service/support. My 1978 Goldwing is lacking proper sound, the JVC KS-R130 is still rockin but hey she is 20 years old. LOL still cranks out the George Thorogood Cassette HaHa.
For the power, I understand that the hot side is constantly hot. So the switched side of the fuse only hot when the ignition is on, right? Thus preventing electricity from powering amp when your not riding.
I believe the Cycle Sounds system for metric bikes will work for you, but you'll want to check directly with the manufacturer. You can call them at 816-525-2628 or just Google "Cycle Sounds."
This product is one we no longer carry at Crutchfield.
hey ed, do u make a kit like this that would fit an 08 boulevard? and if so what would be the cost, and how would i get one? thats for your time...mike
is there any way to hook up speakers and the amp with out the tank bag?? i mean can i just have my ipod or mp4 under my seat or wherever and still hid the amp and wires?? anyone have any ideals ??
Glad you liked the video, we had fun making it, and we'll definitely do more. Lots of people at Crutchfield want to be in videos, so I dont know how soon Ill be making another appearance. As for installation information, assuming you bought the new 3, 100 watt premium Cycle Sounds system, you can call them at 866-4-A-RADIO. You should also know that when you get stuff at Crutchfield, you get lifetime Product Support. We're pretty cool like that:)
Great question. A lot of people like the wind in their hair, the sound of their bike, and dont want music on while riding. I get it, sometimes I turn the music off when I am riding for that same reason. More often though I enjoy riding with the music on. Sometimes it's satellite radio, or I'll I set up an iPod playlist to rock my ride. My dad likes 50s music while hes riding, I like harder rock most of the time, either way, music on the bike can be real nice.
Love the idea and the sound you get on ya bike! What watt is the amp & speakers that you have? Im thinking of using a 100 watt mini amp speakers on my bike... Too much?
I love the sound on my bike too! The amp is 50 watts X 2, or a total of 100 watts. More power is usually better, but I found it just wasnt needed. Its plenty of power for good sound even at highway speeds. The source you use can also make a difference. I recommend an iPod or a nice Satellite Radio Plug and Play radio. A cheap MP3 player probably wont have a strong enough output to really make this system sound as good as it can. Happy riding!
Good to hear from you! Yeah, now got the amp but did not come with paper work so a little unsure on the connections at this time but will fig it out im sure. Will Google. Also, got an ipaq Satnav that has MP3 on it so can get me where i need to go and have all the sounds i need for the long trips! Your right about the Cheap MP3 thing as there is a difference. Also, the power runs out way too fast too as you need to turn up at high speeds! 60+
Good install bro! This would never work on my bike because anything above 4,000rpm is just deafening lol

so the remote wire is the power wire? same for this amp?

how do you install it so only the power comes on when the ignitions on?
TheEnglishFamily 2 years ago
English family,
You connect the power wire to a fuse that is switched. One that is only live when the bike is on.
Feel free to call us for a more detailed explanation.

Hi Olieryan,
Connecting straight to your battery might work if you also install an on/off switch, or you have a system that can be turned off.
Using a switched fuse is how this system shuts off when the bike is not running.

"Move it on over" rockin' on cassette on a 78 Goldwing, that's awesome!
This particular system is no longer available at Crutchfield, but we have some other motorcycle systems you might be interested in.

You are correct. You don't want to drain the battery with the amplifier when the bike is off.

Hi nightmare,
You can put your iPod/MP3 player wherever suits you and your bike best. I like mine in the tankbag, but that's just me.
You can install the amp, wires, and speakers, hide all the wires and the amp, and run the input cable to wherever you end up putting your player.
