  • wow the two guys in the pit working the tires are badass

  • Nothing like Nitro Cars !

  • it's fun until you go back to your car in the parking lot and the battery's dead from the alarm going off every three minutes...

  • wow nice seats

  • Killer audio! Too bad there isn't a way to reproduce the energy shockwave & the pounding vibrations that rattle your bones that accompany the audio. Lol That and the sweet, sweet, burning & blinding taste/smell of all that raw unburned nitromethane being belched out of the headers during start-up & staging.. When I went to a Blue Angels show a couple years ago, unbelievable as it was, I was amazed that *SIX* F/A-18 fighter jets were not as loud or painful on the ears as ONE top fuel car!!

  • @AboveThaClouds651 Ha! To be fair though, I wonder if they would be on par with the top fuelers if all six jets were flying down the strip while we were in the stands! ha ha ha... But then I think about when they put jets down the strip and those are pretty danged loud... six of them would be deafening, but you don't get that low-end rattle that only top fuel (or a freight train) can seem to deliver.

  • @tsalam Hell yea bro, I'd be willing to bet that if all six of the Angels made a low pass in delta formation through the stands with full afterburners, they'd probably be quite a bit louder than the fuelers.. The Angels' two solo pilots made a few afterburning passes, and two Air National Guard F-16s seemed to go back and forth for awhile together with their reheat on. While definitely loud as shit, I think they could MAYBE edge out a single Top Fueler, but not two.. LOL

  • @tsalam Like you said, it's all about that low-end bone-shaking vibration & that initial shockwave; that's something that I don't think anything shy of a bomb can reproduce!! Haha but you're right about jet engines being LOUD, yet consisting of all mid to high frequencies.. Also, they just don't have that explosiveness due to having to gradually spool up.. I think the closest that a freight train could come to the intensity of a nitro car would be to step out in front of it. Lmao

  • @AboveThaClouds651 With the train thing, I once was standing about 20 feet from one that was rolling through at a low cruising speed with three engines and they hit some kind of frequency that was pushing these rythmic waves of extreme bass straight through me, kind of like a truck trying to accelerate in too high of a gear. I watched it shake half the train station. But definitely didn't have the explosiveness of a nitro drag. Dang it, now I need to go to a race! :)

  • @tsalam Hell yea man, I guess I didn't put enough thought into that.. Haha I actually grew up in a house (my parents still live there) that is literally no more than about 150 yards from a fairly busy section of freight train tracks. I went down there on Easter to hang out, and I thought I'd help them out by walking the dog down the trail that runs parallel to the tracks, which is about 20-25 yards away, if even that in some spots... (Cont.)

  • @tsalam (Cont.) So anyway, I was thinking of you and your comment when one of the trains (4 Union Pacific diesel locomotives) started up and slowly started moving along.. Right after it started up & while the locomotives were still running at a fairly low rpm and just spooling up, I started to feel the pulsing, rhythmic waves of bass that penetrated my whole body and went right through me. It felt so incredible & awesome, and reminded me of when I was younger and experienced that shit regularly!

  • @AboveThaClouds651 Nice! Yes, the awesome pulse of any engines is, well - awesome! Thanks for the memories. :)

  • @tsalam Lol You just gotta love anything that has 16 cylinders, a length of 73ft & a weight of 407,000 lbs (203.5 tons,) an 'understated' rating of 4,300hp, over 100,000lb/ft torque that can get a 15,000 ton (3 mil. lbs) train moving, and a 70:17 gear ratio capable of 70mph.. It's absolutely mind-boggling! Although it's about half the HP of a Top Fueler.. Lmao! Here's a video of the locomotive I'm talking about: the EMD SD70M. Turn your bass up & listen @ 0:38. youtube.com/watch?v=t_hFhTJQiMI

  • @AboveThaClouds651 Nice! That's what I like to hear. :)

  • Did n e one notice they ran a 4.5 sec?

  • @accentplaya18 Yep, even though it was a test run they still get up there. Sometimes they get huge times in testing but eat too many parts so they dial back. Another thing is it takes a LOT more energy to get from 4.5 to typical high 3's or low 4's.

  • @tsalam

now they run high 3s or low 4s but is because they run 1000ft instead of 400 meters which sucks :/

  • This may be the best audio recording of top fuel i have found!

  • @PlanckEp0ch It's still the best one I've heard and that's after 3 years of watching drag race vids on here!

  • Daddy Like!! LOL

we need that camera for our gigs..

    -J.

  • Great audio !!!!!

  • thats NHRA for you!!!!!!!!!!

  • work of art , you captured everything, the audio is outstanding !

  • holy crap 82000 + views! ....awesome!

  • @esecalishow What's up homey! Message me with your number man.

  • @esecalishow most of them are mine lol, best audio ever

  • such a sweet tune

  • what sort of camera did u use?

  • @CHKNSFKN I used a Fujifilm FinePix S9000 DSLR camera. There's more details in the description. Sadly, don't have the camera anymore.

  • half those views are mine :D still laugh everytime i hear the car alarm

  • @CHKNSFKN the audio is good

  • tut tut mengers i ran this thru my pa speakers 1.2kw of rms power, vibrated my light globe fitting loose, orsm sound still had nuthn on being there

  • I used to have my computer hooked up to a Denon receiver with 5.1 using Boston Acoustic speakers and an 8" sub. Let me tell you, putting this on a medium volume with surround sound shook my entire house.

It's better than any movie I've watched on Blu Ray on it....

  • @mengers06 That is badass! Awesome setup, nice components. I wish to heck I could see what that's like. :)

  • Dude best drag race video on here...OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Man re-watching this video with headphones on is just sick. If any of you have headphones even the cheap ones, crank them up full blast and it will kinda in a slight way feel like your at the track. I think Ive mentioned it before tsalam but this is probably the best Top Fuel video on Youtube......cant wait to get my Nitro Fix in Three weeks

  • @3fan4eva- Ha! I rewatch it when I need my fix too! :) Enjoy the big show. I'm hoping to catch one later this year, funds allowing. :)

  • @tsalam Right on, Yeah Im moving to Sacremento in December and I figured while I look at apartments, jobs and my school.....Ill drive another 70 miles for a race. I cant wait. Hopefully you get to a race soon.....I would love to see what you can capture

  • @3fan4eva- I think my capturing days are over where it comes to video. If you read the description of this vid, I talk about the camera i used to capture this however I don't have it anymore (it broke!). I think this was a 1-in-a-1000 capture. Happy racing!

  • @tsalam Aw That is such a bummer.

  • sweet sounds great

  • Best video of nitro cars I have ever seen. Thanks!

  • hahahahaha the car alarm went off. you know its got to be loud when that happens.

  • One big BOOM! ;D

  • thats cool

  • to those who have never seen these things in person u gota go theres nothinglike it in the world

  • all the dumbass import queers have no clue what these cars are like

  • Comment removed

  • I love that fuking car alarm at the end... u couldnt ask for a more appropriate sound considering all hell just broke loose!!!

  • oman cant wait for nhra dis weekn in phoenix. miss the smell of nitro n bruning feel. wwoooooooooooooo!!!! hahhah

  • Me too I went but dis year wasn't as fun :( and a killed woman during antrons brown crash hope next year gets better :) can't wait!!!!!!!!!!

  • gotta love hearing the car alarm going off at the end.....lol..... that gives those who haven't been in their presence a little bit of an insight into the raw power of these top fuelers........ one of the better vids ive seen captures it very well

  • your all wrong it can be 6-10 clutch disc and run a 2.75 gear 0-100 .08 sec 0-275 mph in 2.25 secs!

  • there is nothing like two funny cars or top fuel dragsters leaving the line

  • You have NOT experienced raw untaimed sound at that level until you have been there. It can NOT be put into words. I have been to see top fuel cars many times and every run is a good as the first time.

  • @whiskerbiscuit1965 Amen to that!!

  • thats sick filming, nothing like the being there though.

  • these engines have 2 ignition distributors???

  • 2 magneto's, 16 spark plugs, 8,000 horsepower, you must see live !

  • Me and my dad used to go to the Phoenix races. When we'd get back to the parking lot all the cars would be going off. But not ours I dont think. Good times.....

  • sounds like one long gear lol..this is perfomance at its best jeez how do you control that much power..8000 hp i think

  • It's direct drive (no transmission, just a reverser), they just slip the clutch and apply more and more pressure to the clutch until it's locked 1:1 about half track..

  • Lol, did they set off a car alarm?

  • I don't remember if they did or not. It's usually only the first one or two runs that trip the alarms, and I don't think these were the first. But I love it when that happens, I get such a laugh out of it.

  • Sweet Video!!!! Unfortunately the NHRA is doing tests to Slow the Nitro powered cars down....if they do this I will lose a lot of respect for Drag Racing, this is one of the only forms of motorsports where the cars haven't gotton slower because of safety/cost cutting, Nitro cars have always been on the edge of insanity, and thats where they should stay!! I'd rather have them race @ 1000 ft forever then get slowed down or restricted, there are better ways to make them safer

  • I hear you on that one. Personally, I'll always be a spectator, but a slightly sadder one if they slow 'em down.

  • I am totally with you XX....I hate it they went to 1000 ft but if they try to slow them down I most likely will stop watching or attending all together....

  • ty for sharing

i like the way you did this.......no annoying announcer or some lame music and no one babbling in the background

yet i do still hear the music of 8000 HP

  • The thing about these drag racers and funny cars, is that I don't see a radiator anywhere on them. How are the engines cooled?

  • Nitro burns and takes alot of the temp out with it. They don't have any cooling system, plus they're ran for no more than 1:30, then they have to be rebuilt after every run.

  • one thing i dont like now is that its only 1000 ft but the good thing is that they dont blow up on every run

  • Weird thing is they're only running 10 mph slower.

  • It's called the law of diminishing returns! :)

  • These cars doesn't make gear shifts?

  • No, it's just a 5-disc centrifugal cluth which transmits the power directly to the rear end (usually 12-12.5"). The clutch gradually slips less and less throughout the run. After the time they mash down the gas (or nitromethane, if you will) pedal the driver has no other task but to keep the car in a straight line, which sometimes can be quite difficult. There is no transmission currently made which can survive the extreme forces of these engines for only four seconds.

  • ok.. then, how these cars have a reverse gear???

  • I love Drag Races! Great video .....Great show!!!!!!!!!

  • You can always tell the folks who are new. Especially down on the fence at the starting line.

When the light turns green for the first pair, all you see is cans dropping all along the fence!

  • i think the funniest thing for a new person to nhra is the people that say i dont need earplugs! and that first pass, they are in awe

  • Ive been to nhra drag races for the last 10 years, I havent worn plugs for the last 5 years, and I;ve stood right next to a header pipe while visiting a friends pits. So it just depends y'know

  • I know Dougie. What a fine man.

I always joke with the NASCAR guys. I tell them if they keep pumping up the horsepower in them there NASCARS, pretty soon they'll have enough horsepower to turn the blower on the Bud King.

Which, by the way, I call the REAL Bud King.

  • even if you care nothing about drag racing, you need to go at least once in your life.

  • they must have bowling balls in their nut sack.

  • LOL People always seem to forget where they are and out of habit set their car alarm! LOL

    GREAT video!!!!!!!!

  • I've seen these cars live many times for a lot of years. It never gets old. Feeling the body rush when a pair of nitro cars go down the track is almost better than sex. I cranked this vid through my surround system and it's the next best thing to being there. It actually shook the floor. Good job.

  • Unique view, great sound. Love it, thanks!

  • Sound is really good, quite a bit of the subaudial bass comes through as well, which is my favorite part.

  • I love the car alarm at the end haha

I go to Columbus every year but they changed it to Norwalk..im glad because its a much bigger/nicer track..

And like alot of people have said this is the best sound quality ive seen on youtube

  • great video & really great audio, 8,000 horsepower is something to see . NHRA rules !

  • Best NHRA sound out of any video I've seen. A+

  • I've been to over 30 NHRA races since I was little and this video captures the sound better than anything I've seen online before. Amazing. This sounds just like it does in real life (except obviously not quite as earth-shattering). All of my videos sound thin and puny but this really captures it!!!!!

  • Glad you like. Every says the same thing, including me. Consider it one of those moments where God blessed the camera for whatever reason. :)

    Keep racin'...

  • LOVE the car alarm at the end! How classic!!

  • OMG how FUCKING awesome is THAT!!!!

  • FUCK NASCAR!!! Roundy round pussies. NHRA is the Shit.

  • Don't hold back, let it out man - tell us how you really feel. Quit beating around the bush!

  • That was kick ass!!!

The Phoenix strip looks pretty cool.

  • Actually, Firebird is indeed very cool. Few things beat sitting about mid-track on the eastern side while facing the mountains on a Friday evening, getting hit with that desert wind while sipping a Coors Light. Good stuff.

  • Yea just what i was thinking the mountains are cool

When you go to Houstons there no mountains just a shit load of chemical plants when heading out there lol!!!

  • I cannot get enough of this video!!!

  • you definately captured the sound on that run. great job

  • i went to that this year i was in the numericraft suit

  • this clip fkn 11 outa 10 for sure

  • Top fuel car alarm testing! excellent footage and sound....favorite for sure!

  • now that is a awesome sound, the best & clearest I have heard. major horsepower !

  • No, it is not the guys that shoot the t-shirts into the stands. I know because they only do that at actual races. This is just the preseason test sessions.

  • Isn't that car alarm you are hearing those golf carts that shoot t-shirts into the stands just honking their horns? Not saying you guys are wrong, it just sounds like those it.

  • No, it is indeed car alarms. You can hear it better in the original vid i got. Each time the big boys go in the morning, the parking lot sings. Happens every time they come to town and it's hilarious. I remember one time in particular, it sounded like 1,000 alarms going off at once. Every single person was doing two things at the same time: laughing at each other and running for the parking lot with their keys. It was the very first pair of top fuelers to go down the strip that did it...

  • HAHAH the cars set off a car alarm!!!! thats funny!!!

  • fuckin idiots putting on there car alarms at the drag races lmao

  • never fails. usually one of my favorite moments of the morning.

  • I know its annoying isn't it

  • V8 nitro rocks!^^

  • IS THAT YOUK @ :41!!? (red sox fan)

  • Nope. That was a guy next to me.

  • Lol @ car alarm

  • ah nothing moer peaceful than top fuel dragsters lol

  • Loving that sound!!!! I could go to a race blindfolded and still be in heaven!

  • its almost like being there except for when they leave the line you can not see the sonic boom

  • awesome

  • would rather be at autocross

  • Typically lame ass Nader comment. Things are always better "over the rainbow" Nader is there to fuck up the system. A pathological meddler in things no one gives a shit about. Just like you.

  • in the beggining it sounded like the mac tools had a mis fire

  • love those engines

  • the true sound of sex on wheels...

  • WHAT A GREAT RUN :)

  • i must remind people... these top fuel dragsters are gnar loud!

  • you got that right, probably the loudest things i ever heard.

  • I agree!! Ive seen the space shuttle take off and almost hit by a freight train! GO NHRA! BRUTAL LOUD!!

  • i was at this race....it was amazing

  • I think the car alarm would go off on mars!! good vid!

  • i was there yesterday and it was great. hillary will set the firebird record with 334 mph and I think 4.53

  • It does sound good.....because the pipes are pointed straight at your head.

    Nice vid.

  • Pretty decent times considering they looked like they shut off at 1000 feet.

And yes, 90% nitro sounds AWESOME!

  • Wow, they actually sound like nitro cars again! Sweet! :D And sure enough, there's always some frickin' dipshit that leaves his car alarm on so it goes off after every pass.

What camcorder was used to tape this? That's some of the best sounding audio I've heard of nitro cars.

  • When the first nitro runs on Friday of the Nationals, 500 car alarms go at once -- hilarious stuff.

I used a 10-megapixel digital Nikon SLR-style cam that shoots still and vid. The sound from the roof of the side tower gives off less low-end but feels fuller. Also the reverb coming off the other tower is just plain wicked. When I uploaded the vid, the quality of the video came down a lot, but the audio is reasonably preserved. The original file is clearer.

  • i have to second that, just nice clear sound mine were pretty bad its all good though i think we're the only ppl hat filmed so far this year anyway nice clip

  • Im just glad my wife wasnt home to hear that blasting out of my logitech 5.1 sorround sound cranked all the way up. Thanks!!!

now I have some pictures I need to put back up on the walls.

  • Nice!

  • Very Cool!!!

many thanks for posting this up.....

Can't to wait till pomona .

  • u bet! Someday I hope to make the trek to Pomona. Maybe for the finals this year...

  • You gotta come out here to Concord, NC.

I've been for both NHRA events at Zmax. And also got to see them run the 4 wide Nitro Funny Cars and Top Fuel Dragsters.

  • Nice Vid!!!

  • Thanks! I wish I had shot more, but didn't have time and had to go. Hopefully can get more up when I go to the CSK Nationals here in late Feb.

  • 90% nitro sounds ten times better han 85.
