homosap firstly hardly any Muslim country today follows Shari ah properly, second just have a look at a time when Islam was implemented properly for example Spain and Baghdad in the past , the first running water system was designed , huge leaps of progression were made in the scientific field of optics, the medical field and astronomy. Algebra was discovered .basically we wouldn't have maths or progressed so much in science if it wasn't for Islam. ignorance is bliss

I agree that big part of the world has still this oldschoold family model. But what I dont get is why western muslims ask for sharia courts if this inheritance thing clearly discriminates against? (I presume western muslim women work though)

That Yusuf guy is obviously influenced by western environment, he advocates very soft version, I wud even say turn-the-other-cheek model.But of course every muslim practices his/her own version of islam.

as for inheritance, islam doesnt seem to be very flexible here. Nowadays women very often make more then men and therefore its them who financially support the family but I think sharia doesnt recognize it and still sticks to the old model.

As for that book u suggest me to read, i dont think i will get it here in the Czech. But still, muhammad was a bit chauvinist here, wasnt he? I hope u dont agree with that witnessing as its really degrading

i wonder how you came up with that conclusion. From what I see, both the wife and husband work day in and day out to "support" their families. In my family and community, the male is responsible for financial issues within the home. The females work, but are not really pressured to pay the rent,bills etc compare to woman in non-muslim society.

that was rather meant to be the case of nonmluslims. But as the muslims in the West somehow assimilate, they take over certain customs and I am sure muslims females will pick this up at some stage too. What Iam trying to point out is the rigidity of islam. I dont see any single reason why wives shouldnt be responsible for providing financial support..especially if they make more then men. The biggest weakness of religions is their lack of flexibility.

The question isn't whether Democracy being Compatible with Islam, but rather is Islam compatible with Democracy and Universal Human Rights? Islam must allow apostasy, people leaving the faith, religous pluralism, womens rights, gay rights and face the realities of the globalized modern world in the 21st century. The whole world will not become a 7th century bedouin arab cult, so either muslims reconcile Islam with Universal Human Rights or Islam ceases to exist with its 7th century worldview!
