Jimmy, thank you so very much for your contribution to my life, and memories. "That's the way" was playing when I fell in love one summer afternoon in the Philippines. I want to build a guitar sound for my son. Basic, starter kit, around 2K, any help would be so appreciated. God Bless! Rock on brother, and again, thanks so much for all the great songs I sing in the shower every day.
What I wouldn't give to stare at, feel and play that guitar. To hold that thing in my hands and to know all of the Zep classics, like Black Dog, were recorded with it...wholly friggin' sh*t!!!
This is neat stuff. I liked listening to Jimmy talk about his Les Paul — aka "wife." I bought a fine-scale model of Jimmy's Les Paul Sunburst Standard (made by Miniature Guitar U.S.A.), and it's a nice ornamental piece.
I've been listening to Jimmy's work for 30+ years now and I'm still not tired of it. It's a testament to the thought and craftsmanship behind his compositions and playing.
My God, i'd be shitting my fucking pants if Jimmy Page allowed me in the same room he was in, let alone let me touch his revered guitar. I'm not worthy!

Jimmy is indeed a very chill guy. Met him in LA back when he was touring with Paul Rogers & The Firm. I was at a 5 star hotel, in the bar, & I noticed these guys next to me that sorta looked familiar. When our beers came we all toasted together. Then Jimmy CAME OVER TO OUR TABLE & INTRODUCED HIMSELF! After I turned to my boss who I was with, and said "Do u know who that is"? He said no. I said thats JIMMY PAGE- One of the all time great guitarists! Couldnt believe he came over & into. himself!
the man who customized Jimmys guitars customized mine, he owns the music place that i take lessons in. Jimmy was on a visit one day, and i got to meet him. What a Gentleman.
i wonder if its Roger Giffin who he is talking with, i know Roger replicated one or both of his vintage les pauls. I wonder what he paid Joe Walsh for this one that he mentions Joe insisted on him buying..I'll bet whatever Jimmy Paid Joe, the value has probably 20-30 fold, because i know led Zep toured W/ the James gang , prob the first tour in 1969 , in fact it was on July 2oth, 1969.(man on moon day) and the value back then was prob $500, now they go for up to 1/2 million..what a deal!!
@MOSKII58 actually my math is way off if the gtr was purchased for say even $1000.00 back in 1969 and it is valued say at $400k..thats a 400x increase 400-fold..not that Jimmy would part w/ it..if you add on his celebrity
this guitar would prob break Clapton's "Blackie" stratocastor record of selling for over 1 mil..just think of the tours and the songs that this guitar recorded. whatever would i kill for this guitar.
to me this guitar is "Rock & Roll" cause Jimmy is the Riffmeister..
@MOSKII58 even if he paid $1000.00 back in 1969 which is possible to Joe, today these sunburst les pauls the vintage yrs 1958,1959, & 1960 are going for ridiculous prices upwards of 1/2 mil or more..so Jimmy got quite a deal, now add his celebrity and this guitar might outprice Clapton's "Blackie" strat which auctioned for over a mil. a few yrs back can you imagine the concerts and the songs recorded this guitar has done..what history. Jimmy is the Riffmeister & this gtr is Rock & Roll !
Never mind irreplacable the magic and the dragon wizard is quite the ,absolute, phenom, gifted, but why did he grey his hair the black long from THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME IS the JIMMY PAGE i remeber and far outweighs anyone and everyonewhen the legend takes the stage. We will see him at the opening act of the OLYMPICS in Great Britain.Y,O,T,D,64 in 2012 PUT
Gotta be pretty high in the Gibson food chain to get the assignment eo go meet w/ Jimmy and escort his guitar back to the "custom shop" for re-creation/duplication for the purpose of raping a few people to the tune of 30k for a numbered and signed copy. 30k is probably a conservative estimate
Jimmy Page was the first guitar player that got me excited to play guitar. I remember I use to drink coffee and stay up all night and play guitar. those were good times....
Even though he is a living legend he displays none of the Liam Gallagher rock-star disease, he interacts with other people in a kind & considerate manner.
A true gentleman & in my opinion the greatest rock guitarist of all time.
FYI!!!!! THE PUSH PULL JIMMY TALKS ABOUT IS NOT A PHASE REVERSAL!!!! ITS A COIL TAP FOR THE BRIDGE!!!! Gibson confirmed this when they took the guitar back to America. However, the bridge & neck are permanently wired out of phase.
im thinking jimmy is like in a split second thinking in his mind (woo!!!!!!!what the fu&*do not pute your hands on my axe !!!!!!! then thinks ok whats done is done i have to be cool ) i mean think about it how many hands have touched this guitar and im sure the smuck doing the interview knew what he was doing in his own mind .,,,maybe my brain is just wacked but i had to laugh to my self when i saw the guy grab the pot !!
I can't believe he would even let that guitar out of his sight, if it means that much to him...I do agree that if something should ever happen to Jimmy that guitar should be placed in a museum somewhere and kept under glass and lock and key...

YOU ARE NOT WORTHY TO TOUCH THAT GUITAR!!!! talk about offending the gods!!!! you are mere mortal man, and have no right to touch the battle ax of a rock god!!! thats like grabbing thor,s hammer!!!!! i think i woulda cried when he opened the case!!! or i woulda grabbed it and ran out that side door behind page, ax in hand!!! talk about a legendary guitar!!! he recorded more zeppelin stufff with that ax than any other!!!! when page dies that thing will be worth millions upon millions!!!
tHIS GUY IS A FUCKING LIVING GUITAR GOD/ LEGEND!!! HES THE BIGGEST LIVING GUITARIST IN THE WORLD!! noone else comes close to his musical achievements on the guitar!!! that guy got to touch that guitar?
hahaha just got this from this video!! this isn't #2, JP ref #2 not while holding and touching this instrument. Makes sense, make a duplicate of your #1/#2 and lend it out to get duplicated, while keeping the real McCoy home and safe. I hear you Jimmy, I like and would follow the same trip!!Also noticed the big bars on your windows....lol
@zeppelin926 it's like switching the wires around on the pickup at the flick of a switch, basically the notes take away from each other rather than build.
Ok , so JP is the most talented musician I have ever seen not only for his achievements in Led Zeppelin but beyond. Joe Walsh's BS about JP stealing his Guitar is low, what would you do if you were hurting for money now and you sold a guitar to a genius back in your fazed out days to who later turned out to be thee Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin and and the current value of this guitar is not even worth mentioning because of it's history and achievements, never mind the mods. IMO, not true Joe.
@dstSABLEYE Way more than just a guitar to him... read up on his history, he has always been very dedicated to his guitars. Not many (if any) came and went.
4:25 ... "It's going to be having some sons and daughters" ... something about paternity ... haha ... I love his laugh after that! Imagine taking temporary possession of one of Jimmy Page's most important guitars .... it's like carrying a prized Stradivarius violin around worth millions of dollars ... whatever you do, don't bloody leave it on the subway and lose it you nob ... handcuff it to your wrist! haha
Joe Walsh was reported to have given an orange Gretsch guitar to Pete Townsend. After a few beers at a family reunion, in a show of brotherly love I gave an acoustic guitar to one of my brothers, I had my regrets later, but he still has the guitar. So who knows the true story.
I remember hearing an interview of Joe Walsh back in the 80's. Joe said that Page stole that guitar from him. Walsh was saying that he held a party one night and several other rockstars were there. Page was at the party and Joe wanted to show him his Les Paul that just came back from a guitar luthier, who made some mods on it. Page tried it out and liked it. After a few hours Walsh went to show someone else the guitar and it was gone - so was Page.
@totha Can't find that interview anywhere. Todd Rundgren bought a guitar that had been stolen from Clapton,("The Fool": psychedelic-painted SG-style Les Paul), fixed the broken neck, replaced the f'd-up vibrato with a stop tail-piece, finished/sealed the porous paint-job, & refused to return it to EC!
@lazur1 Seriously, Page stole it. That is why he laughs whenever he says "Joe Walsh insisted I buy it from him". Walsh wasn't 100% sure it was Page who stole it at first. But, one day he is walking by a magazine rack, and there is Page on the cover of a magazine with Joe's guitar. Page may have given Joe money later, but he actually stole the guitar. That guitar would be worth at least $400,000 just because it is a '59. But, because of the history - well over $1,000,000.
@tothatextent It'd be worth what you say intact, but go way down for being altered, then back up, -past- a mil: Because it's Page's, it's THE Les Paul. I believe you saw that Walsh interview, but where is it now? And how full of shit might Joe be? He could've sold it when he was fucked-up, & forgotten the next day!
@lazur1 The interview I am referring to was not on television, it was a radio interview. It was in the 80's and I heard it on Q107 in Toronto, but it may have been syndicated. Walsh was pissed about the whole thing, he was not laughing about it. He went into great detail about the story and he did not mix words. Walsh said Page plain and simple stole that guitar. The interview was long, probably over an hour.
@tothatextent I believe you. I met Joe through is 'connection' in Chicago, before he 'went straight', & must insist that he was consistently intoxicated enough to not remember much from day to day. Hyped-up & excited to be hanging out with Page, making an offer to sell, & not remembering anything the next day, & filling in details seems at least equally likely as Page stealing it & lying about it.
@lazur1 If you ever speak to him again, ask him point blank if Page stole that guitar. I also remember Walsh saying that Page is a "very petite man". In that, Page's hands and joints are very small. Because of his small bone structure, Page needs guitars with very thin necks. Les Pauls from the 50's have very thick necks, but have great tone. When Walsh showed him a Les Paul with great tone and a thin neck, well Page had to have it.
@tothatextent While virtually all of the earlier, single-coil-("soapbar")-pickup LPs have somewhat thick necks, the 59-60 models, (w/humbuckers), began to have thinner necks towards the end of their run, just before they were replaced w/the SG-style body, (which was still called "Les Paul" for a while, until Les himself complained!) I can't really say they're common, since they're merely a portion of an already-uncommon guitar, but they're not as unusual as Jimmy makes them out to be.
WOW, tHANK GOD FOR THE INTERNET. WERE LOOKING AT AN OLDER WISER GENIUS THAT COULD TELL A MILLION STORIES AND WE WOULD SIT AND LISTEN TO EVERY FUKN ONE !! I JUST GOT GOOSE BUMPS, NIPPLES SHOT OUT LIKE FUKN TIC TACS AND I THINK I FELT A DRIBBLE DOWN MY LEG. I WOULD SAY THIS IS NORMAL
@sms8668 YES!! EXACTLEY!! It's as if you were reading my mind...or something..because,uh,my body also reacted with goose bumps..hard nipples...and I too felt a moistness between my legs. Add a rush of adrenaline, and I would say that's my normal reaction to anything Page or Zeppelin. If I had the chance to ask anyone in the world 20 questions,it would be hands down,Jimmy Page.
tothatextent, they changed them because they hold a les paul in tune better than those klusson machine heads are crap.especially on the g-string.that is what i have found.my guitar tuner seems happier about it.jimmy rules
I bet that if thar guitar went up for auction it would be the highest price ever paid for a guitar. Eric Clapton's Blackie went for just under a million. This would go for two million.
@GhostyFilms He is saying : "Slipping Machine Heads". A machine head is the knob that tunes the guitar string - the peg head or tuning keys. Les Pauls come with machine heads that some feel go out of tune. Lots of guitar players would take off the original machine heads and switch them with a brand called Grover. Grocers were very well made. Page was just saying that Zeppelin could not afford for the guitar to go out of tune - due to a slipping machine head. Since it was only a three piece
@GhostyFilms It comes down to the player. Some people leave the originals on - the originals are called Klusson (a German company). Page made it cool to put Grovers on his guitar. I think Mike Bloomfield had his tuners changed to Grovers as well. It is just one of those things that hipsters like to do, sorta like guys putting fancy rims on their cars - you don't really need to do it but you do it anyways.
i enjoyed this film very much , and of course jimmy page is definetley my nr 1 guitar god of all times , hendrix come after him , i like the hendrix stuff too , very well , but if you look objektive jimmy did everything before hendrix and he write so much more stuff + he was nr1 at the scene before hendrix .
@ThrashRoC Hendrix put out a tremendous amount of music considering he was only around (in the public eye) for about four years compared to Page's 30 years.

hahaha just got this from this video!! this isn't #2, JP ref #2 not while holding and touching this instrument. Makes sense, make a duplicate of your #1/#2 and lend it out to get duplicated, while keeping the real McCoy home and safe. I hear you Jimmy, I like and would follow the same trip!!Also noticed the big bars on your windows....lol

@zeppelin926 the pickup magnets are in the wrong place so less output listen to some peter green stuff.
daviejtube95 9 months ago
@zeppelin926 it's like switching the wires around on the pickup at the flick of a switch, basically the notes take away from each other rather than build.

Wow, hear the sustain from that aged wood 4:07, just incredible!! Imagine that at 1K+ Watts!!
woweh1 10 months ago
Ok , so JP is the most talented musician I have ever seen not only for his achievements in Led Zeppelin but beyond. Joe Walsh's BS about JP stealing his Guitar is low, what would you do if you were hurting for money now and you sold a guitar to a genius back in your fazed out days to who later turned out to be thee Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin and and the current value of this guitar is not even worth mentioning because of it's history and achievements, never mind the mods. IMO, not true Joe.

After a few hours Walsh went to show someone else the guitar and it was gone - so was Page.
tothatextent 1 year ago
@totha Can't find that interview anywhere. Todd Rundgren bought a guitar that had been stolen from Clapton,("The Fool": psychedelic-painted SG-style Les Paul), fixed the broken neck, replaced the f'd-up vibrato with a stop tail-piece, finished/sealed the porous paint-job, & refused to return it to EC!
lazur1 1 year ago
@lazur1 Seriously, Page stole it. That is why he laughs whenever he says "Joe Walsh insisted I buy it from him". Walsh wasn't 100% sure it was Page who stole it at first. But, one day he is walking by a magazine rack, and there is Page on the cover of a magazine with Joe's guitar. Page may have given Joe money later, but he actually stole the guitar. That guitar would be worth at least $400,000 just because it is a '59. But, because of the history - well over $1,000,000.
tothatextent 1 year ago
@tothatextent It'd be worth what you say intact, but go way down for being altered, then back up, -past- a mil: Because it's Page's, it's THE Les Paul. I believe you saw that Walsh interview, but where is it now? And how full of shit might Joe be? He could've sold it when he was fucked-up, & forgotten the next day!
lazur1 1 year ago
@lazur1 The interview I am referring to was not on television, it was a radio interview. It was in the 80's and I heard it on Q107 in Toronto, but it may have been syndicated. Walsh was pissed about the whole thing, he was not laughing about it. He went into great detail about the story and he did not mix words. Walsh said Page plain and simple stole that guitar. The interview was long, probably over an hour.
tothatextent 1 year ago
@tothatextent I believe you. I met Joe through is 'connection' in Chicago, before he 'went straight', & must insist that he was consistently intoxicated enough to not remember much from day to day. Hyped-up & excited to be hanging out with Page, making an offer to sell, & not remembering anything the next day, & filling in details seems at least equally likely as Page stealing it & lying about it.
lazur1 1 year ago
@lazur1 If you ever speak to him again, ask him point blank if Page stole that guitar. I also remember Walsh saying that Page is a "very petite man". In that, Page's hands and joints are very small. Because of his small bone structure, Page needs guitars with very thin necks. Les Pauls from the 50's have very thick necks, but have great tone. When Walsh showed him a Les Paul with great tone and a thin neck, well Page had to have it.
tothatextent 1 year ago
@tothatextent While virtually all of the earlier, single-coil-("soapbar")-pickup LPs have somewhat thick necks, the 59-60 models, (w/humbuckers), began to have thinner necks towards the end of their run, just before they were replaced w/the SG-style body, (which was still called "Les Paul" for a while, until Les himself complained!) I can't really say they're common, since they're merely a portion of an already-uncommon guitar, but they're not as unusual as Jimmy makes them out to be.

gibsongold1970 1 year ago
I bet that if thar guitar went up for auction it would be the highest price ever paid for a guitar. Eric Clapton's Blackie went for just under a million. This would go for two million.
tothatextent 1 year ago
What are they talking about at 1:03? Snipping machine?
GhostyFilms 1 year ago
@GhostyFilms He is saying : "Slipping Machine Heads". A machine head is the knob that tunes the guitar string - the peg head or tuning keys. Les Pauls come with machine heads that some feel go out of tune. Lots of guitar players would take off the original machine heads and switch them with a brand called Grover. Grocers were very well made. Page was just saying that Zeppelin could not afford for the guitar to go out of tune - due to a slipping machine head. Since it was only a three piece
tothatextent 1 year ago
@tothatextent Oh... Interesting... Do Les Pauls still have that problem?
GhostyFilms 1 year ago
@GhostyFilms It comes down to the player. Some people leave the originals on - the originals are called Klusson (a German company). Page made it cool to put Grovers on his guitar. I think Mike Bloomfield had his tuners changed to Grovers as well. It is just one of those things that hipsters like to do, sorta like guys putting fancy rims on their cars - you don't really need to do it but you do it anyways.
