The plants and animals were bigger in the past because the earth's gravity was weaker. Weak gravity would allow all species of life to grow larger even bacteria.
Perhaps the Earth was smaller. If You 'deflate' the Earth a bit, all the continents fit together. There are theories on how the earth could have gained mass. Google it.
The thing is that ozon layer is the key in this larg plants and creatures in the past. Thicker ozon layer , smaler solar radiation so creatures and plants can grow biger.... Larger solar radiaotion , smaller creatures and plants. That is the key.....
