My theory. Gravity between the comet and the sun pulled the comet closer to the sun, as well as the CME would be caused; as heat and light is affected by gravitational pull. And your 'vaccum' analogy requires there to be substance that's pulled, while outer space has little in terms of matter that could be pulled.

To my eyes it looks like the comets course was taking it past the sun by quite a long way and the flare seemed to be happening anyway and even continued to happen after the comet had passed. The imaging device has a program to block out the surface of the sun, since its so bright it could damage the optics. The white aura you see around it is indicitive to diameter of the grey circle.

The comet did not "cause" the "flare" (coronal mass ejection). Comets are miniscule compared to the sun. They are small mass, small gravity, but the envelopes of gas and dust surrounding them make them look large on images.

But I put to you that Huge is not a generally accepted method of measuring mass. Comets are, in large, made up of ice particles, which are not very dense (compared to other astral bodies).

So relative to its SIZE, the object does have low mass. With Coronal Mass Ejections happening quite frequently, one is bound to occur as a comet is passing, as seen here. There is NO CONECTION between the two events. The sun is in no way "conscious", let alone "consciously aware " of a comet passing. Comets only look large because of the surrounding coma and tail of very thin gas and dust, their cores are small and low mass.

there is a great video explaining the earth's movement in our solar system on 12/21/2012 - I've seen this on documentaries - what it says' is there will be a major solar event. To what extent is unknown but it has happened before as scientists have found by examining layers of earth in the Grand Canyon a layer of about 6 inches of nothing but charred vegitation.
