I was wondering how APCO 25 sound like, it actually sound pretty good, I was afraid it will sound like digital cell phone. I think APCO 25 sound clear than D-STAR.
i have a pro 106 just like the one you have there, how do you get the opp-digital-ont to come on your scanner how do you get it on can you show me ,what buttons i need to push if you can ,could you show the whole picture of the scanner while getting all the features on there showing what buttons you are pushing, please show me also how to program P25 into my scanner please
I just purchased a Pro 106 in Pennsylvania yesterday and am looking at your video regarding the set up for OPP and Bellnet for EMS--in Ontario. Sould I pay the money and load same through the RR.com instead of trying to load it all myself. If I use rr.com how much do they charge?? Thanks caddyjack1
I live in Portugal and i want to listen to the police, but, they are using now the Digital TETRA comunications, is it possible to listen to them with those two radios?
I see Rad-Shack has this on sale for $250 bucks, what a deal? I want to know if I even need a digital.Even though we use EDACS will I benifit in any way with this PRO-106? Will I get a little more distance? will it sound clearer w/ less distortion? anything I can use to get my better half to understand why I need another one. Please help soon, there only on sale till 12/ 27/10
I stumbled across your video through google search when I was looking for information and pricing on the Pro-106. I was shocked when I heard Hamilton programmed in! I'm from Hamilton as well hehe. A friend of mine has the PSR-500 and we usually sit in the timmies parking lot listening to east, central, and mountian.
Nice to see another local scanner user. (Especially with the same scanner.)
I have a Pro-135 and its a basic thing i guess....I use this to listen to trains. I was wondering if this scanner would increase the range? Or would I need a new antenna to do that? Is this a BNC connector? Thanks!
I'm looking for help with the radio Shake Pro -106. My boss purchased it from Radio Shack and they did not know have to program it and he does not. So I have to do it and I do not know the first thing about programing a scanner. Can you point me in a direction to find some help.
What is at 138-174? Do you like GRE because I had the PRO-164 and had to give it to radio-shack three times to fix the display and when it went out again a fourth time it was past the 90day warrenty so I am not sure I should bother with another GRE.What do you think about the quality?
@MrScrappydue Hey! I ended up takeing the back caseing w/ ID numbers and switching them w/ my brothers.I sent it in a fourth time and they fixed it.I'v had it working since the last time we wrote.(8 months ago)
Great video, went out bought the psr 500 after your review, had to take cd-rom to Kinkos to print out manual ($25 for 138 p) not bad. OTR driver so no laptop no software to program, still learning how to program manually. Any chance for How to videos?
I have the PSR500 and have had problems with the loose BNC connector or the interior solder. Is it possible to use the same PF/USB cable that I got with my PSR500 and use it on the PRO-106? Also can I update the PRO-106 by just going to GRE's site and download the Firmware/software updates?
Will the G R E 500 listen in to the recently upgraded british police secure digital radios. which are motorola 800 sets, on the tetra network system. used to be analogue up until 2005, but we have not been able to scan them since then.
but to be honest people the above is ideal for modern days. something upgradeable through software/firmware. specially if your area is trunked bc theyll always add or delete talk groups
I just bought my Pro 106 for $320 shipped and have added the programming cable so I can input my Pro 2096 channels(basically clone) using Win500 and be up and running in minutes(be a couple of days before I get mine). I just wanted to see how the 106 looks and works,it looks like it has more features than my Pro 2096 does, one reason why I decided on the 106 than getting a Pro 96(I would have been happy with the 96 as well)
We have a PRO 106 from radioshack and i was just wondering if anyone knows where he would have got that antenna that he has on his radioshack PRO 106?? It looks very cool and I would love to get one..Please help!!
keep in mind most, not all but most agencies plan to go fully aes or des encrypted once a digital transition is complete and all vehicles are upgraded/portables. des comes standard now per fed guidelines in all new radios. so agencies say if its there, just use it. so eventually itll all be encrypted. hard but true fact.
true in most states or cities. but to be honest i dislike digital. our dept has had many cut outs, the digital repeater kicks in and covers any traffic where as analog ud still hear traffic over repeater. moto has tweaked it and nada. then if some1s keyed up not at all can any1 key up ina emergency and e heard where as analog would allow split second radio key ups. it also has more dead zones in locations then analog, as for mtn terrain, forget it, IT SUCKS
I just received the Pro-164 for Christmas, but alas, most of the Departments in my Region have all gone digital within the past month. I'm trying to put the Pro-164 towards the Pro-106, through a refund and price difference payment. The Pro-164 is one of the BEST Trunking Analog Scanners, peiod. Too bad my area went completely Digital though, with just about 100% of All Public Saferty Services on P-25 now. Analog has better sound quality, and better range, but the departments are "Tech Happy".
yea i just got the pro 164 also as a gift. i live in el monte, ca and i think they are digital. i have the freqs but all i get is static. so if they are digital they wont pick anything up then????
It depends somewhat. Some areas have dual broadcasts, usually by Fire Departments, where they still put out an Analog signal from Dispatch, & that you can listen to. However, if the responding unit has Digital, you'll only hear static, random noise, or nothing (But the signal Meter will still show a strong broadcast). The PD station near my house is all Digital, as I went to their frequency, but only heard dead air, yet the signal meter was maxed out. Message me if you want to talk more...
true gummy however keep in mind many agencies only are doing a dual broadcast while installing or upgrading. example one by one the units roll in and a new radio is put in. so all can comm they use dual. but once all r complete it can be switched to all digi by over air 2way programming within minutes by a agency
Thanks for the review. I am ordering this scanner tomorrow. I am upgrading from a Pro 90 which is not very sensitive and tons of intermod. Hope the Pro 106 is better. I also have a Pro 34 and the legendary Pro 2006. The Pro 197 is the base version of this scanner. Wish I could afford both!
The PSR500 speaker location is much better in my opinion. I use a leather duty belt radio holster and the speaker has to fire from the top to work well, otherwise the speaker fires into the bottom of the case and is difficult to hear.
help shold i get the pro -106 or the gre 500?

question what type of antenna do you have on the pro 106. I like how it covers the whole bnc conector.

Do you find that Pro-106 screen is more crisp and clear than the GRE 500?

Both of these scanners are made by GRE. The 106 is just marketed as radioshack.
