I wonder if Tommy, who plays with GnR now, ever stops Axel Rose in mid-tantrum and says anything like: "You know what, you spoiled little LA vag... I was in The Replacements, so quit yer bitchin you Sunset Strippette!"
Squirellbait was from Louisville,Ky they actually came down to Lexington and somebody forgot to promote the show and the whole punk scene was at a House Party band The Misplaced was playing at. Maybe 85-86 or so. We all did Nobody's Heroes into one mike.
With the exception of Paul's out of tune guitar, this about tight as I've heard this band live.
I've always thought Bob guitar sound was the perfect foil to Paul's songwriting talent. It would've been interesting had Bob stayed with the band longer- alcohol, drugs and manic depression just got the better of him. It almost got Paul too. Thankfully, he is still with us.
Oh well, think I'll drink a beer now and raise a toast to Robert Neil Stinson.
This is a great version--they were indeed inconsistent live, so it's amazing to hear them _this early_ sounding almost professional and so passionate.
The Replacements are fast becoming my favourite band!! Energetic, raw, and brilliant! Aw im in love with these guys. Wish I was living in 80s america(I may get a backlash for that on) to listen to these guys and a hold load of 80s alternative bands that have sucked me in. What an incredibly cool scene and im jealous that I wasnt part of it!!
Incredible footage of Minnesota's finest, the Mats in full throttle brain damage mode. Man, Bob could really play for a full on dipso. Westerberg still rocks today, get all his albums now.
Just this summer I've gone and found Westerberg's albums of the past decade (somehow missed them) and am still amazed, fortified. The combo of Stereo/Mono is damn near perfect and Tremble does the old trick: brash and sad, down but never out.
I want to cry because this is so amazing. Why couldn't I have been born about 30 years ago... oh well. At least I can see this. And Bush basically equals Reagan. Aren't I lucky?
Dont know who youre talking about... Im talking about the Replacements. Nirvana where a hopeless excuse for a band, who where not influenced by Paul Westerbergs great skills...then.
I'm not bi polar but my favorite bands in the eighties were the 'mats and grateful dead. Saw Bob in Albany, Let It Be tour. I was kinda
there by mistake, thank God. They were just oozing with f*ck you/rock and roll spirit, switching instruments, playing 1/2 songs...they saved a lot of souls from Bon Jovi and the like. I'm forever grateful.
who cares if it's singing? i love the catastrophic energy. THATS why we love punk. take an elbow, it's all good, just give one

@dner75 I listen to plenty of people in music who CAN sing, even Lou Reed sings better, sorry
