  • the cgi looks better than the puppet on the blu-ray

  • the CGI yoda is much better than the puppet on the BluRay, one of only a few decent changes Lucas has made

  • I remember seeing this before A Bug's Life, and I cried because I was afraid of Yoda. I was a wee little 9 year old oh me.

  • This was perhaps the least remarkable of the films. But Qui-Gon was badass, Darth Maul was awesome, BRIAN BLESSED as Boss Nass was entertaining, and the space battle was cool.

  • menace is my 2nd favourite after empire

  • Does anyone know the name of the music track used in this trailer? I'm thinking it was made specifically for the teaser and isn't found elsewhere, including apparently the Phantom Menace Ultimate Edition CD. If anyone knows even if it was ever made available separately anywhere at all, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

The reason: I'd like to use it to incorporate it in a video of my own, especially the 30 secs or so from the text part at the beginning. That's all I'd really need...

  • @horsie111 The teaser opens with "Landspeeder Search/Attack Of The Sandpeople" from ANH (Just answering my own question in case others are curious. Thanks to the force.net's 'What's this musical cue/track' thread )

  • @horsie111 I remember it being available, at one point, on a double disc full score CD album of the movie music (for ep 1 only). I was living in BC at the time though and that was in 2000

  • Holy shit, a DOUBLE-SIDED lightsaber???

  • I remember how pumped I was seeing this trailer when I was 11. Hard to believe it came out 12 years ago. Say...isn't it about time someone remade this schlock?

  • The prequel trilogy wasn't bad, but it could have been so much better. First off, I think Anakin should have been around 15 during episode 1. That would have eliminated much of the cheesiness of Episode 1. In episode 2 and 3 he would have been in his mid and late twenties and much more of a full fledged and mature jedi. And the actor I always wished had played Anakin was Carl Urban. I still look at him to this day and see the perfect person to play the iconic role of Darth Vader.

  • i don't know how to feel about the movie but this trailer was amazing.

  • @LiquidArmProduction is amazing!

  • Nostalgia dictates I can never fully hate this movie but I do get ppls criticisms of it and I'd never call it close 2 the orig Trilogy.

  • yeah we all know how it turned out but looking at this u can kinda understand how excititng it was and must have been BEFORE we saw it right. we do all agree on that, double bladed lightsabres, 2 Jedi, young Obi-Wan, pre-Vader Anakin and Yoda. It was exciting as a trailer with fresh eyes

  • who had a nerdgasm when the saw darth maul in that trailer.

  • @GBincProductions The first time I saw the double bladed lightsaber my lightsaber activated in my pants.

  • aah the 90's

  • I think one thing that might have helped audiences take the movie a little more seriously was if they had not over-layed every scene with music. I'm not criticizing John Williams (nor am I saying it could have been a 4-star movie, I mean Jar-Jar was no Chewie). Williams is a great composer. I just think the idea to put so much music over every scene wasn't a good one. For instance, look at the first shot where the Gungans come through the fog with no music to tell you what's about to happen.

  • This trailer takes me back to when I was 10. I remember it took hours for it to download on the old computer, but I watched over and over again.

  • @rrwryan fuck off chump.

  • @rrwryan

three movies. OF NOTHING BUT FUCKING WALKING

  • @TehQuestion75 haha theres only one return okay and it aint of the king, its of the jedi

  • I do like the original trilogy better, but I don't understand why some people hate this movie. I saw this in theaters when I was 6, but had already seen the original trilogy multiple times and still liked it and still like it now.

  • @RyRy16oz watch red letter media's reviews on episodes 1,2 and 3 and you'll see why people hate them

  • @RyRy16oz Same here, mate. When I was a kid, I flat-out loved this movie. Now, I can see the flaws, but I still really, really like it and will happily sit down and watch it any time of any day. And my dad... Christ, my dad LOVES this movie. He often says that it's one of his all-time favourite films and his personal favourite out of the Star Wars series. So there are a few people out there who really like this movie; I think too many people got swept up in the over-the-top fandom of the film.

  • I liked I and II-idk why people didn't like them. This was my first Star Wars film. I believe that any of the Trilogy fans seeing this though "oh wow-shiny" and after seeing it though-wtf has this got to do with the Rebel Alliance and Empire?!

  • its only good for people who saw this in theaters for there first star wars movie, i loved this

  • Episode reenergized lightsaber combat, and the legacy of the jedi. People need to give Lucas credit for this. If it weren't for this movie, Knights of the Old Republic would never have been made.

  • So many die-hard fans felt betrayed by this movie.

I remember going to Target when this movie was in theaters. Saw all the merchandise on the shelves. Saw a strange frog-fish looking thing on a poster.

Then I saw the movie with zero expectations. Loved every part of it.

Because I'm CERTAIN that young kids know what racism is, right? They don't care. I don't care. This movie was spectacular.

  • @fire55717 What about racism?

  • @WeHeartFilmTrailers

It's that Jar-Jar Binks is presumably a racist stereotype. But when you are a young boy and you see this movie for the first time, do you really let THAT get in your way of enjoying it? I know I didn't. I don't hate this movie because it has a racist stereotype in it. I like this movie because of the visuals and plot.

  • @WeHeartFilmTrailers

    1. Meesa gratefuls to bes able to replys massa!

    2. Asian acents and warddrobe on the Trade Federation.

    3. Only money works on that large nosed merchant Watto. In EP2 they even gave him a a Hasidic hat and beard. Of course everyone knows Toydarians did Death Star.

  • @DoctorWeeTodd I think you're looking way too much into those aspects. Lucas - first off is incredibly too close to Spielberg to make Jewish Money Grubbing comments, and I don't recall hearing Asian accents with the trade federation - not at all.

  • @WeHeartFilmTrailers The first defense of any bigot is “I’m not a bigot, I have plenty of friends who are _______.”

Now I’m not actually calling Lucas a bigot. We all do know that some of his closest friends are Jews, and he is currently dating a black woman. However that doesn’t mean he isn’t above some good ol’ fashion harmless ribbing.

I constantly make racist jokes with my friends about our backgrounds. My best friend calls me chow mein, and I call her fried chicken.

  • @DoctorWeeTodd Yes, but you're not best friends on here - you're strangers. Would you go up to a stranger on the street and call them a derogatory name? Absolutely not because you know you'd get punched in the face. The internet may provide you a shield, but that doesn't mean your posts should lack civility.

  • @WeHeartFilmTrailers I apologize if it appeared I wasn't civil, but it's also nearly impossible to explain how something is offensive without offending. I was just merely pointing out what the media picked up on that others like yourself had missed or ignored. (Perhaps I was too blunt, but that's the most easy to understand way)

Your best friends analogy explains perfectly why everyone including Luca’s Red Tails scribe Aaron McGruder got mad. (continued)

  • @DoctorWeeTodd It’s okay if Lucas and Spielberg crack some non-politically correct jokes in private. They’ve been friends for decades and understand that they’re not being serious and at the end of the day care for one another. But Lucas made a family movie and multimedia franchise that millions of people including kids saw and bought merchandise for. And.. it was full of negative stereotypes that were perpetuated on a future generation even in a galaxy far far away.

  • @fire55717 : Couldn't agree more. I'm a self proclaimed die hard fan, the difference between me and the ones who hated this movie is, I didn't become jaded by adulthood.

  • @fire55717 How can you love every part of it? The film makes no sense and has no main characters.

  • @Xoolio31 look man, i agree this was a weak SW film and i understand ppl hating it. but c'mon, wat the hell was Anakin, Qui-Gon, Padme and Obi-Wan if not main characters. u can dbate the worth of them as main characters but u can't say this film had NO main characters. its very diffic 2 make any film without at least 1main character

  • Wow, it sounds like they're talking about Tom Riddle (Voldemort), except, JK Rowling decided delving too much into his past would be incredibly boring and probably ruin the whole saga unless it was vital to defeating him.

  • in response to the haters of episode 1, and the prequels in general, everyone always states the obvious; the OT was better. but think of it this way......you had 16 years between the old and new movies. 16 years of repeated viewings, and fan adoration, and most of us first saw this movies as kids, fond memories. the other movies were so awesome, ANYTHING lucas would have put out would have been a letdown to the fans. the hype surrounding this movie was HUGE nothing like it before.

  • @jediKnightreviews Don't waste time blaming the hype. I didn't buy that garbage from Leonard Maltin and I won't buy it now. The movie was BAD. Badly acted, poorly written, indulgently full of self-references instead of being an original idea based on an existing fictional universe. It would be a poor example of a Scifi channel original.

  • I've had a love/hate relationship with this movie, but I still can't believe how stupid Yoda looks here.

  • omg I can't wait to see this movie.

  • "am i the only person that thought episode 2 was really good?"

    I liked it

I remember when this Episode 1 teaser 1st aired, I thought it looked like it was gonna be the coolest movie ever

  • fuckin terrible movie lol

  • I guess I don't get that Star Wars feeling :[ Maybe it's the soundtrack...

  • Imagine if this was all you saw of Episode 1. You'd think it was the greatest movie ever.

  • @n8dogg87

no, theres to much jaja binks in this trailer

  • Very Good movie . Absoulutley Fantastic teaser. Man ,we all went coocoo for this preview. This movie brought effects and production to a new level. The pod races are so great. Liam Neeson as a Jedi , yes please.

  • man, I remember going apeshit over this trailer. And those were the days before I fast internet, so I had to see it at the cinemas - memories of visiting america and almost dying when I saw it.....such an naive child...

  • What is so naive? It's a great trailer and a great film. So what if it was child oriented? Doesn't make it less of a masterpiece, just alters the genre.

I remember waiting an hour and half for this trailer to download via my 56k AOL dial up... seems like a long time ago but it wasn't.

  • lamo ALL new star wars movies sucked balls hard

  • am i the only person that thought episode 2 was really good?

  • No, but most people I know despised it.

  • @AbsoluteMenech its OK i just dont like the mushy kissy parts

  • @AbsoluteMenech No you are not alone, I thought all three prequels were epic

    as a story.

  • @AbsoluteMenech

    No because it was shit

  • @AbsoluteMenech Attack of the Clones relied too much on CGI action and environments, and it made the whole thing seem cheesy, not to mention the lovey dovey scenes between Anakin and Padme, which took up a good third of the movie. It should have been more about Anakin slowly building his new empire with the help of Senator Palpatine (aslo Darth Sidius). Then, in Revenge of the Sith, Palpatine would have revealed himself to Anakin that he was the sith lord, but he was already too loyal to him.

  • There are three E.T. (phone home) senators in the Senate Rotunda! That means the Star Wars galaxy and our own co-exist (at least in terms of movies), as E.T. visited Earth in the Spielberg flick. This movie is an expositional piece, a set-up for what's to come; so naturally not the most fun. But necessary all the same. And the droidekas are up there with the T-800, Squiddy and RoboCop!

  • I remember when this trailer came out...it was soooooo different than expected. I remember waiting anxiously for this movie to come out!!!

  • OMG Id completely forgot how they still used a puppet for Yodo in this one, and eek its bad!!!

They should have just gone CGI completely, because it makes no sense him being a puppet here and CGI in the later 2 and then a puppet again in the last 3.

Maybe I had fonder memories watching it when I was about 18 and I got swept up in the magic, but when you look back at it now... it really wasnt a great and that trailor really doesnt make it look any better.

  • The CGI wasn't up to par for Yoda, as he is already in the mindset of fans he has to have a certain "look", even the CGI in EP 2 wasn't really that good. He looked pretty decent though in EP3, but that's because they developed the software further.

  • I was just reading about this and how fans paid full price to movies just to see this teaser. Man, how many fans must've jizzed themselves when they saw this for the first time.

  • LMAO... that's funny shit. I was obsessed with it when it came out, compared to EP3 though, this is like a student film... lol.

  • it's kind of funny how the makers of this trailer made it seem like Maul was Anakin.

  • Between 1 and 3 - This is my favorite.

  • I disregarded 2 as a legit movie, it sucked so much. But I don't understand the hate many have for Episode 1 - I loved it. The invasion, the politics of the universe were well explained... so what if it had Jar Jar? Petty fucking audiences.

  • The story of Episode I was very good, especially the politics. The excecution? Not so much. But it was definitely better than Episode II. And Episode III totally blew both I & II out of the water, even though it was nowhere near the quality of the original movies.

  • I couldn't agree more.

  • @grumpytosnowwhite Bah, the prequels just didnt maintain the same theme of the original series. They were confused, often trite, technical achievements.

  • @OpenMawProductions Very true. The "feel" was all wrong.
